My FiL was a golf enthusiast and played the game at a good level. He was absolutely tied into the etiquette of golf.
He is I suspect he is  spinning in his grave at the antics of both players /caddies and above all spectators of this historic event.
such a shame for the purist.

Decent article outlining the abuse aimed at Rory and Lowry in the afternoon session yesterday https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ryder-cup-2025-rory-mcilroy-saturday-fans

The US fans have zero class.
Nothing new. Americans can't do banter. They've never got it.
But the vitriol they have spouted this week does sound quite a few decibels up than it has in the past.
Would never want to make this political but I think you can put a lot of that down to the buffoon presiding over the place.
  • Apparently that kind of "banter" is the norm in their other sports such as baseball and American football.

I take it we're sending out Hovland last to give him the most amount of time to recover? And if he can't play English is the US scratch player

I wonder what the likes of Nicklaus makes of all this appalling behaviour. The US players and fans have been shocking - it was once a game where etiquette ruled.

I saw a list of the pairings last night & I'm sure Hovland was in match 10. I think they have re-jigged it for that reason. Or that if Europe are well ahead by then there would be no point risking him.

Hovland has to withdraw 30 minutes before the first match starts in order for the match to be halved, if he leaves it later or withdraws once the first match is underway Europe concede the point.

IF he withdraws in time, the envelope will reveal the US player that misses out and if it’s not Harris English, he will take the place of whichever player it is.

Interesting, I imagine he's been having sports massages and maybe even painkilling injections last night/this morning to try and see if he can fight through it

Also I'm not asking for much, but a win of 19.5/8.5 or greater would be wonderful

If he was to get the necessary point to win, they will have to honour him with a statue.

He went for a MRI last night, all depends on the outcome of that.

There's nothing at the hole to scare him, so he can just let rip.

And Fitz ends up closer to the pin on the green anyway…

Didn't think the yanks were that warm to Scheffler in the intro.

Was listening to the No laying up podcast earlier and they think this crowd will turn on the yank players when it finally slips away.

I can smack it 300 yards on that hole with no discernible rough to punish me

    Good start.
  • Maybe to give the USA a bit of a chance in the next tournament, we should expand their team to the Rest of the World.
  • Not a bad start
  • It’s all falling apart for Team USA
    Was it ever actually together?

I'm no golfer and can't say I'm much of a fan when it's on the TV either - but if the American's are getting whooped then count me in.

Just one question to all you experts though. Has there ever been a recorded example of where shouting "Get in the hole" - usually in a loud and obnoxious American voice - has ever encouraged the ball to unilaterally take it upon itself to change course and direction of it's own accord and plop into a hole?
  • DeChambeau being 5 down after 7 is highly amusing.
