It's the consequence of an EU ruling to bring in more competition over the rights and stops one broadcaster simply outbidding the others and monopolising coverage. The downside is that if another sat TV broadcaster wins the rights to show some of the games that viewers have to take out two subscriptions. Had the BBC or ITV won the rights then it would effectively be free to air....
Quite right BFR......Scandalous if Sky have 5 out of the 6 packages how is that supposed to break the monopoly......
I am biased working for the bbc , but christ how is this in the national interest, being the national game!....
Bugger what the EEC state, this along with other national crown jewels should be protected, The logic to this is riduculous the national game should be seen by all who have/pay a tv licence end of.,
This is a personnel view I am afraid, not policy..... but shared by many members off staff.
I have Setanta and like it, but it has not have got the frills of Sky. Its basic but does what it has to, also the Blue Square games are fun to whatch.

it got nothing to do with our FA though. the rights to the game is all the Khazaks or whoever we are playing so they sell to whoever theyy like. and sultan pay big bucks for it. pisses me off no end but it's out the FA's hands other than they bid for the tv rights
Setanta are being given as much help as they can by the powers that be. Sky don't want them to go under either as the EU will clamp down on them further. Ofcom release a new consultation/remedies document re pay TV in the next couple of weeks. Likely to mean Sky will be forced to resell prime stuff at wholesale prices but won't be in place for a long time as Sky will no doubt appeal it as much as they can. Listed sports events are being looked at by the government at the moment and more may be added to the list.
All England games should be on ITV (or better) BBC1 or 2. It should be protected like Wimbledon and the Gran National are and like test matches used to be!!!Isn't anything sacred anymore or just does it boil down to getting the most amount of money for the rights??? Silly question really!

Sky who are Australian owned aren't foreign in the weird world of DFT
Sky are not Australian-owned. News Corp is no longer listed in Australia, only in New York. Not only that but as far as officialdom goes Mr. Rupert Murdoch is no longer Australian either. He renounced his Australian citizenship in order to gain US citizenship so he could enter the US TV market. BSkyB is therefore primarily an American firm.
www.oleolefootball.com is not a bad option and cost £7.99 per year. You can watch every Premiership, Scottish, International and almost any European league game live if your broadband is halfway decent.
That looks decent C4fcdenmark, couple of questions for you- Is it a reputable outfit? How likely are the powers that be likely to kick down your door at 4am claiming you are watching an illegal feed and bang you up for 10 years? I'd love to get it because it looks a fantastic deal.
Hate Setanta and the pillocks who sold them the rights to show the England games...... but just heard that Setanta might be going bust as they can't even pay for current deals....
when are some of you going to get it into your heads. IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF OUR FA THAT SETANTA GET THE AWAY GAMES
The football association that own the rights of the game, for example KHAZAKSTAN recently, put the rights up for sale and Sultana went in bidding stuipid money , blowing everyone else out the water in the meantime including the FA,thinking all us gullible English would swarm in our millions to their channel. Thankfully, and rightly so, us English are also tight bastards and said botox to that we ain't paying MORE money for a cack tv station to watch one poxy game every 4 months.
Hence Sultana are fooked and will go out of business anytime soon and I for one will do a little jig of delight.
Don't subscribe to Sultana as I am a tight git, though I won't be doing any jigs as some good people that I know will be losing their jobs due to the pillocks in charge.

It provides links to a number of different providers, some of which are more or less legal, such as TVU (probably OK), JustinTV - less so. You could probably find them all yourself on the web, but its nice that they are all listed on the day's links.
I live abroad, so never really considered the implications of being visited by someone at 4am for watching watching something illegal. All I can say is that I have used it for over 2 years with no problems...

Murdoch wins again!
Yeah no fair do's that probably a bit OTT but you know what I mean. Don't want anyone losing jobs BUT
As Ledge said Setanta have ballsed it up by offering silly money that they can't afford. I read they need 1.9 million subscribers, but only have 1.2 million. So they're 700k people paying a tenner a month down and that's a massive shortfall.
Me personally i don't mind the channel and i subscribed. You get England games, FA Cup games, lots of European football, a lot of boxing and the UFC. For me it was great.
i get setanta free because im on virgin. when sky and virgin fell out and they took away sky sports news/sky one/sky news, virgin placated all sky sports providers with free setanta. So who pays that subscription on my behalf - virgin or setanta?

Peoples jobs, etc.
We know enough about that..........
Sky who are Australian owned aren't foreign in the weird world of DFT
So lets just force the rest of the world to do what we want so it suits us?

I can't do the link thingy...

Hate Murdoch having the monopoly but facts are that he has cornered the market. Sultana was always going to fail and Sky knew it!

Thanks C4fc ;o)
