Charlton Athletic and Dane Murphy have mutually agreed that he will not be taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer, as previously announced.
Club Chairman Gavin Carter said: "This decision was made in light of personal and professional considerations on Dane’s part, and we fully respect and support his choice.
"While Dane had not formally commenced the position, we are grateful for the time and effort he dedicated during the exploratory and planning phases. We thank him for his integrity throughout this process and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.
"The club’s Board and ownership will now evaluate the next steps. In the meantime, the club will continue to be led by the current leadership team, who have done an excellent job - overseeing a strong finish to last season and managing a busy and productive summer.
"This summer has seen our men’s first-team make eight new signings, our women’s first-team make six new signings, the appointment of a new Commercial Director, and growing momentum following our Wembley success. We’ve experienced record merchandise sales, season ticket sales at the highest levels in at least 17 years and anticipate our opening match of the season, against Watford on August 9th, to be our highest-attended home opener in at least 16 years.
"That busy and productive summer has also been reflected in the work going on at The Valley with upgrades made around the stadium and the phased introduction over the next few months of new LEDs, floodlights and big screen.
"It's an exciting time for the club and I'd like to thank our hardworking staff and fantastic supporters as we look to continue to build together."

When in the chronicle of wasted time I see descriptions of the fairest wights, And beauty making beautiful old rhyme In praise of ladies dead and lovely knights, Then in the blazon of sweet beauty’s best, Of hand, of foot, of lip, of eye, of brow, I see their antique pen would have expressed Even such a beauty as you master now. So all their praises are but prophecies Of this our time, all you prefiguring; And, for they looked but with divining eyes, They had not skill enough your worth to sing. For we, which now behold these present days, Have eyes to wonder, but lack tongues to praise.
Bit of a shit show tbh. Means back to the drawing board with looking for a CEO. Imagine applying for the job months ago, going through interview stages, being told no and then seeing the job come up again/get offered the job.

Why do we always react so negatively to things just because they go quiet or take a bit longer than planned? Sit back, relax, and it’ll all work out
Well well well
Yep happy to eat my own words on this one, won’t lose sleep over it though! We’re still having a great period in the club with a lot of positives going on even without a CEO steering the ship
A slightly strange situation, but then I've always been slightly confused what his role actually was, seeing that Rodwell is still at the club, and Phil Chapple is back as Head of Recruitment.

Hello Nigel - great to see you sign up to your former club’s fan forum.
They are not relegated, they just lost their professional football license (Holland has 2 professional divisions and you can't get relegated from the 2nd one). However seems like several club watchers are somewhat optimistic they will obtain a license as they appealed.
What I gather from Dutch media, is that - after Russia got out of Chelsea/Vitesse - an American called Coley Parry wanted to buy Vitesse and loaned the club money ("several millions", which is the only reason they were able to pay the bills). The Dutch football regulator objected to that sale, Vitesse got for a short period a Dutch owner and then 5 guys bought Vitesse, one of those 5 being Dane Murphy. However ~2 weeks ago Vitesse lost their professional football license because the regulator suspects that those 5 are acting as a front for Coley Parry. Unclear to what extent Dane Murphy's involvement is in this shitshow, because on the one hand Parry claims the Vitesse shares and because of that the five can't complete the sale, but simultaneously the regulator suspects they are in cahoots with each other ...
Looks to me like Murphy did a decent enough job at other clubs to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's just hope the stink of Vitesse doesn't follow him.
Appreciate the thoroughness of the process. We've been burned too many times before,so if he didn't meet the remit so be it. The red flags must've been there before they announced his appointment so the question from me would be, why announce it?
I think the club have given it every opportunity, but can’t let it drag on, so need to take action.. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put someone temporary and re visit this once all is resolved.

To be fair, we’d all have been asking wtf weeks ago if there had been no announcement of a chief executive. I think they were damned either way, but perhaps he was a naive choice in all the circumstances. It does seem the announcement has been dragged out of them, which suggests they need better comms.
So, what are people thinking then, any good conspiracy theories on what made him do a u-turn?
Either way, I'll be applying for this role, then we will really start seeing some transfer window prowess.
I heard* he rocked up in the boardroom one morning in salmon chinos carrying a loaf bread before whipping off his jacket with a "Varney LOL" tshirt then ran down and slid across the centre circle before smashing out a 20 minute drum solo for the pigeons.
We kinda said no ta after that I think.
* I might have made all this up really, saying that, my source has never let me down where nonsense is concerned.

Theres a really good comms guy in this photo at Herne Bay last night
Sounded like a great appointment and came with glowing reviews from Forest fans but if the Vitesse stuff was causing concerns then fair play to move on

We’re skint again surely goes to the top. It’s definitely not what Blackpool said above.
All jokes aside, I'm not fussed anyway, we have done well without him.
Recruiting all the Crème de la crème from League 1 and added some experience. It's what I've always wanted so can't ask for much more than that.
All they need to do now is go and sign the English centre back with an Italian centre surname who has been one of the most aerially dominant centre backs of the last 5 years, and we will have had the best transfer window ever.
Given he was clearly coming in to the football side I wonder if that's still the plan or if they decide they need a more business minded CEO for the other side of the club instead

Guy Luzon all over again!

To me sounds like he didn't pass the tests the EFL have and we decided to choose someone else rather than any fallout. But who knows.

CCharlton wanted him.
He wanted to come.
Unfortunately he has been unable to sell his shares so the deal is off
