I doubt this'll get used until much later on, as the guys at the match are probably only just being let out of the ground or are all celebrating in the pub, but I though it might be an idea just to have a separate discussion from the commentary thread. I dunno about you lot, but I was exhausted just reading it after the match was over, and I'm impressed Maria and Jimmy managed to keep typing away when it was all getting a bit fraught. So, questions for those who were there...
1) What kind of formation were we playing and how did it change when the subs came on?
2) What was the goal like?
3) Did the defence look more settled today?
4) Where on earth did the 5 minutes of added time come from?
5) Did we ride our luck or just have better quality players?
6) Given all the pre-match hype, was there much hassle from the stewards and police?

Just calming down and heart rate getting back to normal....... Glad I have international break before doing helping our ex-pat friends out again!!
McLeod should have made it 2 at the end but when the final whistle went the players joined in the celebrations with Reidy "acting like we had won the world cup" and Mills and Toddy throwing their shirts in the crowd.
Superb atmosphere from the Addicks and a brave Palarse fan broke through the police cordon to attack Charlton fans single handedly, only to get battered by about 50 blokes!
Who would have thought it - especially with Fortune & McCarthy in central defence?
Palarse? Who the **** are Palarse?
I'm just really pleased with the clean sheet and 3 points!
That's something I wanted to know - the players reaction at full time. lol.
All in all, a very good performance. Defence looked better - thought McCarthy and Fortune both had good games - while Mills defended well, even if at the start he did seem to have trouble finding anyone in a black shirt when he had the ball!
Weaver also made a couple of great saves.
Palace huffed and puffed but in ZZ and Reid - and Racon and Todorov when they got on to the pitch - we seemed to have most of the quality.
Was surprised that we were allowed to leave at the final whistle and weren't held back at all.
I got away quite quickly and saw a few blokes being arrested on the way back to Norwood Junction, but it seemed minor.
Imagine there will have been more elsewhere though.
I have to say the fans were 1st class today, absolute quality, we sung for 90 minutes and generally supported the boys.
Weaver was outstanding, made 2 or 3 quality saves, I thought Fortune did well as did Iwelumo and Toddy when he came on. Mills looked shaky to start with but did well. Still not sure about Semedo and McCarthy, both looked a bit off the pace, although to be fair, Paddy did well when Palace were throwing balls into the box at the end. I would have loved to have seen an own goal from the Palace defender who nearly sliced it over his own keeper, you'll see it tomorrow for those not able to make it.
At the final whistle the boys showed that they understood how much it meant to them, which I loved - come on!!!!
Well done Mills & Toddy for throwing their shirts into the crowd.
This probably doesn't make sense, I'm a bit pi$$ed :-)
Selhurst is still a sh*thole
toddy and mills threw their shirts into the crowd, sir chris kept us all entertained at the final whistle as well with his usual antics.
thought big chris played well today, worked his socks off alone up top and won most of what came his way in the first half. the match lacked quality but we offered slightly (only slightly) more than palarse, i guess you could simply say it was a ding dong derby played at high tempo but short on skill or guile. saying that toddy took his goal well, their keeper looked pretty suspect and was caught out of position/flapping a few times.
I liked the look of Semedo and Racon, nimble feet, and it was great to keep a clean sheet with Fortune/McCarthy looking solid and Weaver pulling off a couple of saves. Mills was solid and committed, distribution was poor at times but he gave 100%.
NUMBER 1 IN SOUTH LONDON!!!
Perfect sense!
The VFR's came over brilliantly on the (very little) media coverage that we got.
Well done all who were there
I forgot to mention Big Chris, thought he led the line brilliantly.
Weaver made a couple of first class saves, defence held quite strong, thought Fortune looked excellent and was really pumped up at the end as was reid. Mills looked a bit shaky but on quite a few occasions he showed his experience and seemed to intimidate a few of them. Todorov looked quality, Iwelumo worked his nuts off, Midfield were solid although ZZ was quiet today. Great win and atmosphere....McLeod should have made it 2....oh and Racon, I think will be a big star he looked excellent, really sharp and good on the ball.
For me it was Weaver - the save in the 90th minute is top draw.
Thought Reid ran the midfield especially in the second half, ZZ did well, Ambrose was a bit in and out.
Fortune
Just a couple, Jordan whats the score, Jordan is a wan*er and Jordan takes it up the ar$e
Atmosphere was quality, we gave a fckin fantastic account of ourselves as fans today.I was fairly near that Palace idiot who got battered, what did he expect was gonna happen? Got what he deserved from where i was standing.
Havent felt this good after a game in a fair while, off out to get wrecked in honour of the result.
Right thats my happy bit done!
What I did notice is we've definately got more class than the majority of the teams in this league, the luxury of being able to have players like Racon and Todorov on the bench is something other teams in the league can only dream of. Was a very proffessional performance today Weaver had to make 2/3 fine saves but thats what he's there for and i'm chuffed for him cos i'm sure the fans have warmed to him more after today. I need another beer but i'll put a more thoughtful responce tomorrow...
Very Proud Tonight!!!!
Yeah I did a little bit!
Thought it was pretty even in the first half, but Todorov made all the difference, especially as Big Chris was starting to wilt - whether or not playing with two up front from the start would have been a wise idea is another question, considering Palace's, er, "committed" tactics.
What's keeping the smile on my face all weekend is the reaction of our team at the end - that win meant more to the Pards class of '07 than it did to the Curbs class of '04. Which augurs well for the future, I reckon.
A little bit of hassle coming in - sarky stewards talking about me as if I wasn't there, but they weren't that bright themselves - they'd allowed Palace fans (in replica kit) through the home turnstiles... arseholes. Little hassle coming out other than the delay, but we walked up towards West Norwood and back to Crystal Palace Park (more by accident than design), I didn't fancy getting caught up around South Norwood High Street.
Not sure the starting 4-5-1 formation really worked, as Big Chris was far too isolated. He won a lot of balls in the air but the ball often fell to defenders as no Charlton player was far enough forward to compete for the ball. The change to 4-4-2, with Toddy coming on for Thomas, changed the game.
Toddy showed he has got class to spare the way he controlled the ball, chipped the keeper & then rolled it into an empty net. I was also very impressed with Racon, who more than made up for the departure of Semedo. I thought Semedo struggled in the midfield "battle" & he does not look strong enough for these types of games just yet. Hopefully he will grow into the role. Racon, however, seemed to have time to spare & showed some excellent touches.
I am starting to really love Big Chris, the way he battles for every ball. His face was a picture when we scored & he ran over to the away supporters with a big, beaming grin on his face. The celebrations at the final whistle also showed how important the game was to the players. It's not taken Danny Mills long to get back into the Charlton spirit, but I was surprised how ecstatic Reid looked.
Finally, big credit to the fans who all did the club proud today!!
"If you've shagged Tara Stout clap your hands" was the, er, wittiest I heard...
You can't blame him to be fair.
Palarse gave him a chance in the pro game at the (relatively) advanced age of 25.
He probably feels grateful.
