Don't know what to make of this from a Sussex perspective. We do lack top order experience but Leaning hasn't impressed me at all from what I've seen of him for Kent. Probably will bat 5 with Tom Clark at 3 and James Coles at 4.Addick Addict said:Jack Leaning is joining Sussex "by mutual consent"

3 year contract is a major surprise too. A useful white ball player with his bowling as well, but after his average red ball performances for a Div 2 struggler, it's hard to see how he can improve a team that finished 4th in Div 1!1

Our top order is Swiss cheese. A lot of young players with buckets of potential but lacking an experienced county head that could come in at 30/3 or something and grind out a knock. John Simpson seems to be the player that can do that for us.killerandflash said:https://sussexcricket.co.uk/news/sussex-sign-jack-leaning-three-year-deal

Not convinced Leaning is that man nor do I see where he fits into our white ball setup either where I'd rather develop Oli Carter or Charlie Tear.0

With the advent of Jaydn, Ekansh and Dawkins, we were over burdened with batters who might serve as "blockers" to their development. That's not to say that those youngsters deserve a starting spot when everyone is available (Crawley, Compton, Northeast, Muyeye, DBD, Evison & Finch likely to be the initial top seven) but having Leaning and Joe would have made things even more complicated.
Their departure/change of role also means that some money has been freed up because the contracts that the three youngsters are on will be at the lower end of the scale by comparison.0

Leaning definitely isn’t that man! I genuinely think this is a sensational bit of business from the Kent hierarchy/ Leaning’s agentMarcusH26 said:

I thought we'd moved away from this type of singing tbh, most of our moves from other counties have been on the younger side with Tom Price and Dom Goodman coming in from Gloucestershirefenaddick said:

We've brought Danny Briggs back for T20 which I understand, he's the leading wicket taker in the format and a great mentor for our younger spinners. But Leaning feels like a 2020 Sussex signing when we were signing older county pros on long deals that just didn't work out.0

We still have in "limbo" Crawley, Billings, Cohen, Quinn and Klaassen and also the need to find at least another three seamers (including an overseas and depending on whether we extend the contracts of Cohen, Quinn or Klaassen) plus a second spinner.0

Jack leaning, a player who flattered to deceive. Blows hot and cold, more so cold. Not been a fan of his for a good few years now and a move is probably best for both parties. His agent has played a blinder getting a 3 year deal out of Sussex0

A Rookie contract is a Pro contract. It is one that is banded so far as salary is concerned and funded by the ECB. It is the first professional contract for a youngster not automatically given a full contract.fenaddick said:Pro deal for Curtiss, despite the fact the link and photo say rookie
