Stupidest CAFC Red Card

In terms of pure player decision-making, what's the stupidest red card we've ever had?

Jayden Stockley away at Burton has to be up there.

Any others?

  • Alex Gilbey getting two yellow cards in the first half for 2 shirt pulls comes to mind

That Wimbledon one is the worst tackle I’ve ever seen live. And one of the worst touches before it too. Dark times

Traores at Upton Park was pretty daft, he was on a yellow and stuck a foot out to stop a quick free kick.

Yann against Forest was poor, Sean Clare against Oxford when we were 3 nil down.

The Alex Gilbey one was utterly unprofessional.
  • Stockley against Pory Vale, got away with it in game and got a retrospective ban

  • Danny Murphy against Arsenal in 2005, Sam Sodje and Deon Burton in same game against Swindon 2009 (surprised never been looked at) and Djimi Traore against West Ham on his debut 2006.

Keeping this conversation balanced that red card vs Palace (in the WSL.2) was pretty stupid (sent off for time wasting)

Always felt something didn't feel quite right with that Sodje one.

Traore for putting his foot Infront of a quick free kick after just getting a yellow

Burton for catching the ball on a yellow

Gilbey for a shirt pull already on a yellow

For me most of these are more stupid than straight reds
  • Danny Mills so he could have xmas with his family.
Could argue that was quite clever and not in fact stupid.  Albeit an arsehole move.

what about one that wasn't given? Kiely almost decapitated Louis Saha who was playing for Fulham, amazingly wasn't sent off and I'm sure he saved the penalty!

I forgot about that one. Must have buried it deep in my mind, along with all the memories of him 'dribbling' the ball and bouncing it off the opponent's shins.

It was McLeod against Northwich Victoria. He got away with it but I think every Charlton fan would have been happy for him to get sent off. Partially because it was a stupid thing to do and he deserved to be punished for it and partially because I'd rather play with 10 men than Izale McLeod

I remember that, I think we were one up at the time and ended up losing the game

I'm sure Ben Thatcher got one very shortly after signing for us, which was itself shortly after he basically committed assault on a Portsmouth player (Pedro Mendes I think?)

Certainly didn't do anything to rehabilitate his image.

Deon Burton in the 2-2 v Swindon, Boxing Day 2009. He was on a yellow already and for some reason stuck his hand up when chasing a ball over the top.

Though we know how that game ended

Paul Miller for spitting at Andy Thorne of Newcastle. Maybe not the most stupidest but certainly the most disgusting
