Aren’t they so stupid. And then the arguments with people about pub traditions and that queuing is not how to do things. When you just saunter up to the empty bar with a line of idiots waiting.

Walked out of the Blackfriar because of this last year. Ridiculous.0

Where do these people come from0

The only place ive ever encountered this was in the lake district in a pub in coniston.0

Great episode of Dave Gorman where he goes through the "etiquette" of how to manoeuvre yourself to the front of the bar.
I never envy bar staff who have to decide who to serve next.1 -
The upside of ordering by an app.3

Came out of the pandemic really didn't it? And as it's a social contract, and uncodified, no-one has gone back en masse to teach people what they should be doing.0

Basically the generation who got fucked by the pandemic now are oblivious to pub queuing culture. It’s sort of ok though, just skip past their long, straight line, queue and stand at the bar like a normal human being and you’ll get served quickly.PaddyP17 said:Came out of the pandemic really didn't it? Eventually we might be able to sit at the bar and have a beer.se9addick said:

Nope, I doubt that very much.0 -
They were queuing in the Dial Arch long before the pandemic.1

I prefer queuing to some gormless twat waving his arm at the barman and pushing in.

I have only really seen this in Wetherspoons, and I always assumed it was because (pre app) people were also placing food orders. It is the norm to queue to place a food order, and the process has morphed into all orders in those particular establishments.1

Always used to have to queue in the Lib. The good old days.1

Someone started an argument with me in a pub last year after I walked straight to the bar saying I’d ‘skipped the queue’ that he’d taken upon himself to organise. His girlfriend had to tell him he was a twat in the end.PaddyP17 said:Came out of the pandemic really didn't it? Many moons ago, I was in NY and watching WC qualifier games in Nevada Smith’s bar in Manhattan.golfaddick said:
I never envy bar staff who have to decide who to serve next.It was absolutely mobbed. The bar was run by a team of 4/5 Irish guys. They somehow managed to not only keep track of who was next but even remembered when it was their turn to buy the drink for the punter (was something like buy 3 then they buy 1).They were incredible and shows what can be done with smart, motivated bat staff. The difference is that bar work can be a proper, well paid (with tips) career in some places whereas in the UK this is hardly ever the case.I was in a bar near Times Square a couple of years back and the owner told me that (with tips) they had some bar staff earning $80-100k a year.5 -
Being 5 foot 2 is a sure way to not get served.2

Its a mark of subservient inadequate wankers and any pubs that allow it go on my shitlist
The lib was a bit different and the way you queued meant it didn't create a weird people snake in a room not suited for that.
Its a social norm for the punters to enforce if a barkeep goes to the wrong person first, bars are how they are to allow movement and to create space and an atmosphere. Next step might as well be a fucking vending machine
At music events and football I get why you queue like that else it gets out of hand quickly and the staff aren't mentally agile enough to handle customers at a bar
I was thinking I must have had a run in with someone over this and I have. Chatham wetherspoons, some sniffy prick told me there was a queue blah blah. I told him the bar is long enough and the staff kmow what they are doing (they don't in there but thats by the by)
Its a national disgrace

I think there should be a queue for youngsters and a bar area for non queuers. They’d soon end up with no queues!1

Depends how you look at it. When I approach a bar I look to see whose in front of me and know where I am. And if the barman looks at me I point that those people are in front of me.
Some people think their next no matter knowing that their not, if they try and queue jump me they soon find out they shouldn't be. This predominantly happens in spoons most staff know whose next outwith that chain.
So if queues eliminate the pig ignorant then good idea.15 -
All joking aside I really don’t understand the dislike by some towards Wetherspoons. They have a successful business model and are popular. Likewise doing more than most to keep the high street alive.(More) affordable beer than many other pubs. Are they really any worse than a longstanding local pub that makes newbies feel unwelcome because they aren’t regulars?
Their app is excellent and makes ordering very easy. The world has simply moved on.17 -
Everyone loves spoons we have 2 in Basingstoke... Trouble is the staff put the onus on you to say whose next lots of times.
Sadly their are those in life who will always say... Me. And not just in spoons.0 -
Spoon’ are always decent. They look after the beer so you’re unlikely to get a dodgy pint, they have a good selection which typically includes local ales and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. They’re particularly good for away games in some northern dive. You know you’ll get decent beer and are unlikely to get glassed by some illiterate peasant than in a locals pub.5
