Early prediction: he’ll be back on loan at Orient by the end of January
I agree they would take him, but what is the point of a loan? If he came good again there, what would that prove? I say straight swap for Sean Clare. At least he runs about a lot and kicks people.
Whilst I agree with most that Kelmans style of play doesn't normally fit us why then did we buy him? Only Nathan knows but I'd love to hear his thinking.
Because Jones believes that he can develop/coach the skills needed to become a player who WILL fit the way we play. He's got skill and finishing ability, those are things you can't teach - if he can adapt and learn to play a Jones system then a proper cutting edge up front would win us games like yesterday's.
This, plus the way we play will continue to evolve, so it's a bit of Kelman adapting and improving, and the team doing the same.
This. We're playing with one central striker at present but when Kelman came on he played as part of a front two and expect will do so when we play with two up top again, no way we'll keep playing 4-2-3-1 all season long.
Leaburn is our first choice striker whatever the formation, maybe Kelman can evolve into playing that role himself but we'll more likely see the best of him in a front two than on his own as we saw against Watford and Bristol City.
There is a seven minute clip of Kelman’s goals last season on YouTube He is composed in his finishing and he seems to have this ability to just place the ball past the keeper. I really hope it works out for him here, if it doesn’t he is going to get a stack of goals for someone. I can definitely see why we signed him.
Kelman started last season slowly, and then really hit a run of form second half of the season. Hope he gets a goal tonight, because I think it’ll be a case of once he scores one or two goals he will get some confidence and then start scoring regularly
I have doubts about how he fits our style at the moment but don’t doubt that he will score goals if given chances
I think it's absolutely crazy to be saying Kelman is a worry. He's only had a couple of games. He's trying to work out his role in the team and NJ is still working out his best formation. Remember it took NJ till December last season to get something that worked. Also, what are people expecting. Yes, he was League 1's best striker last season but what does that equate to in the Championship, he's going to be an average Championship striker at best and as we know most of those just about get into double figures. £3.8m is a lot of money for us but it's the going rate for an average Championship striker. Want anything better and you're looking at £7-8m. We could've risked it all on a striker for that money but that would've meant no Knibbs/Tanto and Apter. To me it's a sensible move, as Kelman is youngish and has potential to improve and we've had to upgrade more of our squad than most established Championship teams who add a couple of quality players every year. Also, this is a controversial opinion but I think Leaburn is slightly overrated by our fanbase because of his family background with the club. Kelman/Leaburn and TC could all be better finishers/passers, but if they were they wouldn't be at Charlton, they would've been snapped up by bigger teams.
When I started going in the 70's, both players and managers were given a minimum of a season before there were rumblings from the fans.
When I started going in the '50s, you could get a packet of Woodbines, a pint of bitter, a ride to the West End and back and a blowjob, all for a quid. F'all to do with nowadays.

No you couldn't
Well, no, maybe not literally. I was just being poetic.

Nope, I'm wrong, if a player has two bad games then he's got to go.
Can't judge him on tonight. We lost this game in defense and midfield.
At what point do we realistically stop making excuses and just said he’s had a poor start in a Charlton shirt. Way too early to judge him overall and can become good but Ahadme was battered for playing like this when he joined last season after the same amount of time and he cost a 1/4 of the money

You could say every striker currently this season is having a poor start in a Charlton shirt considering Kelman, Leaburn, TC and Tanto all have zero goals in the league.
The bloke must be gutted he didn’t stay at Orient/L1 team for another season and build up some stock there.
He’s come here, had to put up with very little service and long balls- and has hardly had much to play off when we have tried to get him in the game! Matty Godden needs to put his arm around him
for all the stick he will get for being the £2.5m dud, its a calculated purchase/investment - but just one we seem adamant to not try and involve or work to.
Hopefully he will come into his own towards Christmas, as Godden did, once we find our groove and actually have a pattern of play that isn’t just limping it forward
Tanto’s not had league minutes to judge although been awful tonight. At least Leaburn and TC have offered something in the build up though, TC was good at Bristol Leaburn was good at Leicester Kelman just been missing in all 3. As I said way too early to judge but shouldn’t immune to criticism
Kelman and Tanto need more time and a better system.
Give the guys a chance and trust Nathan.
The system isn’t changing
We defo need an alternative system then to bring these players on as (as jones says) ‘finishers’ if his standard tactics aren't working. Didnt work tonight unfortunately

He tried a more open attacking game last season and it fell apart. What was it 14 games without a win before Christmas.

??? Longest winless streak we had in the league last season was 4 games long...
