Was one of the most intense players I saw in a Charlton shirt , absolute focus.

Still his transfer to Leeds after Prem relegation helped us build the side that took us back the following season.1 -

Good interview to be fair.
Being a professional footballer does sound like an enjoyable life.
Edit: He talks about Charlton0 -

Great left foot, I don't know what it is with left footed players and having a really nice technique.
Agree, he wasn't in Powells league as a full back but decent going forwards and best position was in front of the back 45 -

Was a kid then but do remember his point, play well one week get dropped the next. Great player tho0

Was a big Konchesky fan as a kid.
Turned out to be quite a goal threat for us, even though he preferred himself as a left back.Scored great goals against Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool.2 - Sponsored links:

If you read Garry Nelsons first book, then you very much get the idea that Curbs was not a bloke that you got on the wrong side of. Konchesky gave the impression that he'd given Curbs plenty of attitude, which whilst understandable was probably not the best approach.0
-
Based on what Paul said here.
Andy Todd and Scott Parker sound worse than what was assumed.
Being a professional football manager sounds like a bloody hard job. You have to be tough - and curbs was good at it.
It is a bit of a shame curbs and Konchesky had a rift. I'm surprised it carried on at west ham seen as they're both west ham fans.0 -

To me this is where he could have made the appearances with being versatile as well, to me he was a similar player to Stuart Pearce.

Did anybody count how many times he said "I just wanted to play football".I would have him in my 25 man squad of players since I first started going. He came across as a nice bloke as well.0

His comments about Curbishley were very naive, he was pissed off because the club wouldn't sell him and Scott Parker to Sunderland!
Christ on a bike, why would we sell our best young players to a rival club unless the money was too good to refuse?
Both players were England internationals, as if the club is going to just hand them over to Sunderland on a plate!
I thought his description of Parker's behaviour to force a move was disgraceful, what a shocking way to behave and you have no doubt that Parker would go radio rental if one of HIS players did that.7 -

I think a lot of managers have a lot to answer for as well, they don't fancy a player, they are under pressure to get them out. Jon Parkins attitude was to get his contract paid up or be disruptive as possible in training. He was capable of scoring some absolute bangers as he did against us but he was in horrible condition as an athlete and had no intention of doing anything other than what he wanted. Professionals seem to lose any love they had for a childhood team as well once they are in the machine. I get it, its a short career but I labour under the false hope good players and managers give a bit more of a shit about the emotional investment made by fans.3 -

Even though they are long retired I think it's a bad look for players to talk about how they behaved in these situations, it doesn't reflect well on them at all, and I would include Parkin in that.
He's a decent bloke on there and a good laugh, but his behaviour in forcing a move was shonky.
The same goes for Ben Foster openly talking about his wages on his Fozcast podcast, there is no need for it, we know you were on great money when you were in the Premier League, there is no need to give us the details!2 -
He doesn't rate us does he - listening to this.2

Probably one of the reason why Man U are shit these days, the players don't really care as they know the next manager will be along pretty shortly.3 - Sponsored links:

You'd have to say, that in hindsight he was fortunate to play for England. SCP absolutely deserved his five caps, but as a regular at the time I never felt that Konch was half the player SCP was. I'd probably have Scotty Minto in front of him as well, in terms of English CAFC left backs.3
-
I was at 0-0 game at Upton Park when Konchesky was playing for West Ham, remember him giving the two finger salute to the Charlton fans. Have disliked him since.1
-
We used to sit down the front of the East Stand in the Prem days. I'll always remember one game, Konch came on as a sub, and promptly played a pass to absolutely no one. The guy next to me shouted in his loud, booming voice: "What the f*ing hell was that!?" And Konchesky turned round and gave him a load of abuse back, including telling the season-ticket holder to go and eff his mother.2

Comes across as very bitter there, doesn't take responsibility for anything. He couldn't get in the team ahead of Chris Powell, who got more England caps than he did, or Hreidarsson who was great for us and moaned about not getting to play exactly where he wanted. He's moaned about George McCartney taking his spot at West Ham too and that having nothing to do with his performances but McCartney was great when he came in there and finished second in their POTY vote. At a certain point maybe Konchesky just wasn't as good as he thought he was9

He didn't wear the charlton shirt with sincere pride or passion but we've certainly had worse. Just a footballer who had an ambitious career.
It just is what it is.
It's an honest interview at least. Didn't hide away from being a dickhead.1 -
I found it interesting the way he answered questions about managers who he played for.
Pardew and curbs are very different kind of people.
For example, let's say if an ego maniac like Joey Barton ever played for Curbs, then his unexplained up himself ego would be so beyond bruised, he would probably still be sobbing about it to this day.
If he played for Pardew, they would still be hungover from sharing strong opinions, stroking each other, and spending back pocket thai bat millions change in brothels. He probably would have got Joey playing well (for only about 2 or 3 months)
Curbs got results and he didn't care about being liked. He put the needs of the club 1st.
That's partially why he is and always will be a Charlton ledgend.5 -

To be fair Pardew had a successful managerial career. 859 games, and 2 FA Cup finals. His time with us was his biggest failure.1
