thought he did that well too

but we needed them to reel in bristol city for us
  • Stoke is going to be a key game. They haven´t lost in the league since 10nov.

couldn´t get the game on the tele.

    who was our key player?

    BBC was rating Moo2kil alot
  • positives positives positives, finish those chances and we are there, it would be worse if we weren't creating anything

i'm afraid big chris has to drop down though, it looks like as soon as our players see him the ball is just hoofed

like to see Varney and Gray up front for Stoke

    Offensively good, defensively poor IMO.

    Ditto for Youga.
  • When I saw Dicko go 1 on 1 with their keeper, I really fancied him to score......keeper did well but Dicko telegraphed his intention.

I thought Dicko was a real handful when he was on. Could have made some better choices a couple of times but good explosive movement - defenders don't like playing him, especially when they are tiring.

Gray needs a service but he's got a good enough touch - holds the ball up well and buys time for himself.

If only ZZ realised how much time he had from that Ambrose free kick ........
  • ZZ ran his socks off, Varney looked lively and Paddy was solid - they'd be my three to single out

I think that's fair. Most of our good work seemed to come through Ambrose as well, though i still wish he could get a bit more thrust.
  • Agree about McCarthy - thought he had a decent game.
  • Sam was poor today the rest did well maybe Youga should of done better at the back but good going forward
  • With a bit of luck, Ambrose could - perhaps should(!) - have had a hat trick.

Good intelligent movement, ghosting in on the blindside, assured & composed on the ball.

Nearly everything worthwhile that we created came through Ambrose, whether it was what he did on the ball or simply moving subtly off the ball and pulling defenders out of position creating space for others.

And he did finally score ........Decent performance.

  • And a special mention for Paddy McCarthy.

He does lack pace, as we know - but today he positioned himself well, got in some good 'last man' saving tackles and organised the back four reasonably well.

I thought Youga was great going forward, nice touch on the ball and composed - Tommy Smith was a tricky character and Youga didn't win everything but quickly recovered his positioning bar a couple of times. The winger wouldn't be going his job if he didn't beat his man sometimes.
  • Personally thats the best ive seen both Magic and Paddy play.

Gray touch and strength reminded me of Andy Hunt - hopefully thats not me being too optimistic!

Ambrose was a constant threat and on another day as others had mentioned he would have had at least a brace....

The one weakness i can see which we seem to be overlooking is the lack of quality out wide, we work the ball well at times but the final ball from wide areas 99% of the time is awful!

If we can work on the final ball we're there - we are stronger as a unit and seem to be starting to play a bit - onwards and upwards lads!
  • An interesting point:

Today we played one of the few teams above us in the table and one of the promotion favourites.

Rose tinted glasses aside, I thought for most of the match we looked like the genuine promotion contenders and Watford often second best. It was only the lack of enough decent balls into the box and a cutting edge that denied us victory today. But we still created a myriad of chances.

If we get that right, I feel there will be very few teams who'll relish playing us.

How's that for glass half full, OoAah....? :o)
  • I would have taken a draw before th game but can't help feeling disappointed we didn't nick all three.

We played well though away at a team who will be there or therebouts. On another day Ambrose , Dicko and Sam would have put their chances away.

Still in the play off zone onwards and upwards to the automatic places.

We need to beat Stoke and Palarse at The Valley.
  • I still can't believe that we haven't beaten Watford on the past 3 occasions we have met. They had a few injuries that shook 'em up, but before that, they still didn't look anything special in the slightest.

Holland covered both the defensive & attacking aspects of the midfield today, very well! I though ZZ looked tired & out of it today. Sloppy in the tackle, & reactions a half second behind everyone else at points.

Paddy had a very good game, & I was very surprised at the acuracy of his long & crossfield passing! Ambrose has to be the most frustrating. You can see the quality in some of the things he does or attempts, but lacks the conviction, or concentration to fully pull them off. I know, he got the goal today, but to be honest, should have buried at least 2 more, before the keeper finally, let him get his end away.

Varney reminds me very much of Garry Nelson. Not exactly prolific, but works his arse off to try & create chances & bring others into the game. A hard working performance, & a true team player. I think he will become someone very important for us over the next few seasons!

Gray looked as though he had a bit more quality than Big Chris when he came on. Thats not to say the big fella lacked endeavour today, but Gray might have just that bit more to his game. Looks like he will link the midfield & the strikers nicely!

Overall, a decent performace in crappy conditions. We should have caned Watford today, but I'll take the point as we are still in there.

18 games to go, but such is the nature of this league, I've still no fecking idea how its going to go by the time we reach the end. I mean, I wouldn't rule out the shisters of selhurstschwitz for an automatic promotion spot, with the form they are in at the moment!

I agree with Oggy Red. We looked the promotion contenders today. A bit more of a cutting edge, & we will definitely be in the mix!
  • Watched the game on TV & thought our best 2 players were Ambrose & Paddy, with ZZ also putting in a decent shift. We just didn't look like scoring though did we? Even when Dicko was clean through it was obvious he wasn't going to score. Hopefully Andy Gray is the missing piece that we have been looking for.
  • Stefco - good, thoughtful summing up.
  • [cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]When I saw Dicko go 1 on 1 with their keeper, I really fancied him to score......keeper did well but Dicko telegraphed his intention.

Dicko was (justifiably) half-expecting to be flagged offside - by the time he realised he was clear, the momentum had gone. There's inexperience for you. Ouch...

Yeah, we should have won it, especially since their goal seemed to come in the 20 seconds we left the defence wide open. But Watford are a tight, tidy, if unexciting side, and we outplayed them in the second half and equalled them in the first half. Varney and Iwelumo didn't seem to work well together today and I thought Ambrose had a great game (seriously - he's working his arse off), and as mentioned earlier, Moo2kill looked lethal on the wing attacking - defending was a different matter!

A bit frustrating to draw, but with Gray on, and Dickson bounding about, and Ambrose looking confident, there's signs of the future there.
