It will be my 20th visit to Portman Road following Charlton, my first visit was the 2-0 FA Cup defeat in 1981, i have not missed a Charlton game there since then.
That sounds like 19 anti-climax matches since that day out when the result was just a bye-line to the experience of being there and the question how the fuck did so many Charlton fans manage to fit in that stand - I wasn’t one of those, we enjoyed the corporate hospitality that was laid on, a novelty in those days which wouldn’t surprise me if it was pioneered by the legendary brewery owning brothers that also owned Ipswich at the time. Obviously people were a lot slimmer in those days but nevertheless….
Certainly was a squeeze. If I remember rightly their goalie was the only member of their team who wasnt an international.
12th visit for me. 1st was the 4-4 back in 1990. Will take it back to my most visited away ground, 1 above Southend.
Unfortunately since moving to Suffolk and it now becoming the closest league ground to me we've played at Portman Road twice and lost 10-0 on aggregate. Record seeing us here before moving up was pretty decent.
Also a Suffolk-dweller and thankfully missed our last visit here! Got tickets this time around so hopefully our turn to score a couple..........well, at least one will be nice. COYA!!!

That was my first Charlton game ever! Opening with a defeat has set the tone for most of the following 44 years ...
Only been to Portman Road once since then ... and I can't remember when it was or what the result was! All I know is that it was between 1999 and about 2007 and an evening game.
