Massives v Charlton | Mon 21st April 2014 | Match Preview

Scoring has been such a problem for the Addicks this season. I suppose things didn’t help when we sold Yann in January, but even so, recent troubles in front of goal has been so frustrating, especially as we are in a crucial part of the season.

In fact, our goalscoring problems are so bad, that I’m surprised Jose Riga hasn’t used the cliché, “we couldn’t score in a brothel” as yet.

However, hopefully with some added Viagra in their fluids, the Addicks will be able to find the back of the net against Monday’s opponents Sheffield Wednesday in what will be a MASSIVE game for Riga’s men.

The Opposition

Wednesday have had some fantastic results in the past couple of months and now find themselves safe from relegation.

Their change in form and results has been largely down to the great work of manager Stuart Gray who took over from Dave Jones permanently in January.

Last Friday’s 4-2 away victory over play-off chasing Bournemouth highlighted not only the capability that their squad have to cause problems but also how they’ll be a much stronger test than the side we beat 2-1 in the FA Cup in February.

One weakness they do have is their defence, and in particular Miguel Llera who we know all about. However, with our striking problems, Wednesday may not be too worried about that!

The Line –Up

Apart from not scoring on Friday, Jose Riga would have probably been pleased with his side’s performance but obviously the lack of chances and goals is the main concern.

Chris Solly not starting against Bolton may mean he starts on Monday with Lawrie Wilson potentially pushed up to right-wing.

Morgan Fox impressed at left-back on his league full debut, so he should continue there while, ex-Owl Michael Morrison and Dorian Dervite are likely to be the centre-back partnership.

Simon Church is likely to continue up-front while Marvin Sordell and Jonathan Obika are likely to be subs unless Riga switches to a 4-4-2, which could see Reza up-front ?

Astrit Ajdarevic may not be fit enough which could potentially see a first-team debut for loanee Davide Petrucci in his place. Callum Harriott and Danny Green will also be contesting for a starting place.

The Prediction

I’m in a good mood. 2-1 Addicks away win.

Cousins looked really tired to me yesterday, if we keep the same diamond formation we could play Wilson there instead.

Spongefoot and Sod all up top gives crossers two people to aim for instead of one.
    Thuram can stay at home.

what have we got to lose why not throw in a youth striker in!! it may seem stupid to say that but our senior striker are not scoring and with reza(our best IMO) being played right wing and even midfield we have less than no hope!! 3-0 to wednesday

I don't think Thuram likes travelling to Yorkshire so he might chose to sit this one out !

I thought we'd need to pick up four points from the Easter fixtures and I still do, so we need to win. I genuinely don't know who I'd pick out of Church and Sordell anymore, maybe both, maybe neither.

I'm going up for the game but that's it for trips to Sheffield for a while, I feel like I've spent an unholy amount of time watching Charlton in that part of the world in the last few seasons.

Yes, I think they're £28 on the door

Predicting the starting line-up has proved difficult lately. Players come into the side then disappear. What remains constant is our lack of a goal threat.

I was encouraged by our performance on Friday - if we can continue in that vein we could nick a win... or get another 0-0 draw.

    Our easiest game left.

The massives are to stupid to learn from their past mistakes and will , again , underestimate us.

    1-0 The Addicks

Agree with that. 90th minute, Hamer, headed from a corner.

The way things are looking, 3 points on Monday could almost keep us up, providing we only lose narrowly to Blackburn and Watford, as it would make it really hard for Barnsley to catch us, and Blackpool are crashing badly.

This. I have a funny feeling we'll get something.

    We're gonna get battered.

Lets face it, there is no love loss between us and Weds, from what happened in Div 1 and knocking them out of the FA cup, and then letting Sheff Utd beat us and go onto Wembley. The form they have been in they will be raring to go. If they can beat Bmouth 2-4 with 10 men, think what they could do to us. Trouble is they have only got to go into an early 2-0 lead and then they can sit back and watch us make a fool of ourselves trying to score. If we come out of this without damaging our goal average too much we should be thankful. Then hope all the other results go our way. It will be good to get to the end of the season safe, then clear out all of our so called strikers!

We ain't great but Wednesday are being overhyped anthem moment, they are on a good run of form but are no great shakes.

If only we had picked up Best instead of them.

I will go for a 1-1 draw, with other scores going our way that could be all we need to survive anyway!
