Jenkinson and Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mail today, Arsenal are watching young Jenkinson after just a few games in the first team. This will be an excellent test for the new owners, who are said to be seriously wealthy and ambitious to take us back to the top. Mr. Wenger does not like paying big money, so I suggest that if forced to respond we start at £10 million plus sell-on. We may be about to find out a lot more about the new management.

I would be very surprised if that's true, but having readjusted to supporting a small club again I will be very pleased for him and wish him all the best.

Out of contract in the summer so would only get a development fee (ie peanuts). Can't see it happening anyway.

It appears that the contract offer has been made by Charlton, but not yet signed by Carl. Maybe the agent involved is 'upping his profile' for a better deal. Look in the press everyday and you will see that big clubs are 'showing interest' in players that, coincidently, are negotiating their contratcts. If the truth is known 99% of them have never even looked at the player. Hope he stays - in 2 years he will be a decent player.

Might be like the Man U link earlier. Undoubtedly a fine player though.

We're a league one club and good players are going to be snapped up by clubs above us. We're going to have to deal with it for another couple of years at least.

Let's just hope we can keep producing and attracting decent youngsters to Sparrows Lane.

I'm remembering the time when we sold Bowyer for £2 million and used the money to buy a new team which started our upward march. Interesting days.

We've always been a "selling club" - wonder if it's changed.

Can't see Arsenal buying an English born player - there again he does play for Finland - he'll be off then!!

Best youngster i've seen come through for years and you'd probably have to go back to Lee Bowyer as far as coming straight into the side and makinga n impact

all the decent ones leave and all the pony ones stay, hence we're still sloshing around in this shit

we're a 3rd division team with some 3rd division players

every club is a selling club. Man Utd didn't want to sell C.Ronaldo.

It seems unlikely that Arsenal are considering a move for him. Their scouting network is so vast that they probably watch every player in Europe. So at best they have probably watched him and he might have been added to a considerably long list of potential.

But arthur, Man U also bought him in the first place.

Jenkinson is the sort of player we need to keep and also for his own career a regular season of 1st team footie will stand him in good stead for a big move later in his career.

If he did go , could we attract the Gooners to go for Francis as well in a BOGOF.

If he goes hopefully we'll get him to sign a new contract first ala Shelvey.

Then I think with the new owners we could hold out for a bigger fee

This aint gonna happen in a million years, he's ok but not Arsenal material yet!!
  • Just gets into the first team and 6 games later he is linked with Arsenal.......

Surely by the end of the season it will be Barcca, or Real!

Very talented youngster, but he has a long way to go surely before he goes to a club like Arsenal!

Maybe, but not suprised he is being looked at though as a lot of clubs are looking at him.

Personally expect him to move on in the summer which will be a real shame, but i've come to realise its part of football now. We would have to offer him a very good contract, which will be a risk as although he has impressed, he has still only played half a dozen times. Bigger clubs with more money can afford to take a bit more of a risk.
  • If this is half true then shows to the owners how important the youth set up is and should be maintained when the new set up is bought in

I like Jenkinson, i think he is a decent player but not great, not yet anyway. He is still young though, only played a few games, but he does look like he can do a job at this level and possibly Championship.

If i compare him to Solly, Solly is a much better defender in my opinion. Jenkinson does have the height advantage though and is improving each game. If he could gain some strength and a bit more speed i'd like to see him as a CB some day.

I think this is just speculation about a young international playing in a lower league. And lets face it Arsenal are known for taking gambles on young players.

I can imagine a back four of Solly Mambo Cousins and Jenkinson in the not-too-distant future.

Jenkinson seems to have all the attributes to play in the top division. He has played at both Left back and Right back and seemed equally comfortable in both roles. He would also add height to any back four.

Given he would cost very little, i wouldn’t be surprised if a premier league club were interested

No he's not Arsenal material... he can defend for a start!

Quality player, would be gutted to see him go.

Maybe if we are relegated In to League two?
  • Could be his agent forcing a gun to our heads , trying to 'rile' the fans up , i hope he stays , he seems a good prospect.
