He did alright again today, but the other 3 are all playing well so it does feel like Kelman should probably not be starting, and it might help him to come on off the bench when the game has opened up.
Big concern for Kelman will be that the other 3 are doing a lot more than him, so when Godden returns, Kelman could struggle to get on the pitch at all unless there’s an injury
Maybe he’ll get loaned to a L1 club and be their top scorer
Zero confidence written all over him. Had a couple of opportunities today where he hesitated because he doesn’t back himself. Then in the second half TC had the ball outwide and Kelman should have been screaming for it near post, but was telling TC to pull it back. Not sure how much more opportunity we can give him as a starter.
Looked good today nice flicks and a good swivel and shot that keeper done well .. interesting when Gilly come he started to find Kelman with his cross gold passes … needs better support and the way the game changed when Olaofe replaced Campbell that’s your answer

At which point Kelman was also replaced
There’s no point, Ronnie despises Campbell just like he despises all youth products
Weirdly not worried about Kelman. He gets one goal and he will have a certain confidence. I also think that he sets the stage for our bomb squad to come on and change the game. He could press a little more perhaps, but no doubt in my mind he works hard, is someone defenders cannot drop their concentration against, and has exactly the right mentality to keep putting in shifts for the team.
It would be nice if he'd scored by now but I am not yet going to panic.
Can’t keep using the needs to get up to speed excuse. Bree and Burke not only coming off no preseason but also injuries as well and they’ve looked brilliant. Kelman has offered nothing more than what Karoy would have offered up top. TC is frustrating up top as well because of his lack of end product but can’t say he’s not tried to score and get assists whereas Kelman I’m really struggling to see how he’s more of a forward than a midfielder
I think he looks a very tidy, technical player from what little I have seen so far. His issue is, he isn't tall, isn't strong and isn't fast. So he relies on the right service and hasn't really had that. It's up to him to adapt and improve the weaker sides to his game. I bet if Olaofe starts he has less impact than he did coming off the bench, possibly Leaburn too. Ultimately the competition will mean they all need to raise their game and then maintain it; that's great for us.
Still trying to give him the benefit - as you guys are being positive, but he still looks like he is just missing some athleticism at this level or something. Lets hope a goal or two will change that. Don't mind him starting for the reasons others have said (helps the finishers)

Yeah, what I was going to say. His reading of the game seems a yard off where it could be. I still back him to come good, and NJ wouldn't be starting him if he wasn't contributing, but there were a few situations today I thought Godden would have been half a yard ahead instead of half a yard behind. He probably just needs a goal and he'll be fine.

I thought Leaburn was pretty good in his starts this season. I think I’d like to see Leaburn and TC starting with Kelman and Olaofe coming on
It can be argued that our two biggest money signings, Kelman and Knibbs, have been the least effective so far, other than the forgotten Rankin-Costello.
By contrast, I can't imagine anyone predicting that Carey would be ever present and our top scorer.

I was so underwhelmed when we signed Carey (I think he was our first signing?) and I was so wrong.
In fairness to Knibbs in the 72 mins he’s played he’s directly been involved in 2 goals that’s a very decent return. Even if the fee is a lot for a player to sit on the bench he’s definitely made Carey a better player by having to fight for his place he was ok in pre season but had stepped up a level since Knibbs walked in. Same goes with Doc for JRC, Kelman has been the only concerning signing so far
If Jones wasn't happy with what Kelman does, he wouldn't be playing. And he's not playing him "because of the fee" or Knibbs would have been starting over Carey too.
I'm sure everyone including Jones and Kelman would love for him to have scored by now but we've got the results we have by setting up and playing the way NJ wants - and he wants Kelman starting.

People kept saying similar things about Ahadme last season.
I thought he did alright today. What I have noticed is none of our opponents centre forwards have looked any better that we've played so far. None have had much impact as they are always isolated

It's not just the lack of goals though, it's the lack of general attacking impact that's a bit concerning. We've scored 7 goals this season, has Kelman been involved in any of them?
And this is before Matt Godden returns to add even more competition up front.
First time today I've been disappointed in him. Couple of times Campbell had the ball in dangerous positions and Kelman wasn't in the box looking for a ball across.
But, we've won 2 on the spin so I don't think there's any need to change the system. He's clearly doing a job for Jones and that's good enough for me atm.
When coming on as a sub it was too late in games, and we've notoriously been slow starters in League games in particular for about 18 months. Some of the chances falling to people late on in the game, I'm certain he would have tucked one or two of them away by now.
I honestly think Godden would struggle to score in the lines ups Jones has been starting with.
Hes still finding his way at this level. Hopefully the game time he's getting is slowly educating him to the pace of the championship and how defences shift and organise. He's had hardly any clear cut chances to speak of. If he had, and was missing them I'd be more concerned.. If Jones is happy with him, I'm happy. We're just going to have to be patient

Again that's my point though, whether or not we think Kelman isn't making enough impact, Jones clearly does. He's not a manager who'd play someone who wasn't doing what he wants/needs him to do.
If Godden comes back and suddenly Kelman is dropped to the bench then I'll hold my hands up and say I got it wrong but as it stands, Jones DOES think Kelman is bringing enough and frankly his judgment means more than any poster on here.

Living off one decent season in L1!

Could do with Leaburn alongside him or he might as well not start.
