Decathlon - Thieving T***ers
Not sure if anyone can help with this one. Just spent 30mins on the phone to Barclays who ended up telling me to contact the store.....
Bought some new spd pedals and shoes for my bike at Decathlon Canada Water on Sunday. Transaction for £84.98 went through my Bank Account on 9th August. Jave just been checking my account and have noticed that Decathlon debited the same amount again today!.
Barclays are telling me Visa regulations stipulate that they can't intervene for 15 working days. Rang Decathlon and got some idiot who said come in to the store bringing both receipts! Pointed out that I only had one as I had only paid once. They then said to bring in a copy of the bank statement and they might be able to sort it out.....not hopeful.
Anyone else had this happen when paying by Visa Debit instore? Just wondering how easy it was to get the money back?
Good job I checked really as my final direct debit of the month would have bounced. Pain in the arse having to move money around.

I always use Visa debit and rarely pay with cash, but can't say i've ever come across this. I check my account details online on a daily basis so I'd notice if it had happened. Definately sounds suspect.

From what you said above, I assume you have a Barclaycard Visa debit card. Barclays will have signed up to the Visa Charge Back Scheme. (Google for more info). Trouble is Banks don't bother telling their call centre staff about it. Escalate to a Manager at the call centre and mention the magic phrase Visa Charge Back Scheme and they should recredit your account.
Get back to your Bank and give them grief. Good Luck. In effect Barclays have taken an unauthorised payment from your account. Stuff Visa's regs, tell them they are in breach of the FSA's "treating customers fairly" regime. This is particularly so bearing in mind that your account would otherwise have gone O/D. In my view the FSA's rules trump whatever other unfair contract terms my exist. Tell them if the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction you will instigate the formal complaints procedure. Make sure you take a note of all call times/dates and who you spoke to. Tell them you want the calls recorded by them for future reference.
Good Luck. And let us know how you get on.

I always expect then to take payments in ten installments0

Best bet is speak to the shop. Normally they will just refund the duplication.0

Bought a curry in Belvedere on new years and they charged me twice. Said it was my banks fault. Bank said it was their fault. No refund.0

My wife got double charged for a tennis racket in Decathlon a couple of weeks back. Got a refund fairly promptly but still, it makes you wonder how often it happens and goes unnoticed.0

Did you complain to the store directly?0
