Afternoon all. Coming up on 11 years a member and about to make my 3rd post, so hoping this won't count as spam. I'm part of the group trying to get The White Swan in Charlton Village out of its current state and into community ownership. A pipe dream possibly, but we're giving it a go. You can read more here if you are curious: https://www.whiteswanmusicandarts.org/.

As part of our pre-crowdfunding efforts, we're shooting a promotional video, and we're looking to get a crowd outside the Swan at midday this Saturday, for - I think - what will be the final shoot of the video. Be great to see some lifers there!

Followed the web link and this looks fantastic. What is the video to be used for Paul? I get it's promotional but where will it go exactly and what are the role play expectations if any?

Used to love The Standard when I worked at Belvedere nick.

Anyone know of decent pubs/restaurants in and around Paddington Station?
When I'm over in November my bestie is jumping on the rattler from Cardiff to spend the day with me. I'd like to say we'll go shopping/sightseeing but realistically we'll find a pub & stay there jibber jabbering so might as well make it a good un 😉 😜

Loads of crap pubs in that area - the sort that makes you wonder how they survive when others closed down.

But the Swan (https://www.swanhydepark.co.uk) and the Victoria (https://www.victoriapaddington.co.uk) are both good pubs within a 10 min walk of Paddington station. Both Fullers pubs too, so decent food too.

    Brilliant @Off_it thank you
I’d already earmarked the Victoria but I see it gets busy so wanted a few alternatives. I see the Monkey Puzzle gets good reviews too, have you been in there?
I know where it is, but am pretty certain I've never been in there (I know, amazing!). I'm always a bit wary of pubs under blocks of flats, which probably says more about my upbringing in Loosham!, although round that neck of the woods it's probably fine.

And yes, the Victoria can get pretty busy, mainly due to the layout in there and it not being the biggest, so getting a table on a walk-in might be difficult.

There's also the Mitre  (https://www.themitrehydepark.com/), which is near the Swan and is a proper good looking corner pub tucked away off the beaten track a bit, and it's Youngs too, so pretty female friendly and decent food, etc. Enjoy!
    Is the harcourt still open?
The pub shut. There was talk of it being converted into housing, then it got bought and a lot of dough got spent on it turning it into some sort of wine bar/restaurant. But I don't think it did too well cos the last time I heard it had shut again.

What a shame. Was a great pub. The Windsor Castle round the corner has gone as well.
Was that the estate type boozer? Never gonna stand the test of time in that manor.

Cheers Swords. The video is to kick off a crowdfunding effort. The website has details but basically there are 3 parts of raising the funds to buy the building, and a crowdfunding effort is one of them. May even be a local legend or two in the vid! The video would feature all over our socials and on the website. We did the first half of filming last week in the Pelton, another great boozer. Not sure what you mean about role play?

Hi. I think this was directed to me? We haven't contacted the club yet, but they are firmly in our plans (the initial contact is one of my tasks and I want to wait till the video is out so we are less of an unknown quantity). Haven't contacted CACT. We have good relations with the excellent team at the Museum. All ideas for people to contact welcome!

I'm out the night before for my birthday but I will make my utmost effort to be there. I performed there when we had the black & white roland out day so would love to support. Since then my new band have gone and done the TC song and supported some of our biggest idols. Anyway enough about me... if this goes to plan and you get it back open, we'd love to support with a gig or anyway possible. Miss this boozer and would be great on match days especially now crowds have got bigger at The Valley.

Sounds like you are exactly the sort of person we want back at the Swan when it's (fingers crossed) even more focussed on Music that it already was! Hope the birthday goes well mate. If you can remember it, you weren't really there...

I'm hearing good reports of the new Wetherspoons at London Bridge station, can anybody confirm.
Apparantly, given the area and a station spoons being not as cheap as in the high street, it is reasonably priced.

Isn’t it in the old London dungeons?
Not sure how you tell between the old  exhibits and the clientele.

Only been in The Shipwrights about twice but thought it was a great boozer, although will swerve it now as it has a spoons as a neighbour.

I popped in 11 days ago, Saturday about 17.30.
It was rammo and I wasn't keen enough to queue for a beer and all the seats were taken, so no ordering from your table.

It felt very cramped, what with the number of people and the low ceilings.
It felt like what it was, a pub crammed under a rail station.

I can imagine it will always be packed out with the prime location.

I don't mind The Shipwrights, proper boozer (including the moody landlady that all good boozers should have!). Borough Market is great but if you just want a reasonably quiet drink then it does the job.

Went in there yesterday managed to get a seat (for 4 of us) at 3pm and stayed till about 5pm by which time it was pretty packed...lots of Palace fans in there by the time we left. OK place to meet and ales priced from 3.99 (Doombar) up to around 5.50 for certain guest ales. Strange that they didn't/or have yet to make more of the fact it was previously the London Dungeon....not that I was to bothered about that but my niece (she's big into halloween and stuff like that) did point it out.
