He's impressed the two times i've seen him now and the commentater's seemed impressed on the radio coverage. Seems like we've got a bit of a gem there. Let's hope he continues to progress.
things is Pards only put him in in the side because we were short of LB's. Seems like he really didn't fancy him before that. So it makes me wonder how many of these we have let slip thru our hands. Shittu for one springs to mind......
He was class again tonight, indeed I would go as far as to say Premiership class. Something about his play on the ball reminded me of Minto. He looks balanced and assured. Watching him, it's hard to understand how he could have been overlooked for so long. It may not be the managers fault though, he may just have got his act together over recent months.
Living where I do, I don't get a chance to watch the reserves. Perhaps those on here who do can give their view about how he seemed when he played for the reserves.
With Youga and Basey there, will Thatcher get a new contract?
Surely we'll have powelly on the training pitch but must squads don't accommodate more than 4 fullbacks (even though we actually have 5 Left Backs currently!)
In fairness to the club, I have watched Youga quite a few times in the reserves since he joined us and although he always looked capable, especially going forward he made some howlers at the back with quite a few reckless challenges thrown in for good measure.
But bearing in mind he was only 19 I think, when he joined us, hopefully he's learned from his loan experiences, (after all that's what it's there for) and can continue to be the outstanding player for us that he has been over the last few weeks.

It was only last month that he got sent off twice in 2 games for Scunthorpe so maybe he hasn't eradicated that from his game just yet.
trouble is as people have said he's in prime position as out of contract in the summer. If he continues in this vein, the premiership boys will come calling and we get nowt.
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]All the more reason to get him on a new contract now ...... while he still thinks Charlton are a BIG club,
(well compared to Scunthorpe, anyway)
My client and I really appreciate being given the chance by Charlton and we are very excited at the prospect of signing a long term deal now that it looks as though we are able to repay your faith in Kelly.
We expect a fair contract, which will involve a salary increase and certain benefits but are completely committed to the club, returning to the Premiership and playing for Charlton at the highest level.
I'm awaiting a quote in The Sun anyday now from Harry Redknapp saying what an admirer he is, how Youga is a quality player etc. in the same, no so subtle way, he taps up about 50 players a season...........

And his agent will say.............

And Youga will say:
"But I really miss Scunthorpe. Scunny is where all my friends are & Scunny is where I want to play football ......"
Signs for Scunny on a Bosman. Then Chelsea sign him for obscene millions from Scunthorpe next January window.
It's football. ;o)

not that many I'd say which is why people still go back to Shittu and even Primus who played for us 15 years ago.
Danny Haynes is the only recent one I can think of but I read that Curbs is looking to buy him at West Ham.
Quiz Question: Which Charlton manager let Danny Haynes go on a free to Ipswich

Reported that we had agreed a fee with Scunny, but his agent told him not to sign and to hold out till the end of the season when he'll be on a free.

Agree with the last point.
And with Youga and Basey now fit, will we ever see the Chrissy Powell leap ever again ???

Curbs was more strategic than we thought then. Clearly he had greater faith in Ipswich's coaching set up than ours......:o)
