Only because the fouled player kicked the ball against Semenyo, no?Clem_Snide said:

Helps when you get 5 pens a tournament cos you got the selling point.Sword65pf said:

Spain yes. Not having Argentina at all.Sword65pf said:

Well Spain drew against shit and lost their opener when they won it. Argentina lost against Saudi and won it.Kindoncasella said:
How do you quantify that?ValleyGary said:Learn more from this than anything else. He’s better than Southgate, just gotta roll with the punches. The reaction doesn’t level the outcome. If anything Tuchel will learn more. When he won the CL with Chelsea I know they didn’t win convincing every single game.
Argentina in 2022 are the worst team to ever win a World Cup without doubt.
Anyway, wake up call, should still win the group, then the serious shit starts.8 -

Never seen Matt Godden miss the target from such a golden opportunity as Kane did. I mean that as a serious observation as well.2

Ghana played for the pont they needed to qualify for the knockout rounds, I don't blame them for that at all, they defended very well. I've no issue with how England played. I'd have loved us to win by 2 or 3 goals, but it wasn't to be. Tournament's aren't won in the second game, the way Tuchel has us set up to play we'll improve against better/proactive opposition once we hit the knockout rounds. That's when we'll see what we are all about. I'm happier watching us now than under Southgate.6

And why I hate modern football. There will be some out there creaming themselves on what a great defensive display Ghana put in. Awful performances by both sides.killerandflash said:Excellent defensive performance by Ghana, and they could have nicked something on the break. Nathan Jones would have played it exactly the same way.3 -
It’s all very well saying that it was tough because Ghana played a low block, were defensively organised etc. A team with the potential to be Champions would have beaten them. Argentina would have got the win. France would have got the win. Spain would quite probably have got a 0-0 like us.
This tournament will be won by either France or Argentina. Germany are the best shout as outsiders.1 -
I was disappointed with the starting full backs, as when you have inverted wingers who like to cut inside, you want your full back to overlap and provide the width.
Spence had the excuse of being on his wrong side, and having to be careful of Semenyo, but James should surely have got forward more. It's as if because he plays defensive midfield a lot now, that he's forgotten how to run down the wing and cross.1 -

After an impressive 4-2 win over Croatia, can it be followed up against Ghana?
Both teams on three points after one game played so the winner of tomorrow’s game would confirm their qualification for the round of 32.
An England win paired with a Croatia win over Panama will confirm England top the group with a game to spare.
No

Tactics all wrong. Play it like a cup-tie where you are losing with 5 mins to play. Long ball after long ball. Get the ball into the box asap and aim for knock downs, corners and defensive mistakes. None of this pass, pass, pass malarkey.
But we have qualified already. 4 points will be enough, even if it's one of the 8 best 3rd place teams.0 -
Reminds me of that old joke about drinking Canada Dry.fenlandaddick said:Drunk my cellar dry and they couldn't win.Sack the manager 😉0 -
Konsa might be losing his starting spot after today. He was really poor against Croatia and almost gifts Ghana a penalty today. Once you get to final 16, the difference between winning and losing can be in the fine margins and he seems too mistake prone to risk it.2

That’s eight group stage goalless draws in 13 major tournament appearances since the turn of the century. Six in the last seven major tournaments since 2014.

Poor, poor performance after all the hype. Spent a lot of money to be here and felt empty at the result. Prefer watching Charlton come rain or shine with my mates tbh

Are you going to any other games? What's the atmosphere like out there? I will be allowed a 6 week sabbatical in a few years time and think I might do the world cup in Spain.Weegie Addick said:Poor, poor performance after all the hype. Eze was very poor, don’t get the hype with him.3

Seems I wasn't too far off after all was I...🤦♂️
1-1, banana skin...🙄0 -
2002 World Cup was the last time a team won all three Group Games and went on to lift the trophy.4

Agree don't really see what he offers England surprised he was picked ahead of Gibbs-White, Foden or Palmerrobroy said:Eze was very poor, don’t get the hype with him.0 -

Foden has done absolutely nothing to warrant a place in this squad.BigRedEvil said:

In hindsight the defensive moments involving Pickford and Konsa are more concerning than our inability to win. If we get to the KO's then the majority of teams we face are going to be just as attacking as ourselves, especially if we get to the stage where we're facing France / Argentina / Spain... and we went toe to toe with France, and lost by a penalty miss, so I dont expect us to simply wilt the moment we come up against a decent team, just because we cant beat Ghana. We've got enough pace ourselves as we showed against Croatia to give them something to think about, but its the other big side giving us something to worry defensively about too, that is the problem, but we'll deal with that if and when we get there... The downside is we're currently up against Cabo Verde in the RO32 so would expect a repeat of last night if that match up stays the same2

That is Argentina’s starting team in the final - apart from Messi, it’s really not that impressive.2 -
What is your point? Kane is the best striker in the world, but that doesn’t mean he’ll score every single chance he gets.LittleAddick said:Never seen Matt Godden miss the target from such a golden opportunity as Kane did. I mean that as a serious observation as well.4 -
Good angle of the incident that Pickford "got away with"

How do you think one of the third placed sides (if we win the group) will set up against us then?fenaddick said:Have to remember that knockout games won’t be like this. It won’t be a low block for 120 minutes+2 -
Or Mexico in a potental R32 at Azteca? Also what happens if we concede early against a top team?Chris_from_Sidcup said:

We need to learn how to break down teams who sit back. Luckily we get another crack at one this week1 -
We're still looking suspect at the back, a better team will take advantage of that.0
-
I’ve already mentioned it but I don’t think a team will be able to execute it for a full 120 minutes. It might be a frustrating watch but we’d get chances in the last 10 (as we did last night) and in extra time tooChris_from_Sidcup said:

Its the whole point of being low margin.
Defend narrow and compact, restrict space congest the dangerous areas of the pitch. Ghana had some players who were capable of giving us something to think about. Then it takes a centre half to slip, a header to be missed on a set piece and its going to be a legitimate nightmare. We have strong, fast players who were picked to go at teams, run behind, give options for Bellingham and Kane to pass to.
Honestly, I'm not the most positive football fan and that was a boring game to watch last night but it was not anywhere near as bad as is being made out this morning3
