Gonna have to go and find a "Jones" or worse... a "Rousillon" type transfer to do better and upset everyone now then!!fenaddick said:

Except the signings have largely not performed to the required standard and a lack of depth has caused us to drop quite significantly in formBailey said:This window is shaping up exactly like the summer one, nobody has a bloody clue ! Nathan obviously gets his way when it comes to information being leaked out, but if this window is as good as the summer one eventually turned out to be then we could be well satisfied.2 -

Apter - Great player but not right for this manager/ formation.
JRC - hardly played (not fancied ?)
Knibbs - ditto
Tanto - a bit-part player who has scored once all season.
Burke - decent player but injury prone
Kaminski - doesn't come for crosses & no better than we had already...and cost loads.
Pluses are Carey, Bell and......????
Call me picky but I'd say a successful transfer window would be players who are selected regularly (mainstays even) and can score more than once or twice in 20 games.15 -
My mate’s a plumber, knows nothing about football, neither has he heard anything but the tea leaves in his saucer this morning told him the whole team is joining Leyton Orient.3

Tbf u can question successful but Tanto is the only who I can confidently say hasn’t got the ability all the others have shown. Considering we’re only looking at 2-3 players opposed to 8-9 it should hopefully be easier to get the deals rightgolfaddick said:

Put another way, most teams have a c 50% hit rate on incomings. Our summer ones:
Apter. Young, full of potential. First step to the Championship. Started well but struggled to get in the team since Edwards injury. On a 4 yr contact. I expect him to come again. A decent bet for us.
JRC. Has looked one of our top performing players of late. For the price paid he looks a decent player.
Knibbs. Clearly has the knack of scoring. From what seen so far he is maybe a "finisher" rather than a starter but a decent person to bring in for last 20-25mins.
Tanto. Tens to agree with your assessment. As a striker he is, by Championship standards, a cheap punt. Should be plenty of L1 interest if we decide to move him on.
Burke: Excellent player. Cheap. Played 45% of games so far this season, wish it was more but given we are half way through it's not awful.
Kaminski. An upgrade in what we had but not helped by the hype given to him from some fans.
Carey. Excellent start to the season with goals. Off a bit recently but will come again. An excellent free transfer.
Bell. Excellent in defence as you can see when we miss him. As a free transfer he has been superb.
Kelman. So focussed on the negatives, you had forgotten him amazingly in your post. Carried an injury when he arrived but on a hot streak and looks a great bit of business.
Bree. So focussed on the negatives, you had forgotten him amazingly in your post. Started incredibly and win us some important points, got injured and has warriored through. A definite Championship quality RB for me.
Hernandez/Rousillon. Very cheap punts that haven't worked out. No harm done.
The summer window was ok. If course we would all have liked better but we were bookies fans for relegation and not paying a huge wage so we're shopping in a risky basket of L1 potential mainly. For me only Tanto looks lost in the Championship (not including the 2 cheap punts). The rest all have a place.
If I was upgrading existing players it would be Gillesphey and Docherty I would be most focussed on. Nothing against either who are wonderful people and great servants if the club but are where we could do better imo as they have struggled with the step up.26 -

The bloke was good for a couple of games but now can't cross if his life depended upon it.
No idea how old you are but to me a good transfer window is the one Chris Powell put together in 2011 and going back many years ago the one Lennie put together in 1985.7 -

About £7m of players who barely start2
-
Perhaps let’s judge players over the lifetime of their stay / duration of their contract and not after 20 games of the first season they are here?
JRC for instance may have appeared a dud until 2/3 weeks ago but could be a key part of our second half of the season.
Still plenty of time for Knibbs and Apter too.

JRC looks a very good player but with Doc Coventry and Carey playing so well he was just unlucky
Knibbs see above excellent player scores goals and assists but like JRC having to wait for a run in the side again could play Campbell role
Tanto not let anyone down think everyone would say he should have played a lot more games with Kelman .. only one goal but created a few
Burke as we seen last few games badly missed him injury prone really Leaburn been out longer then Burke over last few seasons his he injury prone
Kaminski excellent signing without him would be bottom three ..
Bell excellent addition , Carey was doing out this world then NJ moved him back not been the same player .. so all in all we had an excellent summer biggest problem was losing 3 weeks and trying to catch up .. signings not getting a pre season with us .. and not being able to play has many pre season fixtures as liked ..

1985 was a very different time of course. There was no transfer window as such, signings could be made up until March (Jimmy Melrose joined late and got us over the line as i recall) so that's not a particularly like for like comparison. I do agree we certainly put the bulk of a good new team together that season.

We didn't let him go, the guy just left for the money...CafcSteve said:It’s a little bit ironic that exactly the sort of player we could deal with now is one that we let go in the summer (Thierry Small).
I really wish we'd signed him as well. He would be great cover now and at RWB to start the season. But we didn't. We tried by all accounts but he chose someone else. It's a shame, but I think there's only so much the club can do to sign a player.
We knew that he was one of the few who could make the step up and was a known commodity to us so less risk than others coming in. He also fitted right in to Jones' system unlike some others that have come in.2 -

It’s like expecting every academy graduate to make the impact Lookman did, it’s unrealistic to believe it can happen every summer.
For me we needed to spend the amount we did just to compete, and the fees just show how expensive players are, rather than suggesting our recruitment was poor. We needed more squad depth, not just new starters - which is why players like Knibbs are contributing with goals but finding it hard to get regular starts. It’s a good thing we have a few midfielders who can impact games off the bench.
Despite the amount we spent being huge for us, based on where we came from, the wages we can pay and the level we can attract, we were never realistically going to put together a top half squad. We’ll have to build up the quality of the squad over time.12 -

Morning @CB1 👋8

James ward prowse on loan from the hamsters anyone? Played under jones before, is out of favour and a great technician. Wages would obviously be a huge stumbling block. I know JRC has burst onto the scene but we could do with another midfielder who can pass.2

Morning everyone. I’ve got a feeling that we are going to announce a signing today as well as beating Chelsea 1-0 with a Matty Godden goal on his return.6

Luckily you’d never see such nonsense at clubs like Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal or Utd, with their world class scouting networks.Gisappointed said:About £7m of players who barely start1 -
Makes sense why you are such a grumpy bastard all the time. If your expectation is that every transfer window, no matter what league we are in, we rebuild the entire squad, spend the most in the league and then blow away the league. Anything less than that is a failure.golfaddick said:

I'm afraid for a club like us they are once in a lifetime events. May I suggest you try supporting Man City if you like that sort of thing.
That just completely lacks all nuance or understanding of the situation we are in, where our budget compares to the rest of the league, what pools we are fishing in for players compared to the rest of the league.
This squad started well and even in a tough run with an injury crisis has kept going, shown fight and managed to pick up points. We have at no point dipped into the relegation zone. For us in our first season back that's success so far. Yes we need some reinforcements in this window to add depth and full gaps due to injury. But the summer window did its job.

Yep no rumours just debates on our own players, love this thread3

I really need to know if NJ slept ok.1

Nathan Jones teams famously take a while to get the best out of individuals. In L1 Gillesphey, Small, Docherty, Coventry, Godden, Campbell and others took a while to start looking like the players we needed them to in order to get promoted. They (and we) had to suffer for half a season because we didn't have a squad to allow these players to settle in. We're more fortunate this time round that the players from last season are able to carry a lot of that weight while the new ones adapt. Apter will be more consistent in time, JRC is now finding his feet, there's more to come from Knibbs and hopefully Tanto as well, Kelman is starting to get among the goals. Bell and Carey have settled straight in like Ramsay and Edwards did but there's plenty more to come from the others and it does amuse me that some fans don't seem to be able to follow patterns. We were always going to find it tough this year, the fact that we're still not in the relegation zone and giving newer players the time to adapt is a good thing and if we don't have more injuries setting us back I think we'll see that as the season progresses. Writing off a transfer window for a Nathan Jones side inside 6 months is just dim though13
