If Jones wasn't happy with what Kelman does, he wouldn't be playing. And he's not playing him "because of the fee" or Knibbs would have been starting over Carey too.
I'm sure everyone including Jones and Kelman would love for him to have scored by now but we've got the results we have by setting up and playing the way NJ wants - and he wants Kelman starting.
It's not just the lack of goals though, it's the lack of general attacking impact that's a bit concerning. We've scored 7 goals this season, has Kelman been involved in any of them?
And this is before Matt Godden returns to add even more competition up front.
He wasn't even on the pitch for 5 of them.
This is the main issue, when he’s on the pitch we don’t really look like scoring from open play unless TC does something. Kelman doesn’t do any of the good stuff Leaburn and Godden do to win flick ons, hold the ball up and get us up the pitch, that then lead to us creating chances.
I was more sceptical than most when we signed Kelman, but I did think he could be a good signing for us if we played him alongside one of Leaburn, Godden or Olaofe. I think that’s the change that needs to be made to get the best out of Kelman, but it would mean splitting up the Leaburn-Olaofe partnership so Jones might view that as the wrong move
Looks like it’s a while away but who misses out on the squad when Godden is fit? TC looks threatening and tires out defences, Leaburn and Tanto make a difference most matches but Kelman is the starter so would be harsh to suddenly remove him from the squad altogether

Not harsh if he’s the only one not making an impact. We’ve got 9 subs so could have all 5 in the squad still
There isn't much pressure on Kelman at the moment, as the team is doing well. It's akin to a batsman who can't buy a run, but if the team is winning, there's no pressure to change a winning team.
If we were losing, it would be a harder call to keep restricting Tanto and Miles to sub roles. Tanto in particular can feel hard done by, having not started a single league game.

We’d drop either JRC or Anderson and just take 2 midfielders opposed to 3 on the bench in the match day squad our midfield hardly ever changes and have all 5 strikers in the squad. Although it’s arguably between Kelman/Godden which forward won’t be involved because Tanto TC and Leaburn all offer something others don’t have Kelman and Godden are very similar

They really aren’t very similar at all? That’s why at the moment Kelman is not working

Kelman isn’t working because he’s not as good as Godden from what we’ve seen, Godden clearly has a much higher footballing IQ and ability to link play, but in terms of physical build, being quality finishers and like playing on the last man and getting in behind they are very similar. Kelman hasn’t had amazing service but Godden knows where to be to get that service Kelman doesn’t unless he’s spoon fed the ball to his feet. Kelman didn’t make coventrys through ball or wasn’t it the right position for TC’s cross yesterday can guarantee Godden would have managed both

I imagine Kelman is faster than Godden, but as we rarely play defence splitting forward passes from midfield anyway, it's of little benefit to the team.

Compare their stats last season and they are very different. Both are good finishers and can play on the last defender, but outside of that they are very different profiles. Kelman at his best is a nuisance pressing from the front, running the channels and good in transition. Godden is good with his back to goal, links play well, holds the ball up, battles defenders, wins flick ons. All those things mean Godden suits the set up we play and Kelman doesn’t

Godden offers a lot all round, but realistically he’s not a Leaburn with his physical build, he’s not a TC with his ability to take players on and play a hybrid role he’s not an Oloafe with his Pace and Power. They all offer something better than Godden even if they’re not the complete package there is nothing Kelman has that Godden hasn’t shown he can’t do. There’s not a single attribute I can name that Kelman has that is better than any other forward we have
I thought Kelman worked his nuts off yesterday and paved the way for Tanto and Miles to come on and take advantage. Whilst it’s not broken I think we should stick with him from the start although I’d like to see him with Tanto in place of TC who I don’t think is offering enough at the moment.
Back to Charlie, I can’t remember him missing a chance where I think he should have finished that, in fact we haven’t been creating many chances for him. Others, like Burke yesterday, have missed chances where if they had fallen to Charlie I’m sure he would have tucked them away. It’s certainly far, far too early to write him off and I think he’ll come good sooner rather than later.

I really can’t get people saying this when TC does more in 1 game than Kelman has done all season. If he’s not doing enough then how is Kelman?

I kind of feel a bit sorry for Kelman, he's clearly a bit low on confidence right but we're not really creating anything for him. Like you say it's not as if he's missed a few sitters. In most games he's barely getting a chance at all.
Just needs a chance like Olaofe got at Sheff Utd, or maybe even a penalty to get off the mark.

Bang on, TC is doing way more than Kelman is and yet we’ve got to persevere with him and drop TC? Ridiculous
I do think kelman starting and leaburn finishing protects leaburn and helps prevent risk of leaburn breaking down - which i am for, tbh Although dont see why we cant at least try something different like start with fullah

Im not sure throwing an 18yr old midfielder who’s only played wingback in the men’s team with less than 5 professional appearances asking him to be the main central striker is quite the solution.
Played well yesterday and worth remembering we haven’t created a single chance for him. There was a moment in the first half where he cleverly chested the ball to Bree who then ran through before being hacked down near the box.
He’s an intelligent player and will get better as the weeks go on.
How would Kelman not starting have improved things yesterday? We would've won 6 or 7? I think people are looking too intensely at some of the players instead of the sum of their parts.
And in all honesty, it really doesn't matter one jot what we think at the moment. Jones account is in double double credit. He knows what he's doing.
So many apologists on here. Probably the same who stood up for Ahadme.
For the record the desired Olaofe and Kelman partnership was abysmal at Cambridge. Still I suppose Charlie was still getting up to speed, which curiously hasn't been a problem for Bree and Burke.
Also if defenders tire so much, then why are they not replaced as much as midfielders or strikers?
I'm not saying he won't come good but surely either of the other two subs should start?
One thing that was said a lot when we signed Kelman was that he had similar attributes to Godden and could learn a lot from him. It's a shame that Godden has been injured all season so far because it means Kelman hasn't been able to watch him in games or pick up on what he does in training. Godden is the perfect striker for our system and knows how to exploit it after a season of playing in it after looking a bit lost sometimes at the start, Kelman could have done with rotating out with him a bit and observing

If Kelman's performances were from an academy product and not someone we had spent 3m on, we'd be saying he's not ready for the first team.
I realise that if my auntie had balls she’d be my uncle but I think it’s reasonable to ponder that had we held on v Millwall and not suffered a fabulous effort to lose to Leicester then we would have an additional three points. That would have us second. Far from being lucky, I think we can feel a bit unlucky.
He looked like he was putting in a big shift yesterday with not many actual or half chances coming his way. Of course, when your main striker is making a nuisance of himself in the opposition half it tends to open up chances for the non-strikers which, funnily enough, seemed to happen quite a few times yesterday, 3 of which being converted into goals. Obviously a bit unsporting of us to get our main striker to distract their chaps and, in the words of one of those chaps across the river, vile of Charlton but I can’t say I’d be too bothered if the tactic works that well until Charlie finds his scoring boots once again.

If we want our main striker to be super busy, making himself a real nuisance to the defenders, then Tanto would be a perfect no 9 starter, as he's probably the best of all our attackers at that.

Godden has 10 years more experience, much of that at Championship level.
Give Kelman time to gain experience at this level, with this team.
NJ said yesterday that once the basics are achieved, the intention will be to make the team more fluid.

Maybe signing Kelman is seen as part of that?
Guess he prefers Kelman to Leaburn currently.
