Because right now, it feels like you have found another soapbox to climb on.TootingRedArmy said:jose said:It seems to be, judging by the comments here, that the distraction element of all the coloured advertisements is different according to where you sit.
When we went to Wimbledon before (Ryan Innes) the low level lighting was not only a distraction, but washed out sight of the play below about knee height. At the time I was glad it wasn’t at the Valley, yet here we are, not only having the football washed out at low level, but everywhere from where I sit in the Curbs stand.
I doubt very much if the system has been road tested from a spectators point of view, but tested by the geeks from a technical point of view.
There are solutions. Turn the stuff off is one, or dim the brightness considerably is another, or turn off/dim where the worst effects of the distractions occur.
I still believe there exists in some quarters distain from the club towards the ordinary fan, from very poor information and poor timing about U21 matches, very very poor coverage and information regarding the academy despite Valley Gold, very poor preparation for feeds or broadcasts which go wrong a lot accompanied by weasel apologies, the terrible communication and events around the Millwall match, and the casual attitude towards food and drink served around the ground (of which there has reportedly been some improvement), turnstiles not fully operational. Training and preparation of stewarding.
In my view there are several areas that can be improved, but I am not confident it will ever happen.I completely agree first and foremost, we as supporters are customers, yet like too many modern businesses, we seem to be the last people the club is concerned about.
What we’re seeing now feels like a mix of complacency and carelessness from those running day-to-day operations at Charlton. From the ticket fiascos at play off SF & Final and Millwall, to the poor food & drinks service and indifferent stewarding, there’s a real sense that standards have slipped and nobody seems to care enough to fix them.
Take the new electronic advertising boards as the latest example. You’d expect a professional club to have tested them properly before a live match to have staff sit in various parts of the ground during lets say an academy training game to see how the boards affect sightlines and match enjoyment. But clearly, that kind of basic due diligence didn’t happen.
There’s an underlying lack of professionalism and respect for fans that runs from the top down. Communication from the club feels dismissive, and feedback whether through the Fan Forum or surveys goes unanswered or ignored. It’s as if those in charge have forgotten that without the supporters, there is no club.
There used to be pride in how Charlton treated its fans. You can’t help thinking that if someone like Rick Everitt if he was still overseeing comms and some of operation duties at The Valley, this level of incompetence and disregard wouldn’t be tolerated. It needs someone high up to sort this out or get the Welsh dragon Nathan Jones, perhaps to get to grips with what’s going wrong and remind staff what this club stands for.
Because right now, it feels like us mere fans are an afterthought, when they should be at the heart of everything Charlton does.
How's the Millwall thing going? Still.1 -

I've criticised club about the BIG screen being 32 x 9 & luminosity of electronic display screens but credit where credit is due. The remberance day display on the boards with falling poppies was beautiful and dignified. I took this photo, before the Last Post and 1 minute silence. Well done to person in charge a very moving occassion, simple but striking poppie animations and complete silence in The Valley from the 17K home and away supporters.2 -

The brightness, luminosity of the electronic boards was a fraction dimmer, I would humbly suggest it can during the match be dimmer still. The adverts are were mainly internal club related i.e selling tickets & small & local brands which can't bring in much revenue? It will be interesting to see if club's marketing dept can get some premium prestigious brand advertising which will bring in better reveniue for when we are Live on SKY for a 12.30 KO or another day when were shown on main channel, not on SKY+.1 -
ah strange comment? CL, is a forum for fans to discuss many things...Major said:

so its OK that Millwall fans can be let out and 20K Addicks inconveniced & safety issues etc?
& poor comms and operation issues at the valley like new electronic display boards?
so would you prefer we just shrug our shoulders and say ok its fine?1 -

How long have there been two subs boards in use(I think there’s always been a back up) I saw last night WBA subs and our subs coming on at the same time and both boards were in use , much better for saving time0

For me the lights remain distracting.1

Had my brother with me in the CE last night, his first game seeing all of it too. Fully agreed with how fantastic it looks, but also that it's quite a distraction and the reds take your eyes away from the game. Do think they may have knocked the luminance down a little bit though.
Not a bad first world problem to have when you think about it admittedly when our biggest headache these days is how bright digital boards are1 -
It was definitely less bright from the Upper Covered End.0

It’s been suggested that there is now a significant obstruction due to the positioning of the advertising boards, which are completely blocking out the touch line…….plus a bit of the pitch itself.🫣
Surely that can’t be the case, especially when you consider it’s where the press are seated. It definitely is. In the front row, you cannot see the whole pitch if you sit in your seat. The entire line closest to you is out of sight, which is really poor. You should be able to see the full pitch if you pay for a seat in the first row of a stadium. I think everyone would agree with that, especially if you have been sitting there for 25 years and no one has told you this is happening. A child sitting in that seat is going to see barely anything.
I haven’t tested the press seats, but I’m sure it’s an obstruction for them as well.
They haven’t done the work. If the LED panels were thinner, it wouldn’t be an issue. But adding a six-inch or so protrusion to the front of the press box, when the press box is already deeper than a normal row, is enough to negatively affect the experience of sitting there.
If you had never sat where I sit, which is row C, before maybe it wouldn’t bother you. But I now can’t see the dugout, don’t see the players warming up, and have to lean forward to see a corner being taken at the other end. Things that I've always just assumed I'd be able to do. These are all reasons we go to the game: to enjoy the experience of being there, the things you don’t see at home.

You should try watching a corner from the F Block being taken from Infront of the Family Stand 😅BenHaimandBikey said:SoundAsa£ said:Would someone be kind enough to take a photo or two of the pitch from the front row of the West Upper.

A student from the University of Greenwich took the flak for it, which was a cop out in my opinion3 -
The team names read out on the big screen were out of sync with the names on the West. Half the boards at the JS end not working. The Jensen clips were poorly done. Was a bad day at the office before a ball was kicked.
Was Josh Edwards announced in the team or did I imagine that? It's entirely possible I'm going mad, but the names out of sync had my head in a spin by then!1 -
Pretty good for showing the teams but on the flip side pretty poor for showing video reel.
Heads and feet missing all over the shop0 -
Scoreboard team line up included Berry, Edwards and Bell as starters. If only, eh?2

Also showed five minutes added time to be played after just 30mins of first half4

This is what happens when the bloke inputting the information is 250 miles away in Preston .4
