Naby Sarr sent off after 48 seconds flying into a player on the touchline going nowhere

Ryan Innis has about 5 to pick from
That Wimbledon one is the worst tackle I’ve ever seen live. And one of the worst touches before it too. Dark times
Is that the one he deliberately got sent off so he could have Xmas with us family? He may just be my worst Charlton player of all time

I'm sure Ben Thatcher got one very shortly after signing for us, which was itself shortly after he basically committed assault on a Portsmouth player (Pedro Mendes I think?)

Certainly didn't do anything to rehabilitate his image.
It was away at Blackburn (operation Ewood). A game that we had to win to stand any chance of staying up.

    No that was Danny Mills.

Inniss' assault on the Wimbledon player should have seen him sacked by us. One of the worst tackles I have ever seen.

I think you are being kind to him calling it "a tackle".

Traores at Upton Park was pretty daft, he was on a yellow and stuck a foot out to stop a quick free kick.
I remember that, I think we were one up at the time and ended up losing the game
Am I right in thinking, that was the referee's first game in the premier league? I can't remember his name but can see his face in my mind. I think he was a copper in his normal full time job at the time. Agree about the sending off. Definitely deserved.

No, pretty sure it was Howard Webb who was probably No1 ref at the time.

When I watched the highlights on TV I thought it was pretty harsh as the West Ham player seemed to deliberately kick the ball straight at him. In retrospect though he was guilty of not getting out the way if nothing else. Shame that, although it must be 15 years ago or more I get the impression looking back we were well on top and the time. My memory might be playing tricks though.

We'd taken the lead and had settled down, it all went downhill after the red. It was possibly a bit harsh as it was an almost instinctive reaction, but Traores reputation for being a bit accident prone seemed to have travelled with him intact.

It was a well earned reputation, he was a professional fuck up merchant

That west ham red killed us that day and in real time I remember saying under my breath "what are you doing you div, you're on a yellow" he has plenty of time to get out of the way. Bowyer then ran us absolutely ragged

    It was brainless

Ones for rush of blood tackles I can forgive, I've done tons of them given that my second touch generally involved a tackle and how bad that tackle was depended on how far away my first touch took the ball. Stupid for professionals but I empathise

Chris Sollys at the scum is one of the most unjust I've ever seen

Danny Murphy bouncing the ball like the massively over inflated mincer he was,  against arsenal was top level dumb as much as I think it shouldn't have been a booking

Lyle Taylor did a stupid one against Fleetwood or Accrington can't remember who, he kicked their keeper, as much as their keeper deserved to be kicked in the face he did it in full view

Im going to stick with recent years and its a toss up of 2 Inniss red cards,

    1) Wimbledon away and i dont think i have to say much more, probably shouldnt have played for us after.

    2) Also one at home (forget who it was against) he was on a yellow and we were chasing the game, we got a free kick and he was attacking the back post, not a great ball and he had zero chance of winning it so he decided just to clatter through the back of the defender for no reason then acted shocked when he got the second yellow. In some ways worse than the wimbledon one at least you can argue that was cruel, calculated or just terrible tackling, the one mentioned here was more just a purely stupid decision.

Special mention for one that wasnt red but should have been - Harry Isted at home (again cant remember who) but the attacker picked up the ball behing our defence but was over towards the east stand closer to the corner flag if anything, Isted makes a monunentually stupid decision to run 20 yards out of his goal and then do a thigh high challenge on the attacker. Should have been a red for both last man and the state of the tackle, ref only gave a foul i think.

I don’t recall Stocks at Burton. What did he do again?

Him and and a Burton defender (sure it was Oshilaja) decided to start wrestling when the ball was about 30 yards away from them. Both sent off so at least he took one with him

I might be misremembering but it wasn't that bad was it? One of those the ref could've just booked both.

Paul Miller for spitting at Andy Thorne of Newcastle. Maybe not the most stupidest but certainly the most disgusting
Didn't Pardew get sent off for the same thing against Bristol City away one year?

    Yeah, it was Oshilaja.

I remember Stockley was in the studio with Scott Minto for the next game, and JJ gave him a rolicking on live TV. Brilliant.
  • Steve Brown vs Leicester. Full length dive like a goalie. Got injured. Carried off. Red card on the way.
Cue the mass pamphlet throwing session. Hilarious.

This is from the Liverpool songbook, pretty funny as football songs go

To the tune of Blame It On The Boogie

Don’t blame it on the Biscan, Don’t blame it on the Hamann,

Don’t blame it on the Finnan, Blame it on Traore,

He just can’t, he just can’t, he just can’t control his feet...

Didn't Chris Solly get a red and sent off for a handball against Millwall in the area.  Seemed (to me) at the time he put his hands up in front of his face for protection but the ref deemed it deliberate handball?  Memory might be a bit dodgy!

Bartlett's one against Tottenham was annoying. Saved a goalbound shot on the line on the 68th minute with us 3-0 up. Spurs scored the penalty anyway and we were down to 10. The game completely shifted and we ended up just scraping by 3-2 when with 11 men Spurs would never have got back into it even with the goal

Sam Sodje and Deon Burton in the same game was so suspect, especially Burton's.

Just having Gilbert,Inniss and Stockley mentioned in first few posts shows how far we have come in a short space of time.
    Thank you Nathan
