Winter-January 2026 Transfer Window Rumours ...

I asked my pal, a Blues season ticket holder, about Dykes:
‘Dykes is a weird one. Fans love him. He’s a real character. Seems to be used as an impact sub by Davies so only ever gets twenty or so minutes as a target man. That’s why he wants to leave, needs more minutes as he’s got a World Cup campaign coming up for Scotland. I like him, I also think that if he gets a run in a squad he’ll be ok. He’s a bit older mind you. Our Manager is becoming a liability though so his judgement is questionable.’

Sixty ! Sixty ! We only had 42 games in what was then division 2 Golfie, yes we an FA cup that mattered and the league cup was something to win as well but I think our interest in the FA cup was over by the start of Febuary and the league cup, I wouldn't have a clue, I remember us beating Leicester at home 3-1 Keith Peacock scoring two and drawing at home to Sheffield Utd 2-2 when John Dunn screwed up but sixty is stretching it, you were right about the pitches though.golfaddick said:
Might as well just play the U21's then.Crispywood said:Bell Burke have proven they can’t handle extreme workloads, Jones has looked liked he’s been limping in some games. Bree playing through injury, Leaburn needs some managing. Other 6 players aren’t a risk so wouldn’t be against seeing the likes of Coventry Kelman playing just protect those actually at risk
I do wonder how teams played 60 matches a season back in the 70's & 80's. Just 1 substitute & at this time if year pitches were mainly mud.1 -
Bailey, just for the record (and a bit off subject) John Dunn didn't screw up in that Sheff Utd game, the ref did. The ball was going out for what should have been a goal kick and Dunn shaped to boot it forward but deliberately dummied it. The ref inexplicably gave a corner, which was quickly tapped to Woodward (I think) who curled it into an empty net, with Dunn still remonstrating with the ref.2

Oh, I like the subject though NickKnack, I was the other side of the main stand in an area we called 'The Dip' I always thought John Dunn should have skied it into Floyd Road and didn't realise he'd dummied it because he assumed it was a goal kick. Thanks I will let John Dunn off the hook for that one then, he wasnt my favourite keeper but certainly an upgrade on Derek Bellotti.NickKnack said:Bailey, just for the record (and a bit off subject) John Dunn didn't screw up in that Sheff Utd game, the ref did. Heard that we’re interested in Harry Amass as United are thinking about recalling him from Sheffield Wednesday to loan him out elsewhere.4

As I said fit or not. That is the determinant.PaddyP17 said:
I take it that with this sort of cutting edge medical insight you run the medical department at a world-leading sports team, or similar enterprise, yes?valleynick66 said:I don’t subscribe to ‘resting’ players. They are either fit or not or in form or not.We just don’t have too many games and all are important to win (in our position). It really irks when we don’t field a full strength team in any cup game.If we sign players that can’t manage to play all games without a ‘rest’ in a squad that rarely has a cup run then we are not signing the players we ideally should. The context was however in not fielding a second strength team in the cup. They are charging full whack after all.If our players can’t accommodate a Saturday game after a week (6 day) break and than a further week to the next league game then I think that is strange. I happen to think the game comes at a point in the season when we don’t need to ‘rest’ anyone.Of course avoiding relegation is the most important thing. I just don’t see this game at this time to be in conflict with that.2 -
Rak-Sakyi could be available, but not for us.
This is more our market…
Other players who may be available:

JRS I just don't know where he'd fit into our system. Would make sense him going to Cov and playing on the opposite flank to Mason-Clark even though they have Sakamoto.0

The TC striker/winger role is the only place he’d fit, but he probably doesn’t do the tracking back and pressing that TC does and NJ expects.MarcusH26 said:JRS I just don't know where he'd fit into our system. He's a better version of Apter and everyone can see Apter doesn't fit into our system naturally, can't see why lots then think JRS wouldMarcusH26 said:JRS I just don't know where he'd fit into our system. I’m sure once again we might strengthen by getting Mr Nobody from nowhere FC. We should be doing deals now not at the end of the month when another five games have passed us by. if we’re going to strengthen do it now. Give the new players a chance to get going. It may be too late otherwise.8

Has anyone made this suggestion to Nathan Jones when they've ran into him?Brown59 said:I’m sure once again we might strengthen by getting Mr Nobody from nowhere FC. From what NJ said they’re clearly trying to get deals done, but it’s not entirely in our control. Clubs have to be happy for the player to go, which might only happen after their own signings are done.Brown59 said:I’m sure once again we might strengthen by getting Mr Nobody from nowhere FC. i promise you, Charlton aren’t just sitting around doing nothing and then panicking on the 23rd when they realise their time is almost up12 -

Yes it's been a hard Christmas week, but Sunday afternoon to Saturday evening isn't far off a week, and there's then a week before the next league fixture, so I'd be disappointed if we rested many players.Braziliance said:
You need to remember though, our best players will want to play this game, true professionals want to play against the highest opposition in the world.Berkshire1970 said:Jones is pivotal to our survival and no one to replace him. I would certainly rest him against Chelsea and Bell at the very least. We must do everything we can to retain our status in the championship.
He could be unfortunately injured at any stage, even training (touch wood)
As long as it's a competitive Charlton fixture, the best team should always be selected imo.
And I'm sure the players would all want to play in this game too. Especially Lloyd Jones. The Luton boys Burke and Bell have had their PL season, but Jones will rarely have had the chance to play against a big club.2 -
Dykes not in the Birmingham squad today…14

For what it's worth, my 'Charlton Insider' who works for the club in an unpaid voluntary role, told us before the Coventry game started that Charlton had signed 2 players already (obviously not completely finalised as not yet registered with the league) plus were trying to get at least a third. He also said that Anderson was leaving but didn't say whether a loan or sale and I forgot to ask (note Anderson wasn't even on the bench). A loan seems most likely as Anderson is one of Nathan Jones favourites (Wimbledon or Orient would mean he dosn't need to leave home).22

I’d assume if Anderson goes out on loan we will look to bring in a midfielder on loan ourselves. If that’s true then the Anderson deal is probably done but just waiting on us sorting our incoming midfielderCombeMartin said:For what it's worth, my 'Charlton Insider' who works for the club in an unpaid voluntary role, told us before the Coventry game started that Charlton had signed 2 players already (obviously not completely finalised as not yet registered with the league) plus were trying to get at least a third. It’s the 4th of January and of the 4 days the windows been open we have had 2 games. Next league game after today is the 17th, plenty of time to get 1 or 2 deals done5 -
Are clubs allowed to agree deals outside the window, it’s always confused me when you see that Chelsea have purchased a player and it’s in September.CombeMartin said:For what it's worth, my 'Charlton Insider' who works for the club in an unpaid voluntary role, told us before the Coventry game started that Charlton had signed 2 players already (obviously not completely finalised as not yet registered with the league) plus were trying to get at least a third. Didnt we sign Ronnie Schwartz outside of the Transfer Window? - We certainly got Hermann Hreidarsson outside of oneAberystwythAddick said:

Clubs can sell/buy players at any time they like, those players just cannot be registered to play outside of a transfer windowAberystwythAddick said:

Many have tried but he spends his time sleeping at the training ground rather than actually doing anything so is hard to find.ForeverAddickted said:

Completely meaningless post but it does make me laugh the Nathan Jones sleeps at the training ground. He lives by me in Greenwich and it’s not a long drive to the training ground, surely he’s got a phone and can deal with any transfer dealings from home? Not that I’m complaining, it’s a privilege to have a manager that cares this much.19
