no i was thinking that about blackpool. i looked up the trains yesterday and looks like there is engineering works on the saturday/sunday so the train involves 2 or 3 changes. feck that.
[cite]Posted By: Solidgone[/cite]Hey Weegie - that will be great timing coming up on the train from Gatwick with the Nigels!
Except I've just checked and the flight is a bit later than I thought - not due to arrive till 19.10, so I'm going to have to pay £60 for the two of us to change it. B*ll*cks.
[cite]Posted By: Weegie Addick[/cite]Sat or Sun lunchtime would have made a lot more sense to me.
I think if the choice was made to supporters between a Friday night, or a Sunday lunchtime, the vast majority would prefer the Friday night. In my opinion.
Think you've missed the point, AFKA - I meant on safety grounds rather than supporters preference...
I don't normally book flights this far in advance in case of changes, but due to a BA systems cock-up we ended up with both BA and Easyjet flights for this weekend, so I had to change the BA ones yesterday (before the day of travel). I knew we were efeinitely coming to Palace so moved it to then. I'm already well out of pocket on this one.

not to mention then moving the tuesday game to a wednesday and disrupting everyone else.
Unusually the only scheduled Sunday match that day is the Manc derby which I believe is on the anniversary of the Munich Air disaster.
Perhaps the Premier League and the FA have determined that no other matches can clash with this as a mark of respect? Mind you I haven't checked all of the football schedule for that day, so that might not be correct.
Plus nobody has mentioned the fact that the hamsters entertain Birmingham on the Saturday, which might also have had a bearing on the move of the date.

From what i understand, the police don't want it on a Saturday as it runs the higher risk of other clubs getting involved. They'll probably use the argument of a group of Millwall turning up in the London Bridge area, like earlier in the season, as an example. Alienating it to a Friday or Sunday gives them just Charlton and Palace groups to be concerned about.
So the choice is between a Friday night, or an early Sunday one. From a playing point of view, the Sunday one would mean we would move our following midweek game back to Wednesday, and give us less time to prepare for Watford on the Saturday.
And from a supporters point of view, i would prefer a friday night over a sunday lunchtime every time.
