  • Nigeria's manager certainly thought so.

I blame Pards for letting him play for his country!
Otherwise nobody would ever have heard of him.

    Pardews from Nigeria. Shocking!!
  • [cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]how feck can that happen why spend thetime developing him as a youth player if he needed a work permit, there's no guarantee you are going to get one, seems a bit of a waste of money, are we not entitled to compensation a la Bostock if he goes elsewhere.

IF he's gone to another Club in the UK then we are surely entitled to compensation. If he's gone to a Club in Europe then I don't know how we stand.
  • yeah ive seen danny play a couple of times he looks very good for his age i think we will see a bit of him in our reserves this season.

    not if he's gone you won't !!!
[cite]Posted By: Mr-Invisible[/cite]from the horses mouth Henry.....permit maybe an issue but got better offer elsewhere

believe you, why would you make it up, but where exactly ??
  • Surely he can't leave for nothing?
  • [cite]Posted By: Vincenzo[/cite]Surely he can't leave for nothing?

I think we are due "development compensation" if he leaves, but let's wait for him to go. The story was that he was going to be farmed out overseas somewhere to get his work permit, while others are saying he's off permanently, all in all a bit confusing...
  • If he's young and a good prospect for the future but needs to get a work permit, why would we let him go?
Surely we'd loan him to somewhere like Greece, Belgium etc similar to what Man Utd do. They bought the Angolan striker Manucho and loaned him straight out to Panathinaikos til he could get a permit and now they're applying for one. I find it weird we'd just let Uchechi go.
  • This is a real shame as he looked very promising. Could the tournament football and rave reviews for Nigeria have turned his head (or some scum-bag agent's?). Hopefully he really is just developing overseas as a Charlton asset; as stated, all very confusing.
  • don't think we are talking about lettting him go but about him walking of his own accord and joining another Club. Cause of his age he is not under contract and so may have done a 'Bostock'.

Bostock was 15 though when he played for Palace and didn't signed a pro contract when he turned 16. Therefore he could join Spurs for a tribunal fee. If i'm not mistaken Uchechi is 17-18 so would surely have had some form of pro contract.

It maybe that he can't have a pro contract without a work permit. I'm not sure about how this all stands other than the club are very aware of it and have been for many, many months.

No idea if things have changed in the past few days but we shall see.

Your'e right, older than I thought. Born 14.09.1989, so currently 18. Maybe as Henry says without a work permit he can't sign a contract. If so how do we stand re cpompensation.
  • Well that puts an english club out of the frame.
  • He's still on the OS. It'd be another blow to the academy if another decent product fails to make the first team.

True, especially with so few making their debuts last season : - )

Uchechi is a special case because of his status in the UK so not really comparable to other youth team players who've left (if he even has) without playing.
  • Well if you took the last 3 games of last season, after the game was up, out of the equation and the haul's not great. Take it over four years and it's really low, I guess the point was that it'd be a genuine shame to lose one of the very rare ones with potential, whatever the circumstances.

Hopefully there'll be some kind of appeal process - believe exceptions were made for Bangura and his appearances at U23 may help in making the case for him as a special talent.
  • Exactly how good is this Uchechi? Because he's 19 next month and i don't think he's even been a sub for the 1st team, which in view of last years problems doesn't say much for him.
I'm not knocking the kid, just thinking that most good young talents have normally broken through by now.

But sounds like we don't have a work permit for him, so guess that means he couldn't play for the first team?
  • He can't play for the first team. To do so, he would have to go abroad for one or two years to get the valid passport.

All seems a lot of hassle to me.

If he has jumped ship though, all i can say is Uchechi Barstard !!

    spot on
  • He's done well for the u18s and reserves when he's played.

Maybe we were going to give him a pro contract, but he could never get a new work permit?

Should all be revealed in the next few weeks.
  • just seen the thing about him being called up to the nigeria squad on the os so I guess that means he's still with us right now . Anyone got any more news on it ? would be a shame to see him go
