or whatever its called...has anybody on here watched one of their games yet ?...i haven't...i still get sky sports but cant see the point of adding the other lot as well, particularly if they're not showing our matches...
I got it the other day. I like Monday night football and seemed to be missing some good games like Spurs/Villa.
Tonight had a classic. Touquay came back from 3 nil down to Oxford to draw 3-3.
Also I like to watch the last round of the US PGA on a Sunday evening.
I used to pay £50 for Prem + so £10 per month seems ok to me.
"Forgot" to pay my creditcard last month, so my Direct Debit with Setanta was cancelled. Phoned them this morning to have ir reconnected and "Mohammad" (the operator) said that as "its a genuine mistake" he wont charge me the £12:99 reconnection fee, AND,if I don't mind, could he put me on a special offer; pay £7:50 per.month instead of £10:99 for the next 6 months ! Touch !!

That's a result and quite surprising because by all account the Setanta 'Customer Service' is appalling - good luck if you ever try to cancel!
I can never understand why the FA allowed a foreign TV company to get our games, why should England fans who already pay for Sky have to pay again to some Mickey Mouse foreign outfit?
Well the big idea was to introduce competition, sharing the matches between multiple broadcasters, rather than one having a monopoly and charging the earth. So Sky have half the game and Setanta half, yet I've not seen my Sky Sport subscription go down in price, so that plan worked well didn't it!
All that happened was it started a bidding war, so Sky can rightfully claim they paid more to get less and are just passing those costs on.
I've got it on special for £6 a month for the last 6 months, but when I tried to get the deal again this month for an additional 3 months, they would only offer it for £10.99 for a 12 month contract. So I have cancelled it, as I was only watching the occasional game on it, and the UFC which is shown exclusively.
I quite like it actually, not as good as Sky, but 100 times better than ITV (then again CAFCTV is probably better than ITV !)
Anyone seen the Blue Square games where they interview the manager in the dressing room and then get him to read out the team next to a tactics board....can you imagine that in the prem !.
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]I get it free with my othrewise useless Virgin package. It's OK but nothing special. A bit too much like ITV for my liking.
Not quite like ITV. At least on Setanta they stay with the action, rather than going to a commercial break during play and missing the only goal of the game.

I want to be able to watch any game that interests me, and to be able to do that you have to have both sky and setanta, which means more money. introducing competition only helps people who want to be able to watch live football and arent bothered about specific games.
also, setanta's news channel display looks like a five year old was asked to copy sky sports news.
Football Matters gets a mention on the guardian football weekly podcast every now and then but i've not seen it. is it any good?
I like Setanta coverage, McManaman is a good pundit.

Dear oh dear
that's what I thought rothko , maybe dave doesn't want to pay out on it as he's not so keen on the gaelic games they show
Yeah. I watch it. It is okay. I got it included in a much better package when I threatened to end my Virgin 'start up' subscription. I said to the operator"I was thinking of switching to Freeview..." That did the trick! I now pay a lot less and bet better channels, not that i watch any of them. I prefer Sky pundits to setanta but not by much.
There is no doubt Sky is far superior. Dont mind the additional cost for what you get over the year and getting some of the England games was a bit of a bonus.
A typical day out at a footy match can be pretty damn expensive these days as can beers in pubs/meals out etc.

It's the consequence of an EU ruling to bring in more competition over the rights and stops one broadcaster simply outbidding the others and monopolising coverage. The downside is that if another sat TV broadcaster wins the rights to show some of the games that viewers have to take out two subscriptions. Had the BBC or ITV won the rights then it would effectively be free to air.
For your info the TV rights are now sold in six equal shares of 23 live matches, from memory they are Saturday lunchtime, Saturday late PM, Sunday early afternoon, Sunday late afternoon, Monday evening and midweek/Friday games, plus there is a highlights package. Each can be bid for and sold separately, so in theory there could be six different broadcasters of live football.
The bidding process for the sesons 2010-2013 is currently underway. Sky have won four of the packages. The two still up for grabs are Sunday early afternoon and Monday evening games (I think) which are still being auctioned - the two bidders for these are Setanta and ESPN. BBC has the highlights package. Sky are rumoured to have offered the same money for the four tranches that they paid for the current deal - i.e. ca. £1.3 bn, the BBC will pay £173m for the highlights.
What will be interesting is the amount that the overseas rights go for - currently that deal is worth £625m over three years. With Premiership football evermore popular in Asia and growing in the States that could be significantly higher.
as a big boxing fan aswell i love setanta and its getting better all the time they have had some good fights on there so far and have got some great fights coming up.as well as the weekly steve bunce show which is always a great watch. And theres always football everyday.

Yeah that's true they do show some great fights on there, Mosley the other week was brilliant. Add to that they have all the UFC on there plus endless football from this country and all round Europe and i don't think it's a bad deal.
They have a football programme on as well which is good that's presented by James Richardson who used to do gazzetta football italia, he's one of the top presenters around i think.

There is an answer to that.

very similar to the old Sky monday night programme where they had fans from each club in the studio and a few guests etc...not bad
Dear oh dear
Dont know if it was my TV but it didnt seem to fit the screen properly.
Also the spelling was by the same 5 year old as well.
i did when virgin and Sky had that dispute and Sky cancelled our Sky sports news, sky news and Sky One channels.
but they gave us Setanta channels for free. and setanta sports news isnt a patch on the SSNews

Of the 6 packages on the new deal, Sky got 5 and Setanta the other (the 5.30 saturday games). ESPN didn't get any.
