  • Dawkins currently has an average of 54.67 in FC cricket. Would be harsh for him not to be given the opportunity to open at the start of next season even if England were prepared to release Crawley given that the latter won't be available for many games and has never been that reliable in red ball anyway.
Will be harsh but Compton, Northeast , Muyeye, BD and Evison are certainties to be in the top 6, plus Finch , so Dawkins might have to be patient .

He probably will but, there again, Crawley might not even be with us next season. We also have to think about the future so far as contracts are concerned. The likes of Dawkins and Ekansh are only on short term rookie contracts - what we can't have is a Robinson type situation where a player doesn't get meaningful opportunities AND we haven't tied them into longer term contracts.
  • Jaydn LBW for a duck

    131-3
  • Dawkins out feathering one down the legside for 61 (132). Curtiss is being given an opportunity to come in ahead of the likes of Evison and Finch.

    Ekansh 28* (47)

    157-4 (50.2)
  • 204-5

    Ekansh 46*

    Evison 9*

    Curtiss was out for 14.

It's possible that we could complete this match without accumulating any points at all but hopefully with 5 wickets in hand we should score the 46 runs required to gain a batting bonus point.
  • 217-5 at lunch.

    Ekansh 56*

    Evison 11*
  • That's Ekansh's third 50 in his last four innings. Earlier in the season he was regularly getting out in the 40s - next step is to convert the 50s into hundreds.

On a sidenote, Seb was at Beckenham on Sunday as part of the Kent Regional coaching team doing the assessments for the Regional training squads. He had a good chat with Ekansh (they played together in the Kent U18s) who was working in the gym which is part and parcel of him turning himself into becoming a genuine all rounder. He really is dedicated to the cause as well as being an unassuming and genuine young man.
  • I really am the kiss of death. No sooner than I posted the above than Ekansh is caught and bowled smashing one back at Morley (his fifth wicket) for 71 (113)

    239-6

    Evison 18* (50)

  • 253-6 and our first bonus point in the game not that, in the great scheme of things, it's game changing in any shape or form.
  • Evison caught at slip chasing a wide one for 33 (71)

262-7 and just 436 behind now

  • 270-8 Finch gone for 16.
  • 270-9 Flintoff 0.
  • 271 all out and 427 behind. Parkinson doesn't trouble the scorer either.

    Stewart stranded on 1* (8)
  • 271 all out. Parkinson 0. Stewart 1*

They will presumably make us follow on. only 428 needed to make them bat again though!!

One point from this game will be our lot I feel.
  • No surprise that we are following on. Unfortunately, Dawkins has been bowled second ball.
  • We've lost 6 wickets in our last 11 overs.

All over by close of play I'm sure. Then we can put the season behind us and focus on the positives around the youngsters. Hopefully they have a good winter and come back in a stronger position in the spring
  • Jaydn caught behind for 4

    12-2
  • Ekansh caught behind for 4

    20-3
  • Kinda getting agree now. I know its meaningless, we have injuries and we're blooding youngsters but this feels like a pub team performance now. Can someone please show a bit of pride?

  • 101-3

    Compton 41* (62)
    Evison 50* (63)
  • 110-3

Compton and Evison at least showing a bit of resistance given that Kent were 20-3 at one stage.

Evison out with the score on 110 for 53 (84)
  • Curtiss bowled for 4 (9)

    119-5
  • Oh well done Kent. We’ve made it into day 4
  • 136-5 (40) at close

    Compton 55* (103)
    Finch 8* (23)
  • I'm going to hazard a guess at what our likely line up might be come early April. I've made a few assumptions - that Crawley will still be with us and available, that Stewart has signed a new contract, that we are going to have a second overseas seamer and being the time of year, that we won't be playing a spinner.

In doing so, I've put in bold those that are playing in the current match (4) to highlight how different that team is likely to be:

    Crawley
    Compton
    Northeast
    Muyeye
    DBD
    Evison
    Finch
    Stewart
    Dudgeon
    Milnes
    A N other overseas quick
  • 170/7, so close to the end
  • It's lucky that the promotion places are already decided,  as the weakness of the teams we've put out at the end of the season has been awful, and could have badly distorted the top of the table
  • Injuries and other absences have ruined Kent’s season, but I feel it could have been handled better. Why has Leaning been set aside for recent games? Could Billings and Klaassen not be persuaded to play some red ball games on short term deals? Could Kent have tried harder to wrest Crawley away from England when he simply has not been playing? Why release Gilchrist to Warwickshire early when neither Northeast nor Milnes have been released to us?
It smacks of weak management and lack of foresight. I’m all for giving the five youngsters their chances but none of them have added anything to the bowling attack, and only two or three have made positive contributions with the bat.
