Are Charlton a sleeping giant beginning to wake?

Love a debate where no one is wrong because there isn't an agreed metric to measure it by so all opinion given is subjective.
Oh, and quite often the fact that fan bases grow and shrink over time with success/failure gets disregarded.2 -

Just want to enjoy the Championship. The premier league is a money pit for foreign investors and its not fun anymore.
If we somehow get promoted again, we'd have absolutely no chance of staying in that division.
I'd only be happy for us from a financial perspective. It would be great in that regard and we can carry on building the club up after we get relegated due to only getting 25 points from 38 games.
Same size as Brighton and Palace and not far behind Forest and Wolves.
So we can easily compete with 8 of the 20.11 -

I do think we’re bigger than Brighton & Palace though rather than being on par1 -
I look at us as a mid table second division club.
As for a sleeping giant, hmmmmmm.4 -

No, we are not0

Nope. Rather we snuck back quickly so people forget we ever fell away0

Sleeping, more like comatose. Definitely not a giant and never have or will be all the time we rent a ground with a relatively small capacity. Looking up from 4th place finish there are many clubs who would consider themselves bigger than us and in the EPL definitely all of them consider us exactly what we have become, a third tier club.
I have struggled for many years to except our place in the pyramid of football and always believed we should have been better than where we were. But reality speaks for itself, we’re rubbish for many years apart from a few months here and there. We have a mountain to climb just to tread water in this division, hence the amount of players we’ve signed. Hopefully we can kick on from last season and rebuild to where I always thought we should be and where we were 20 years ago. 40k fans at Wembley and many left watching on tv a couple of months back give a hint to what things could be like given the right backing and a huge slice of good fortune.0 -
Only time we've been a giant in football was pre and post WW2.4

However, a very worrying trend is seeing people in Dartford, and surrounding area, in Palshit tops
Yesterday I walked my 2 dogs at Horton Kirby - I had a Charlton polo shirt on - first up, 3 lads (I would say 13’ish years old) all 3 wearing Palshit shirts in the park - then walking along the river, a bloke and a woman jogging, both in Palshit shirts - then I popped to the pub for a couple of pints, I’m sat in pub garden, and a family come in, and their 2 small lads both in Palshit shirts !!!
I could hear their Dad saying that I was a Charlton fan, and that we hate them, but he didn’t understand why - blimey he didn’t even know the history
So my point is this - their years in the Prem + FA Cup win are now creeping into ‘our’ area - and for ‘our’ I mean Charlton and Millwall

I dream of a world when you can have an opinion about Charlton and @millwallfan (who only comments where Millwall are mentioned apparently #bs) doesn’t pile in with his option3

fair play though most of you dismissed the idea of being a sleeping giant. Maybe this time spent in L1 has humbled you all a tad?😁
Anyway, Millwall and Championship threads only from now on. 👍🏻

Many of us you here like you @MillwallFan, a shame you are only on this forum for another three weeks.2

Out of the 3 sides that came up last season we are by far the favourite to go back down, we need a few seasons to stable in the championship and then who knows maybe a tilt at promotion1
-
Curbs often referred to us as 'Little old Charlton' during his years as our manager. I also remember adverts flying around in the mid 90s when promoting coach travel to the Valley saying 'There's a big club, right on your doorstep'.0

Palace are currently bigger than us because they have been in the Premier League for years.
Charlton on the other hand have been through a succession of poor owners which led us to our lowest league position for nearly 100 years
Should Charlton return to the Premier League and stay there we would resume our position as South Londons biggest club.3 -
