Home around 7.45, baked beans on toast & tea ( we know how to enjoy Xmas!) , now to reflect on this afternoon's match.
One word describes it for me......dire.
2 sides lacking in skill, confidence & possibly too full of turkey & Xmas pud ambled through the 90 minutes at their leisure with a " we don't really want to be here " air about them. I knew how they felt....
MKD appeared to have more about them than did the away team, but not a lot. They did manage to string a few passes together before giving the ball away or shooting rather carelessly, luckily for us. They could have been a couple of goals to the good after around 30 minutes & we couldn't have complained.
We were truly awful. Today seemed to highlight all our failings - and there are quite a few. It's SO obvious that we don't close down the opposition when they have possession but merely bob up & down in front of them in hope that this display of aggression & intent might frighten them to capitulate ! This happens all over the pitch & is definitely not a failing of the midfield alone. We give the opposition the initiative without so much as a whimper & hence their confidence rises whilst ours remains rock bottom.
OK, we did manage to win this game although on reflection, I'm not sure how. On today's performance, there was no way that Ajose or Big Josh was going to score but one thing that Lookie DID do today was take his chance calmly & cleanly. That strike was the difference between 3 and 1 point- simples.
IMHO, a comprehensive makeover of this squad coupled with some damned sight better coaching is required if this season can in any way be classed as a successful one. But I can't see RD handing his cheque book over to the gaffer without a backward glance, and, sadly, neither can I see "his man" stepping up to the plate & getting the best from his players, whoever they are. For most of this match, it appeared this team was going backwards under KR's stewardship. There was the odd glimpse of positivity but not enough to instil any kind of confidence in the faithful.
So, the circus travels East in 5 days time to take on the Essex boys. With a paper thin squad, few changes will be made to the starting line up although Foley might be given an outing & Chicksen could be involved. But with another match 2 days later, stamina will be sorely tested against a Pirates'
oops ! ..team that scored 4 this afternoon. It won't be pretty...
A win is a win but Lifers not making the trip today should be under no illusion that things are improving in the camp. Too many changes of personnel & training methods, too few experienced players & inevitable injuries has surely affected this already unbalanced squad of lads and coupled with the uncertainty around the club itself which only an owner of Duchatelet's incompetence can engender, all concerned must wonder what's coming next...
The key to making the play offs was being within touch and a good window - where the deficiencies in the team were fixed. I would say the first part will be met - in that a good run will see us in the play off places - in an unspectacular league. My issue has always been with the second part of the requirement. This ownership has cocked up every window despite spending money - I have no expectations that this one will be any different.
KR: "Hopefully, 100%. I’m going to meet the President tomorrow; me, my captain and my staff. STVV play Standard Liege at home, so we’re going over on the train to watch that and speak about what we can do in January. It’ll be nice to take in a game and discuss how we take this great club forward.”

Not sure, but if he's got any speed perhaps Karl can bring some back for our centre midfield

It was a terrible first touch from him and a quicker Goalkeeper would have dashed out and got to it, was an excellent finish from him!!

I thought we got battered in the first half, and couldn't quite believe how we went 1 up before half time, finishing was the days difference.
I got nervous and n the fret half every time the ball cam int the box.
We did improve a bit in the 2nd half, but the squad looks lacked no in depth and quality.
Hope KR stands his ground on his trip to Belgium , about what we need, but won't be holding my breathe.
Not sure I could put up,with watching this week in, week,out, fair play to those of you who do.
