When I saw the Plough and Harrow Welling:
I expected them to announce Macauley Bonne's signing.8 -
Went in there a few times (Mrs H lived in Lewisham when I first met her in 87).....can't recall when it closed/got demolished?ElfsborgAddick said:Alicanteaddicks said:

Also in Eltham; the Bankers Draft has finally closed. It kicked off last week, turns out Gary is a massive creep.
Also the Man Of Kent opposite. And the Greyhound further down the high street.
Does anybody remember the Man of Kent outside Lewisham station before the DLR was built?0 -
The same pub co that have made a success of the Star in Plumstead and the Abbey Arms have now taken on the above mentioned Plough. Think it reopened only this weekend. They have also taken on the Standard in Nuxley Village. Not been in yet so don’t know what that is like. But fair play to them for keeping open the pubs. Owned by a localish family I believe.
I love what they’ve done to Star. In fact I’ll think I’ll pop round for one!8 -
Used to love The Standard when I worked at Belvedere nick.
Anyone know of decent pubs/restaurants in and around Paddington Station?
When I'm over in November my bestie is jumping on the rattler from Cardiff to spend the day with me. I'd like to say we'll go shopping/sightseeing but realistically we'll find a pub & stay there jibber jabbering so might as well make it a good un 😉 😜1 -
Correct, re-opened this weekend and has been completely changed inside and out. It will be a lot nicer than ever with it being properly run compared to the previous landlords and also will change the type of clientele and hopefully become a great local next to the rail station.Curb_It said:The same pub co that have made a success of the Star in Plumstead and the Abbey Arms have now taken on the above mentioned Plough. A bit is a very light way of saying it. Lets just say if they allowed witnesses and if people knew about this court case there would have been a lot more that would have came out and regarding his comments on why it was installed, his behaviour and so much more. Just glad the pub has got a new lease of life under someone who will change it for the better and not been turned into flats.ElfsborgAddick said:clive said:Plough and Harrow pub Welling:

Loads of crap pubs in that area - the sort that makes you wonder how they survive when others closed down.
But the Swan (https://www.swanhydepark.co.uk) and the Victoria (https://www.victoriapaddington.co.uk) are both good pubs within a 10 min walk of Paddington station. Both Fullers pubs too, so decent food too.

I know where it is, but am pretty certain I've never been in there (I know, amazing!). I'm always a bit wary of pubs under blocks of flats, which probably says more about my upbringing in Loosham!, although round that neck of the woods it's probably fine.KBslittlesis said:

And yes, the Victoria can get pretty busy, mainly due to the layout in there and it not being the biggest, so getting a table on a walk-in might be difficult.
There's also the Mitre (https://www.themitrehydepark.com/), which is near the Swan and is a proper good looking corner pub tucked away off the beaten track a bit, and it's Youngs too, so pretty female friendly and decent food, etc. Enjoy!2 -

I tend to avoid Greene King pubs if I can. I don't like the beer for starters, but I find they can be very hit and miss in terms of the standards and clientele.guinnessaddick said:

lol I used to frequent a pub on Vauxhall Bridge Road under some flats that looks very similar. It was great. Just had a look on Google and it’s called the Victoria Circle and only sells coffee and cakes! I can’t even remember the name of it now! I hate change! 😫🫣🤣🤣LOff_it said:

The Victoria has a wood panelled dining room upstairs for bookings, not huge but very nice. You can get lucky just turning up, but it does get very busy downstairs. Seem to remember The Swan is a bit bigger, I went past it last week (on the way to The Vic) and they had a covered area outside at the front as well, lot of people tucking in.1

The pub shut. There was talk of it being converted into housing, then it got bought and a lot of dough got spent on it turning it into some sort of wine bar/restaurant. But I don't think it did too well cos the last time I heard it had shut again.stop_shouting said:

What a shame. Was a great pub. The Windsor Castle round the corner has gone as well.0 -
Drove up to West Kingsdown this morning and noticed the Game Cock has closed and been put up for sale. That leaves the Portabello which has attempted to to ‘posh up’ by being painted a sort of teal colour. It’s also binned the shellfish stall in the car park and upgraded to kebab.1

Probably old news to many, but the Long Dog micropub in Dartford looked very closed when I walked past just now (post piled up, remains of bailiff notice on door).
Popped in the Dartford working men’s club the other day brandishing my Camra card - glad I did, the ales are cracking and all about £4.2 -

Afternoon all. Coming up on 11 years a member and about to make my 3rd post, so hoping this won't count as spam. I'm part of the group trying to get The White Swan in Charlton Village out of its current state and into community ownership. A pipe dream possibly, but we're giving it a go. You can read more here if you are curious: https://www.whiteswanmusicandarts.org/.
As part of our pre-crowdfunding efforts, we're shooting a promotional video, and we're looking to get a crowd outside the Swan at midday this Saturday, for - I think - what will be the final shoot of the video. Be great to see some lifers there!

Yes that’s a massive loss. May have to be sold as a pub if they don’t get planning permission but one of the best pubs round here.BassAddick said:And The Chequers in Farningham gone2
