I am going to say Ahadme ahead of Leaburn, probably for this one only. Leaburn is not match fit.
Ahadme isn't match fit either. He's only played 45 mins this pre-season.

The Gasman doesn’t have to get fit because the Gasman stays fit.

I’m a bit worried we haven’t strengthened in the right places over the summer. We’re in the Championship now yet we’ve got the same Match Previewers and it’s a gamble as to whether they can step up. When’s the last time any of them were previewing at the Championship level?

My Source tells me both George Elek and Ali Maxwell were approached to be Match previewers in the Championship for CAFC on Charlton life but as in most things in life it came down to finance.

George and Ali wanted a bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Lindt Chocolates whereas ForeverAddickted was happy as Larry with wagon wheels and Sainsbury's house Pinot Grigio.

    Excellent preview as always FA.
I think at least 9 of the players in your starting eleven will probably start, although it  could come down to fitness with a couple of them.
I shall be watching this game in a bar in olu deniz and hopefully see us get 3 points to get the season started.

You do know it’s Monday right FA? Very organised
Was sitting here bored mate, so thought I'd make a start :D - I know the Mods have previously like the opening Match Preview to be earlier than usual
You've created a problem for yourself though mate, we're going to demand match previews 6 days before every game now 😉

Cheers I thought I'd updated that, when I spotted it myself

TEN YEARS I've been bloomin' well doing these Preview for now... Where's my testimonial? - Lesser people associated with Charlton have been more awarded than me

We've signed 9 new players & you start with Docherty  & Coventry !!

Knibbs to play some part during the 90+ mins, as will Fullah. The starting 11 however will be chosen out of a hat.

    My prediction.....we will win. 2-1.
I predict Coventry will be up there competing for POTY this season. Think his style is going to shine in the Championship.

This is Watford’s team from their latest friendly, a 1-0 win over Deportivo

One big potential miss for Watford is Giorgi Chakvetadze who hasn’t played a minute of pre-season yet. He is their best player and has had interest from the likes of Valencia this summer. Could be a good time to play them if he’s not fit yet

I'm very out of touch with Championship teams, is that considered a decent side for this level?

I've only heard of Baah, Kyprianou, and Abankwah.

Surprised/interested to see the bookies have us as favourites:

3/2 vs 2/1 for them (roughly)

Gas was terrible last season in League 1 - it’s amazing what 2 goals against non league can do to people’s memories! If we need Gas this season, something will have gone very wrong!

Weirdly confident, Watford without their main creative spark in Chakvetadze and a new manager with no experience of English football. Ideal time to play them

2-0 win , Kelman and Jones.

Super preview FA can't wait to see who's selected and how we play .. coming down for this one, IF the trains are running AND close to running on time .. feeling a bit edgy and buzzing with expectation

Jones now has a selection issue, who to leave out, much better of course than who to put in to stop the rot lol
I am expecting us to get at least a point
I think Watford will miss the aging Moussa Sissoko who was a big player for them last season

I think people that are in touch with the championship still find it difficult to place Watford. They’ve definitely got ambitions to be up there this season but I doubt they will be

I’d say it’s a decent side but quite young and particularly their attack is pretty inexperienced. Weren’t great away from home last season which I don’t think is surprising for a young team

1-1, Watford are no mugs and will be up there around playoffs, ill take a solid draw while we find our feet. I think their new striker will get a goal

    Something has gone very wrong.
We have lost our senior striker Matty Godden, who is rumored to be to out until September,
and Miles Leaburn who is rumored to be either injured or still unfit to play.

That leaves us with Ahadme and Mbick.

So who would you put on for Kelman when he needs to replaced after 70 minutes?

    Charlton 1 - 1 Watford

A win would send the Valley into raptures - but we must avoid a defeat.

Even a late ish equaliser would be great.

Back in the champ and potential for 6+ academy talents to be in the squad on merit, rather than desperation like 19/20. Can't wait.

I think you have the team spot on.

A nervy 1-0 win with bodies thrown on the line at the end.

Form book out the window for this one. Heart says 1-0 heads say 1-1.
Both of those results are good for me really.

Happy Football New Year everyone.   COYRS!!!!

Start with Kelman and Olaofe, bring on TC for Kelman at 70 and then Leaburn on for Olaofe for however minutes he can do.

If Leaburn isn’t fit enough to be involved then Mbick could do the last 5-10 minutes if Olaofe can’t do a full 90.

Or if Leaburn isn’t fit we could start with Olaofe and TC, and then switch to 3-4-2-1 later in the game and use any of Apter, Carey, TC or Knibbs behind Kelman.

We’ve signed some good attacking players that are also versatile so that gives us plenty of options even without 2 of our strikers

Yes he was, but he only played in the first half of the season when the (mostly long ball) style didn't suit him and Nathan was just establishing his "style" and identifying his best 11.  Second half of the season he didn't get a look in - for whatever reason we don't know - rumours of long term injury/illness.  None of us are convinced he is the solution or can step up in the Championship - but I wouldn't write him off yet - and, as others have said, we might have no alternative but to play him.
