If you'd employed a UK based person to do the techie stuff we'd be able to do both and the spell cheque would work but you outsourced to some third world country where they speak French : -) *dugs for cover*
the problem with marches of any kind nowadays is they tend to get hijacked by more extreme elements, whether the original motive is sincere or not. The political parties are also very wary on topics like this one as they tend to get hijacked by the far right, and they don't want to alienate any of their support. I believe everyone without exception should be allowed to express their political views, however this is a football/Charlton forum mainly with non related stuff tending to avoid politics so I guess we should respect that.

[cite]Posted By: PassItToLeaburn[/cite]Nice post, T.
As for the March, yeah, it's probably racist, this probably isn't the best place to advertise it but surely the best response would have been to have just not responded? The thread would have died without a trace. Nothing would have sent a clearer message than that.
Perhaps but I think that rather than banning or ignoring racists it is better to dismantle their very weak arguements as T and others have.
Totally agree. When I was at College in the late Seventies the NF were very active. I belonged to anti racists groups but I remember a petition which was raised to try and stop the NF from addressing students. I refused to sign it and was shunned by many in the anti racist community for so doing. My argument was exactly the one you have used.
Actually as I've got older I have become less tolerant to different views resorting to the "shut up and go away tactics". On reflection your approach is the best Henry. I'd actually like to see some actual argument to dismantle though rather than a load of meaningless slogans cobbled toegther to appeal to the lowest common denominator. So come on The Organiser, how about it?
My gut instincts generally are to deny that kind of filth a platform, but, yeah, my head says the best way to dismantle their views is through intelligent and honest argument - because it never stands up to any kind of scrutiny.
As an aside, since a few people on here remember that time, a fella I know has been trying to compile memories of the New Cross/ Lewisham riot of 1977, when the NF tried to march through the area. It's a real eye-opener for anyone (like me) who doesn't remember that time - especially seeing the photos of huge crowds outside where The Venue is now.
I wouldn't suggest that ignoring racism is always the way to go but in this instance it was one post, which was inappropriate more than racist, and may have carried racist undertones.

brought back a few memories of those days. In terms of how things have changed the far right could actually get numbers on the street and now they can't. By the same score you'd never get a turnout like that from the anti-nazis anymore. Maybe both are signs of better times, less unemplyment and more tolerance. I hope we never have to do again what we did then.
Woolwich was always a very radical and leftie area (First Labour MP in England). My dad was very active in the 50s and tells the story of when Oswald Mosely came to Woolwich. Everywhere else his meetings had been stopped before he had even arrived but not at Beresford Square. He set up, no one touched him and then just when he was about to talk all hell broke lose. The left had been waiting for the fascists to show themselves so a full and frank exchange of views could take place "on the cobbles" as they said in the "good" old days.
[cite]Posted By: PassItToLeaburn[/cite]I wouldn't suggest that ignoring racism is always the way to go but in this instance it was one post, which was inappropriate more than racist, and may have carried racist undertones.
It didn't need deconstructing, just ignoring.
best summary of the lot, and a nice one to leave it on.
Everyone knows about it now, those who want to attend can, and those against it have raised their view. If you want to continue debating this, please do it elsewhere.
We may be pussy footing and skirting around the issue, but i'd rather that and have a happy ship.
CunningStunt - Where do I start? I honestly can't understand your narrow minded attitude. Racist? LMFAO, my best mate at work is Nigerian! Marching cos im proud of being English is Racist? It's that attitude from our own that stops people saying how they feel about certin issues in this Country! Say something that the PC lot don't like and your a racist! I will say it again, why were BLACK people on the last march if it is racist? You mention the forces? All the speakers at the last march were ex forces mate! I could not give a monkeys about immigrants in this Country being proud of their country of Birth, I just don't like some of them preaching hatred against my Country on my streets! I don't see people who emigrate from England doing this in their new home, I don't see them blowing people up. I don't see them openly admit they want to live under Sharia law here! I could go on! I don't see their "leaders" getting the hump about christian values and celebrations cos it might offend them! If my countrymen did go abroad and do that they deserve everying they get!!
Inspector: I would not know how to find a Daggenham board let alone want to post on it, know it all. Check the Ip's then you can apologise! I'll meet you at Ninnian Park for a beer if you like? Will that prove im Charlton to you?? And you say marching around Westminster is not much of a celebration? Do you know how hard it it to arrange a march when your white, English? You would not believe how much the OB have decided what can and can't be done! No megaphones allowed either! But if your a muslim, march where you want and you can have your megaphone Abu! Double standards again!
Leroy, thanks for a bit of honesty but if this does get taken over by the BNP, national Front etc you will see me and many others walk away!
Carter, thank you but if like you say it does turn out to be an extremist show I won't eat my words and Im not sure what will come my way?? I have done what I believe in. I'll be one thing...... GUTTED that it will have been hijaked!!
Millaphile, I agree - immagration can be a very positive thing, BUT this is uncontrolled immagration at levels never seen before. Is it right that a white Brit should be a "minority" is his town and Country of Birth? It will only get worse. the education system can't cope, the NHS are struggling. there are not enough houses etc etc! this is nthing to do with race. It's common sense and my fear for where it will end up.
Blackforest:
Organised purely by footie lads (mainly pompey & spurs), mainly through word of mouth and meaages on sites (hence mine). Who jumps on the bandwagon after can not be helped! This has been organised with honest, non racial intentions. you quoted a NF site that said: Are some of the Bulldogs still planning to attend? As I would still like to meet some of the younger NF lads even if this isn't the time to push the politics through." the last 11 words are the bit to take in as obviously the message has been put out that this is not a political march! i'll send you a message about why I feel the way i do! Otherwise everyone will be replying, cos what i think is not important to others! I know what i think and will be there. It was an advert to reach out to people who feel the same! If you don't, fair enough!
This is probably pissing everyone off now so I won't post on this subject anymore! I have my views, you have yours but it was only an advertisment of a march for our flag. It saddens me that this can whip up such narrow minded views and the usual "must be racist" comments! Byt hey ho!
"As I would still like to meet some of the younger NF lads even if this isn't the time to push the politics through."
the last 11 words are the bit to take in as obviously the message has been put out that this is not a political march!"
You don't think that the NF etc are going to be overtly persuading people to join them do you? Or just that they'll tag along, hand out some literature, collect a few names/addresses and ally themselves to something that suits their objectives and then recruit that way?
This is now your third/fourth post, yet you still haven't offered a definition of "Englishness"? Other than to resort to rhetoric such as "BUT this is uncontrolled immagration at levels never seen before Is it right that a white Brit should be a "minority" is his town and Country of Birth?" (since when? and where? Immigration is not uncontrolled and they form a very small percentage of the country and all this stuff about immigrants getting served before us is a myth, perpetuated by those with an axe to grind). Points like that are neither substantive or even vaguely explanatory, just pure rhetorical nonsense. Equally your point about not being allowed megaphones, while Islamic marches have them, hmmm, again is that so, you do have proof I trust, or is it just "I'm a victim" hearsay?
You are doing a very poor job of explaining what this march is about, other than I suspect an opportunity for a group of Daily Mail type readers to get together to convince themselves that things are really much worse than they really are. At its worst this march could have more sinister motives, as there doesn't appear to be a website I can't tell, but given that the NF/BNP seem to be supportative, I'd suggest that you are naive in what you are trying to achieve, and the way you are going about it.
"Immigration is not uncontrolled" - You are joking mate? Even the gorvernment admit they do not have a clue who or how many immigrants, legal or illegal are in this Country. They can be a great benefit but many them are not! "and all this stuff about immigrants getting served before us is a myth," - So thats a fact is it, cos you said it? You blame people for believeing the papers and then come out with that, with nothing to back it up! having worked in Housing & local gov I would beg to differ, but you said it and im apparently racist, so that will make you right to most people. the megaphones, again you take the high ground. The organiser went to a great deal of effort to get the licence for this march, so when he says he was not allowed one I believe him. And being at the last march and seeing the speakers have to shout to be heard backs it up for me! I presume you are someone who has not been effected my multiculturalsim (sp) and only sees the rosy side of it all. Maybe it's wrong for me to expect you to open your eyes to other peoples experiences, where it is not so nice. You try working in a factory as a minority white man, just for a week and I reckon your views may just change a bit! I see my culture as being a place where school kids learn about our history, not every other religions. Where I can live alongside people who don't detest me and my way of life and preach murder to those who don't follow their intolerant idealism! Where anyone can fly the flag of St George without it offending the increasing minorities, or our own do-gooders Where ALL racist attacks are treated and reported the same! Where terrorists do NOT have rights and potential ones can be held for as long as need be! Where illegal immigrants are sent packing, ecspecailly when they commit a crime. We have enough of our own scum doing that, without outside problems! Where free speech is for everyone, not just Muslim preachers of hate! Where kids can sing Bah Bah Black sheep at school. Where are troops are looked after and not treated like scum. Where we are not part of the pathetic human rights act. I could go on. Needless to say all of the above is a myth!?! And this is not a rant against immigrants etc! It's not their fault they want to better themselves. It's the spineless government and the do-gooders who let them get away with it. March for our flag is just a name given that would catch on but that's why ill be there, to let the government know that we won't all lie down and let this Country slowly die!
To think that a march to celebrate our flag has turned out to be about bombers, Muslim preachers of hate, immigration and the white man being in a minority.
I really had no idea that this discussion would go this way. I mean, the march isn't racist or run by far right people so why should it. There are no hidden agendas. We've been told just a few football fans getting together so who would suspect that this would happen
And people of all colours and faiths are welcome. It said so in the first post do it must be true.
I'm sure the march will go off peacefully. The British police are the best in the world as we all know and will have no trouble from these friendly people who will not be preaching hate. All 50 of them.
I presume you are someone who has not been effected my multiculturalsim (sp) and only sees the rosy side of it all. Where to start...
Instead of marching get some help for your paranoia. You've just trotted out a dozen or more myths, you ask that I provide some proof that they are myths, yet you offer zero evidence yourself that they aren't. Do you understand the hypocrisy in this? For example you have provided no evidence that school children learn about other cultures and history at the total expense of their own and so on, neither are our troops treated like "scum", and ironically the human rights act you feign to protest about is allowing you to participate in this march. This looks like a collection of talking points for middle aged women to chew over while falling into the nostalgia trap - how things were always better in their day, your manufactured imbecilic rage is nothing more than I suspect a knee-jerk reaction to seeing people with the same opportunity as yourself do better, naturally rather than analyse this and conclude that they have worked hard you put it down to a conspiracy theory. If only the government would get tough on these hard working immigrants, eh!
In previous posts you've stressed that this march is for all - including immigrants, but eventually you've perhaps revealed a bit too much about your motives - this looks like one long diatribe against immigration. And you still haven't given me any indication of what you mean by "Englishness", perhaps you could also define what is so bad about multi-culturalism while you are at it? Does this mean that being exposed to different cultures is inherently wrong? Will you give up wearing clothes made in Asia, or sell your German made car, do you make a point of always taking your holidays in the UK, buying films, music and books made by British filmakers, musicians and authors? Do you consume only authentic English cuisine and drink only English beer?
BFR, you ask what is this Englishness? For me it is loving the country, its heritage, culture, language and customs while still be aware that there are other cultures and traditions, like mine some good, some bad. What does he know of England who only England knows?
Regretably I think for people like the Organisor is not about loving anything English but about hating and fearing something or someone else. Doesn't matter what it is he hates and fears as that will change with the wind. Just as long as there is something to use up all that bile on.
No point asking about how he defines Englishness as he can't. He can only say what it is not, only what he hates. He can't tell you if he prefers Orwell to Waugh or Hockney to Blake or Vaughen-Williams to Britton or anyone else you care to name as it has no meaning to him.
I've just come back from visiting the Imperial War Museum. There on levels two and three is the Holocaust exhibition. Instead of trumpetting this silly misguided march, people like The Organiser should pay the museum a visit to see what extreme nationalism combined with scapegoating does to human beings. Then resolve to work with all men and women of good will to ensure that whilst extreme hatred of all kinds is rightly condemned bridges are built not burned in misguided jingoism of the worst kind. I don't think I want to say any more really.
This thread is absolute genius. It's gone from a march for English identity where everyone is welcome to attend to a march about some right wing anti imigration, anti islam agenda, which apparently isn't racist because Black people are attending!
Give me an Intelgent Somali Muslim over this knuckle dragging 'Englishman' any day
