He looks most dangerous to me when he comes on as a sub. Has that sort of 'Aneke' effect on the crowd as everyone gets a lift, and he's better when the game is stretched.SheedyCAFC said:

Gillesphey will get the blame, but Apter underhit the pass to him with 3 players ready to pounce on Gillesphey. Coventry was a big miss there in terms of us being able to play out with simple passes, but I think in general we should go long more oftenLeaburn wins most of his headers, if he’s on the pitch I think we need to go long to him more than we do at the moment, and cross the ball into him more. Yeah I definitely agree, but he still wins most of the long balls that go up to him, so it’s a waste not using him in that way too. Especially when we’re struggling to play it out from the back, think we should have done more of going direct to Leaburn and playing off him, landing on second balls etcSheedyCAFC said:

He’s in the top 10% of championship strikers for % of aerial duels won this season, he’s got much better at that side of the game.2 -
It wasn't the best game in terms of quality. Our passing was wasteful at times, and it was almost like the pitch was too big for us, so we couldn't play our normal game.
Surely the coaching staff have clocked TC's hesitancy in front of goal. He doesn't shoot with conviction, and neither does he appear to have made any progress in this area in the past three seasons. Love him in all other aspects, but there is a glaring deficiency there.
Testament to the squad that we can make that amount of changes and still get a result. Doch showed he can cover Cov's role and the team doesn't fall apart. Although Knibbs didn't convince in his role, but hey ho, they didn't overrun us or anything.
We've been in every game so far and we clearly have the foundations to do well in this league.5 -

I don’t think we are normally prime Barcelona in possession but it’s obvious we don’t have a Cov back up . Should be a priorityChunes said:It wasn't the best game in terms of quality. He definitely hit one of his chances with some conviction, keeper pulled off an unbelievable save and TC couldn’t have done much more with a strike on his weak footChunes said:It wasn't the best game in terms of quality. This game was one of the frustrating ones for TC though, he was our biggest threat which gets him the chances where others wouldn’t, but then he frustratingly doesn’t take them.I thought it had clicked with him at the end of last season, where he started placing his shots far better than he had before. Think the step up makes that just a bit harder as defenders and keepers are much better at this level9 -
I read it as I have shut them up. WIth them being the Hull fans.Stuart_the_Red said:

To be honest TC is not and never will be a striker, I’d rather see him just improve his end product and concentrate on being the best winger he can be. Is he buckling a bit in front of goal due to an expectation to score?.5
-
I agree with the first chance, but it's hard to appear as though you lack conviction when you're that close to the goal - that would be a catastrophic failure. I thought he did well enough, there. It's just an ongoing thing. He gets into a great position, and then when it's time to shoot, his body language changes. It's almost like he doesn't want the chance, and he lapses into 'Well, I'll hit this and see what happens' thinking. He leans back and swings a leg at the ball with more hope than intent.NabySarr said:

It seems like more of a mentality issue than a technical one.1 -

Did well with the first chance. Keeper made a good save. Does put the wind up opponents but agree his composure is an area to improve on. He is a young player and every chance he will IMO.1
-
Yes I agree, hoping that doesn’t become a problem. Unless the formation changes which isn’t going to happen. In which case people are going to have to accept he isn’t going to put away as many chances as they would like.wmcf123 said:

He isn’t really playing as a striker though, his heat map from the season shows that.wmcf123 said:

Yes,To be fair he has improved since the season before last, hoping he improves that much again which is more of a challenge in the championship. But seeing what better players do whilst playing against them could help. Ultimately it’s down to him to do the hard work because he has the full backing of the manager.MuttleyCAFC said:Did well with the first chance. Keeper made a good save. I agree. The more I watch the goal back Apter is chief culprit for their goal. He has a safer out ball option up the line, or enough space to run inside with the ball but instead passes it to MG who is in a more dangerous area, and, as you say has players surrounding him.NabySarr said:Frustration for me is that like the first half and against Ipswich, we were overplaying it at the back yesterday and this time it cost us. I read that Apter was frustrated at being subbed off but he can't have any complaints after that error, and we retained possession much better right side when Bree came on.4 -
Yeah, we did. But it's a bit of an overstatement to say we're screwed without him. We competed away from home against a good side and on balance, should have won. It's good to know he can be rested and we don't completely fall apart.Leuth said:

To be honest, TC couldn't have hit his first chance any better, the keeper just got lucky and tipped it round the post, the second one was a bit sloppy must be said...7

It was interesting that NJ kept Miles and TC on for the whole game. When Hermandez came on late on, he played on the right and Carey came off instead of TC.1

Looking back on the changes made .. would have been better Costello in place of Coventry which would have left Doc and Carey in their normal roles .. Apter for Bree was correct althrough he could have played Burke with Ramsey pushed up on the right which would have allowed Apter to play in place of Campbell , but bringing in Campbell and Leaburn did not work .. could also have played Knibbs in Campbell role and left Olaofe who only played one game up front if he really needed to rest Kelman .. ….i think NJ got away with it yesterday

I’d prefer TC and Miles on as subs during the second half, Tanto and Kelman starting.RonnieMoore said:Looking back on the changes made .. would have been better Costello in place of Coventry which would have left Doc and Carey in their normal roles .. Didn't Apter give it away for a goal at QPR too? For all the initial excitement and clamour around him, maybe it's this naivety in his play that's stopped NJ from using him as much recentlyKips said:

There's a few Hull fans on BBC complaining about the Hull fans giving Bree grief for corners. Apparently fans in that part of ground do it every game to away players and other Hull fans are fed up with it.O-Randy-Hunt said:

I thought his one on target was a very good save from their keeper. Not sure we can say “there’s no end product” given the assists he gets. I do agree he’s not a centre forward though.Sword65pf said:To be honest TC is not and never will be a striker, I’d rather see him just improve his end product and concentrate on being the best winger he can be. I did enjoy the little hug between NJ and Sergej Jakirovic at the end. Plenty of mutual respect there. Hull and Alicali have somehow unearthed a gem3

Good spot with the Apter pass Covered End, it certainly put Gillesphey under pressure, it's those moments that Apter needs to handle a little bit better.Covered End said:I thought we were a bit fortunate to sneek the added time equaliser, although it was down to Nathan Jones' tactics and subs, so a very well done to him.
The players were clearly struggling second half, as they were at Preston.
So to battle on and nick a point deserves full credit.
I thought Ramsay and Jones played well at the back and Carey was our main threat and our MOM.
Knibbs was anonymous, I only noticed him when he was on the deck.
Apter gave Gilly a poor pass for their goal and then gave it away soon after before being hooked.
Coventry was quite instrumental when he came on and did well.
Tyreece reminds me of Lisbie.
He nearly scores or assists a number of times a game, but rarely actually does.
He's so frustrating, but he has to play some part for his threat.
Leaburn looked sluggish once again.
Kaminski, Docherty and Bell were fine and Gillesphey would have been if he had cleared Apter's poor pass, instead of gifting Hull a goal.
Tough gig is the right hand side wing back in this side. You don't have the luxury of TC tracking back and sharing the load a bit so you have so much more ground to cover.
A big ask for a youngster playing up a level at a brand new club.
Apter is a talented young footballer with skillful feet in an attacking role. I know memories are short on CL but he was excellent against Watford on his debut and I said after that first game he will get exposed when we are forced to defend especially if Ramsey doesn't play or we are under the cosh for long periods. As soon as I saw his excellent video of his time at Blackpool and it was all about Rob with the ball at his feet going forward I wondered how he would do on a weekly basis in the Championship if required to defend.
The thought that Apter wouldn't even make the squad on match days is a strange one when the lad is one of our best players on the ball in an attacking sense.
I agree the ball to Macca wasn't the best but the fans favourite (other than the Millwall game !) Ramsay gave a shocker of a pass but he and his defensive colleges just about cleared the ball with blocks.
Bree who may not be here in January has used all his experience to have the best spell of his career with goals and assists.
Knibbs, Apter and Kelman still have their best days to come at CAFC which is ironic as they were the top 3 expected to do the best in the pre season vote of our new signings ! The ginger genius went under the radar.
