I was for selecting your own seat at the start of the season, but now I'm against it.
They've been selling the worst blocks first for the last few games, which gives those of us that attend every game the worst seats (assuming we buy in our phase), while those who only qualify for the later stages immediately have the best seats to choose from.
Fortunately, everybody is still sitting wherever they want anyway and I haven't seen any aggro yet.

I had some plonkers in my seats when I arrived at QPR and the ground was already packed out including the gangways, and is so cramped with hardly any space knocking about. They moved and no way I was gonna make do having forked out for a 39 quid ticket, but they had a bit of a bitch about it.
I'm in favour of the selecting your own seat scenario and have preferred it thus far, albeit I'm near the top on the points stakes so maybe I would feel differently if I was lower down. However, I prefer being able to just pick and head to your spot rather than bundle into the ground which happened quite a bit last year and not really know where you're heading, Birmingham in particular was chaos. If you're lower down the stakes you probably then have to accept that you have to make do or bundle on the gangway or whatever, which I think i'd be okay with if in that boat

I’ve sat in all the seats I’ve bought so far and tbh I think it’s been working really well. Been interesting to see people’s buying habits.
You do have the option of if you don’t like the block on offer to ‘hold off’ till it does come available. We’re hardly Oasis where whole blocks sell out instantly
Personally I prefer it. My season ticket is at the back of the covered upper, and always prefer to try and go to the back/loudest section where possible. However I quite often go to away games by myself.
Previously when not a sell out fine I could still do that. However when it was, as a lone person I would normally go more towards/exactly if it was available the seat I'd been given, so I didn't have the stress of worrying about someone telling me I was in their seat. Now I can specifically select a ticket in the area of my choice and don't need to worry about being in an area I would potentially enjoy less or being in a seat that's not mine and possibly having to deal with that.
I don't think it's made any difference really. It's just the same dynamic of some people going to their allocated seat and some not. I headed towards my seat at Bristol City and QPR. At Bristol the fella behind me got the arsehole with me standing up (even though he could've chosen to sit down the front) and at QPR we got stuck on the stairs for the first half.
Sheffield United I ignored my allocated seat which was the best experience of the lot as I went into the safe standing bit right at the end of the stand and had loads of room
I'm a fan of the new system and having been at all the away games so far this season it's been nice to arrive knowing specifically where I'll be sitting. I tend to arrive early enough that no one will have taken my seat. I also think it makes it easier to ask someone to move if they're in your seat as the system now means it's geared up differently.
Being in row two in Sheffield didn't feel like the greatest shout as I was absolutely soaked through but being on hand for the after goal bundle was absolutely superb.

While it's possible to buy later, I prefer to buy when I'm able to go to the ticket office to avoid the online booking fee. You still don't get to pick your seat at the ticket office and they assign them at random. Even if you stick to online, you're going to have to monitor the site fairly regularly to see when the blocks actually open up.
I bought my ticket for Ipswich yesterday before the women's match against West Ham as I won't have a chance to go the ticket office again (no time before the Blackburn game) until the week commencing the 6th of October. I haven't bothered to look at where they have sat me, but I can say with absolute certainty that I will not be sitting in that seat at the game.
I guess the thing to do is for me to monitor sales and ask to have my ticket switched to a better seat when the block opens up, assuming they don't charge for that.
I also think it makes it easier to ask someone to move if they're in your seat as the system now means it's geared up differently.
You've highlighted exactly why I was for it at the start of the season and am against it now. If we assume everybody buys in their phase, then the regulars are all in the worst seats in the corner, while the Valley Gold members out on one of their few away games have the premium central seats.
While the regulars technically did choose their seats, they would have picked better seats if they were available.
Therefore, seat selection being available isn't a sufficient argument for somebody to move if their in your seat. That said, I am somebody who will move if I sit in somebody else's seat and they want it.
I've got my ticket, but only because I told my mate I'd go before I found out the prices. I wouldn't have willingly paid such a rip-off price for tickets on principle. I only hope that Ipswich do the decent thing and put out a severely weakened team for us to roll over as compensation for fleecing us.
Will be a 4th visit to Portman Road for me. 2-1 win, 3-0 loss and a 4-0 loss so far. Thankfully a rail replacement service put me off for the 6-0 last time we were there

That sounds like 19 anti-climax matches since that day out when the result was just a bye-line to the experience of being there and the question how the fuck did so many Charlton fans manage to fit in that stand - I wasn’t one of those, we enjoyed the corporate hospitality that was laid on, a novelty in those days which wouldn’t surprise me if it was pioneered by the legendary brewery owning brothers that also owned Ipswich at the time. Obviously people were a lot slimmer in those days but nevertheless….
