The truth is- whatever the management - every player (when you are where we are) has a price. What will say most about the management is what that price is whether it be this or any other sales.

Won't say anything about the management team or board as he is out of contract.
[cite]Posted By: PaulCAFC[/cite]It appears that the contract offer has been made by Charlton, but not yet signed by Carl. Maybe the agent involved is 'upping his profile' for a better deal. Look in the press everyday and you will see that big clubs are 'showing interest' in players that, coincidently, are negotiating their contratcts. If the truth is known 99% of them have never even looked at the player. Hope he stays - in 2 years he will be a decent player.
I might be alone in thinking this but I really hope this is the case. For too long we have been afraid of this sort of tactic, one that Palace and their agents have been using for years. I would happily give Carl a better contract on the back of this and believe that as a clb, we should engage in raising the profile of our players more often to get more money when we do sell. After all we are a feeder club, we need to be maximising our potential. I'm sick of Palace always claiing to have the best academy in the country despite their players rarely going on to acheive much.

yes, but not knowing what he's been offered, why would you 'happily give him a better one' ?....for all we know he might've been offered an excellent contract for a Division 3 full back (albeit a promising one)
I would be seriously suprised if he doesn't stay with us. If he went to Arsenal, he would be quite a way from their first team and he is in ours. His move will come and will be better for him if he makes his name.
If we lose youngsters like him the "new journey" referred to on another thread is likely to be downwards rather than upwards.
If we have any pretensions to move forward we need to keep him and any others like him. He has been a shining gem glistening in a pile of mud in recent weeks.
I got chatting to Jenkinson's Dad in Bartrams last season. I'd never met Jenkinson Senior prior to that. It was just that we were sharing the same table over a pint prior to the match and got chatting. If I remember correctly, he said that their family were Arsenal fans so I think Jenkinson would find it hard to resist should an offer from the club you support come in. Hopefully, Jenkinson will sign a new contract with us and see that he'll be first choice here and get some experience of first team football rather than sit in the reserves.
Agree with Len, far, far to early for the lad to move on.
I would have thought that gaining experience albeit in a poor side at Charlton at present was what the player would desire.
Albeit the prestige of moving to a bigger club, he is going to have a difficult time in playing even in the second team at Arsenal!
Up until recently Walcott hardly had a regular spot in that team, and Ramsey had to be loaned out!
If he progresses as we all hope he does, a move after next Christmas is surely the earliest, and if he was my son I would want him to play for a side where he gains experience by playing!. Not 'bench warming'.....plenty of time for the lad, after all he has been noticed hence this 'rumour'
this could be a good test of the new owners resources - think all agree that he is a player we want to keep (possibly the only one) and surely it must suit him to stay for a bit on the basis that he's virtually guaranteed first team football. If we lose him, it won't bea positive sign really about our aspirations over the next few years. One thing Millwall seemed to manage a couple of years ago was stopping their best players being sold even if they didn't splash the cash on spectacular new signings.
[cite]Posted By: daveroan[/cite]What happened to that centre back we sold to Man United a year or so ago? Jenkinson : listen and learn!
I believe he won Irish player of the year for his age group. You can't honestly think he should already be pushing Vidic and Rio for a place in the first team.
If this Arsenal link is true, he would be mad to turn it down.

He's playing well and is highly rated at the biggest club in Britain where he enjoys better facilities and better coaches and earns more money. Currently only 17 so I doubt he's battering Sir's door down demanding to know why he's not been made captain in Rio's absence to be honest. There's no guarantee that if he'd stayed with us he'd be developed enough to play in our first team, so I really don't see this as a cautionary tale in any way.
You only have to look at Shelvy to realise that our coaching up to now has been 10th rate. Any youngster would be better off away from us because their development comes to a crunching halt once they progress from youth team. Of course having no reserve team doesn't help. They go from playing youth football to training all week & sitting in the stand on match day. No bloody games how can they progess.
still hopes he stays of course, great prospect !!!
There is a thread about United showing an interest maybe about a year ago before he had even kicked a ball for the first team.
Would be disappointed to see him go but what an opportunity it would be. If we could get him to sign a new deal and then sell in a year or so for a decent amount, this would not be the worst thing.
Can't begrudge many wanting to play and learn from Wenger.
"Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be looking into the Football League once again with the pursuit of Charlton Athletic full-back Carl Jenkinson".
"Rumoured" and "looking into", not really the most compelling of reports. Sure, I bet they've looked at him - just like they'll have looked at every other youngster in the league.

Especially without Fortune!

McGinty? He was only 16.
I can't understand why he's not the first name on the teamsheet at Man U.
;o)

He's going to be a very good player if his progression continues at the current rate and losing him now would be a huge blow
