Only 1 player coming in !!!!!

edited January 2008 in General Charlton
According to Pardew. Murray get your money as its your board that made the cock ups that led to this. Reg finally today admitted to it. One playing coming in Reg has got it right in his programme notes today fate may get us in the Premiership. We are relying on fate !!!!

  • What if it was Bent on loan? ;)
  • It's been obvious for some time that this team / squad is just not good enough to get promoted this year. Anybody that says otherwise is deluding themselves. I think we have to just accept that & hope that by next season we have got it sorted out. It would be a waste of money that we don't have to try & improve this squad enough to challenge for promotion this year. I suspect we are stretching our finances even to bring one player in.
  • does it actually expressly say we are only making one signing?

or could it be hinting that we've got one concrete one in the pipeline?
  • The signings in the summer have not worked out and or were not the right players, we have needed a midfield for what 3/4 seasons and none of our managers are addressing it.
  • Very dissappointed with Varney and McCloud. Lost Faith in Alan P
  • Varney and McLeod have not exactly been given much of a chance though have they? Neither has has a decent run in the starting XI.
  • the same varney that looked bright today in his hour or so and SCORED?

    what planet are you on?
  • Strangley Varney only looks good when he comes on as a sub.

And it was Murray's money and his board that:
    1. Financed the return the Valley
    2. Built the East Stand
    3. Built the West Stand
    4. Redeveloped the Covered End
    5. In seasons prior to Wembley, kept faith with Curbishley when people were moaning about him
    6. Played a vital role in CAFC spending 8 of the last 9 seasons in the Premier League.
OY MURRAY, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!
  • No way should Murray take the blame IMO. He has put money into the club and we spent far more than most teams in the Championship could ever do. You can't really criticise him for putting faith in a well respected manager when making decisions on signings.

    Excellent post.
  • The fans plus players sold that returned as to The Valley just.

East, West and North stand out of Premiership T.V money.

Kept faith with Curbishley did not have much choice prior to Wembley and did he in the end oh really at the end of Curbishleys reign ?

The likes of Jensen, Jason Euell, Kinsellas, Parkers, di canios all got on the cheap kept us in the Premiership purchased by Curbishley out of tv money.

And what a great decision was to appoint Dowie when the majority of fans did not want him. The fans in fact stayed loyal to Dowie but was axed by the board.
  • Steady guys.

First and foremost, without Americans, Thai ex-Prime ministers, Russian oil money, etc., you have to run a club like Charlton on business lines.

More or less, season after season as they grew the club in size and stature, Murray & co have got it right.
Last season, as Murray has already admitted, they didn't.
And this season we're paying the price for that.

TV money Prem or parachute, greases the wheels but in truth barely keeps the club solvent.
I think you'll find ground development was paid for by loans, repayments underwritten by TV money.

Murray knows that it would be easy to just write cheques for players with borrowed money - but also knows as last season proved, that's no guarantee of success. Just look at Leeds, Sheff W, Leicester, Nottm F, Coventry, QPR & others who did spend beyond their means.

I believe Murray is savvy enough not to prejudice the future of the club for the sake of trying to buy instant success.
Whatever disappointed and frustrated supporters think.
  • great decision to axe dowie????? what exactly did it achieve, certainly not premiership survival.
  • Slagging off Richard Murray is well out of order IMO. If it wasn't for him, and Roger Alwen before him, then the only reason you'd now be going to Floyd Road would be to do your shopping at a new Tesco superstore.

    Get real.

When are people going to get this through their heads. Dowie's sacking was not connected to on the field results.
He would have gone even if we'd been mid-table.
  • What I am saying is the mess we are in resulted from not paying out for a decent manager when Curbishley left. Went for the cheap option which has now cost US big time.
  • rubbish

    Oooiiiiihhh!
  • Please tell us the reason/s why Dowie was sacked then JimmyMelrose Reg said that they was going to say at the end of last season why- nothing so far. Have we payed off 3.5 half years contract to Dowie ? Paid Les Reed off ? Paid Curbisbley off ?

    Great financial management there ?

  • not debating that.. just saying it was hardly some inspired deicsion at the time or in retrospect, as for the real reasons will we really ever know.

How do you define a decent manager? You can only choose from the people who apply for the job.
  • nothing to do with fights or motorways, they bottled it,and got fucking les reed in,even worse than dowie.
  • [cite]Posted By: pete_tong1[/cite]Please tell us the reason/s why Dowie was sacked then JimmyMelrose

    We've been over this before:

    1. Inviting his brother to give team talks, therefore sidelining Les Reed.
    2. Taking players for runs before games and losing them so that they have to hitchhike to the match on a motorway.
    3. Disappearing to his home when playing away up north.

Do you not consider these worthy of a sacking?
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]nothing to do with fights or motorways, they bottled it,and got fucking les reed in,even worse than dowie.[/quote]

You must have been at the board meeting where they discussed it, right?
  • yep i was there stu.
  • Should of got Mills to head hunt a new a top notch manager :-)

'nothing to do with fights or motorways, they bottled it and got fucking les reed in , even worse than dowie'.
Dont buy that Nolly Reg said they were going to tell us the real reason why he left as Jimmy Melrose says its nothing to with results on the pitch. Have we paid Dowies contract up are we still paying his wages, How much was Curbs payed off and Les Reed anyone know. Henry ?
  • gotta stick with what we got now.long way to go thankfully,we can only inprove

Who was it who spread the Dowie 'charlie' rumour and abuse of office staff?

Basically, he was done on 3 counts.

    1) Behaviour
    2) Refusal to co-operate with management team
    3) The fact that he lied to Jordan to get the Charlton job and with the impending court case, the board didn't wish to be associated.
