Ona previous visit to Birmingham they attacked us exiting the ground and the police just watched and did absolutely nothing.

We then had a double decker bus lined up to take us to Birmingham International Train Station (I think) and they attacked us on that as well.

Last time I went they were all coming over the fences/hoardings on to the pitch to get at us.

    I won't be rushing back.
Which year was that? I know you'll have been a lot.

The only trouble I've come close to was some oiks hiding behind railway bridges in 2013 or 14. I wasn't there in '98 when I know coaches got bricked.
'98 was pretty bad afterwards as we'd cost them the playoffs. That was when they bussed us directly to Brum International.

In '96 we won 4 3 there on the telly and I think it was a Junior Reds coach that got attacked.

It was also a good job we rolled over on the last day in '93 to keep them up or you shudder to think what it'd have been like afterwards.
    But other than these occasions......

Not underestimating what people went through, but the most recent of those incidents was 27 years ago.
I've been to St Andrews twice more recently, and don't remember any trouble at all.

Have drunk in pubs in the city centre, Digbeth, and behind the Tilton Road end, used a broad cockney accent every time, walked/ bowled to and from the ground alone and with group of lads 20 years younger than me and NEVER had any trouble. Sometimes you just have to show confidence and hey presto, the world is a better place. I may have dreamt some of that, memory fades, but i have definitely been there lots and escaped to tell the tale.

I can't remember, but I think the poster above sounds right.

We won’t sell out every away allocation this season and that will be the case from now until the end but from where i was standing today at St Andrews it looked like a cracking turnout and the fans in it made one hell of a noise

Looked and sounded the same from the stream too, barely heard a peep from the home fans but lots of Charlton coming through

It felt like 1500-1700, which is still very good by our past standards.
  • I was expecting to see swathes of empty seats going by some previous comments but it looked a great turnout by us.

We had 3 blocks, QM2 was basically sold out, QM3 about 2/3 sold and the smaller corner one QM1 almost untouched. Everyone standing up hides empty seats, but i agree it looked a much better turnout than I their was going to be

Glad everyone who went got some reward.

No issues at all after the game, we all exited at the same time and walked back to the centre together.

Indeed I thought there was more aggro from the Coventry fans 2 weeks ago.
  • Always one of my favourite grounds. Atmosphere was decent in both ends. Nice straightforward walk back to the city centre without needing to rush off after the final whistle. Plenty of time to sort food/drink out before getting the 6:17 train back.

First time I went up there was the 79-80 season (we finished bottom of the league) doubt we had more then 400 up there that day.

I like their fans, maybe I am naive, but I have never had issues with them and always found them to be passionate, social fans.

Good luck to them, they've struck gold with their ambitious owners.

Perhaps they generally have better behaved fans in the last 20 years.
Mind you there were plenty of little kids (under 12) shouting dog's abuse at our players yesterday (first time I've noticed it this season).

Bristol C fans were also as good as gold this season, whereas some previous games with them have been like the wild west.

wasn't very hostile at all tbh - they did have Mike Reid doing the announcements at the station after the game though - 'runaround now !!!' a good work out going from one platform change to another - was more like an airport than a station

I just think football has changed, I have never really seen any football violence in 26 years or so of going games.

The most violence I have seen to date was from Shrewsbury fans ffs.

    Long may it continue.

The pre match music was eclectic to say the least - ELO’s Mr Blue Sky, Chim-Chimeny and Hey Jude before they even got to KRO.

Well ELO are a Brum band and the title of the track contains a clue and I assume Chim-Chimeny is in relation to their dislike of Villa.

    ELO are a Birmingham band.
Birmingham FC have a history of chimneys ie their new stadium design.
Hey Jude is just a song to whip them all up and sing along to.

I said it was eclectic, not that I didn’t understand it.

Hey Jude refers to Jude Bellingham, it’s not ‘just a song to whip them all up and sing along to’ 🤣

I really like the DJ stuff they do before KO there, though I suspect as a home fan once the novelty wears off it probably has more effect of getting the away fans up for it.

Hey Jude is played at grounds up and down the country to build atmosphere. It was probably played at St Andrews before Bellingham had ever kicked a ball

When i think of Birmingham, ska music and similar (i know the specials were from Coventry and madness from London so even thats tenuous)) is about the only thing i can think of that they would be proud of giving to the rest of the country / world - i know there will be loads of other things - must be loads but they don't instantly spring to mind - Cadburys maybe ?
