Was he that bad for us ?

    Yes.

    How long did he last?

Besides, I thought he was involved heavily with the MD of the Mount Pleasant FA.
And what did he did with us that was so bad ? I’m just interested. Perhaps I completely missed it ?

Oversaw the lowest position in our history for a start.
And that was his fault ? Come on. The club was rotten to the core when he/they took over . It takes more than a few months to sort that out and thankfully they did and pretty quickly when you think about it.

The way I saw it, and I could be very wrong here.
The owners came over in January and had seen enough so started to get more involved.
If Methven was any good he'd still be with us.
I never said he was any good. My question was he THAT bad ? I can think of several people who got involved with the club in the last ten years that make Methvan look like a genius.

Of course if you are to compare him to the likes of peanut head then he was fantastic.
However, I can only say that he'd still be in a job if the owners thought he was upto it.
I wonder how much longer he'll be with Mount Pleasant IF he ends up with Wednesday.  He does not tend to stick around long in positions.
Personally if he gets involved in Sheff Wed I hope he crashes and burns but I’m just puzzled as to what did wrong at Charlton . Wasn’t he involved in bringing in the investors we have now ?
I know he looked a twat on Sunderland til I die and he dresses like a posh 7 year old going to a kids party but I’ve still not heard anything that he did at Charlton that makes him that bad ?

I can only repeat what I have said mate, sorry.

The question is if he was not bad, why did the owners feel the need to move him on/stop him moving on (whatever version of events you believe)

Charlie Methven is the former Executive Director of Sunderland AFC and CEO of Charlton Athletic FC. A former national newspaper columnist with the Daily Telegraph and Marcomms Agency chairman, Methven's career in football started with Advisory roles at Arsenal, Oxford United and Tottenham Hotspur. He moved in to football's C-Suite world at Sunderland between 2018 and 2022, and Charlton from July 2023 to March 2025, before stepping down to accept a new role running Mount Pleasant FA, the leading club in the Caribbean region with a large residential elite academy. Outside of football, Methven has also been an adviser to McLaren F1, the Jockey Club, the Bahrain Grand Prix and the government of Qatar in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup.

    *****
These advisory roles do spruce up a CV, was he asked a question and gave an answer?!!!!!

    That’s exactly the question I’m asking . Why ?

I find it very hard to believe that a country with as much money as Qatar, who could probably afford to pay anyone anything, scoured the world looking for advice on the 2022 World Cup and the man they decided to ask was Charlie Methven.

Surely with Wednesday it would be a similar thing to us , he'll front a consortium probably bring Rodwell with him and the money would be in the background

I think he could be both bad a good. Maybe he was ousted because he was shit, he semed shit at Sunderland but if he was never involved with us or them, would we be in the position we are in now. Would we have these owners without him?

I think he tried to convince our new owners that he could get us promoted on the cheap and that he could reduce our running costs to a minimum.
Once they realised he was talking bollox they got rid of him.
Like  ElfsborgAddick said if the owners thought he was doing a good job  they would have kept him on.

Could also apply to about 15 managers from our past.

You asked a question and you got an answer you didn't want.

If you wanted an explanation or more information you could have asked or just read the very long thread about him or even just asked yourself why he's no longer with us.

He was entertaining guests at the club’s expense after many/most home games and ran up four figure bar bills on each occasion (allegedly).

He also said to the owners & anyone that heard that
