Surrey have released Ari Karvelas, Bertie Foreman, Archie Lenham, Zach Lion-Cachet and Henry Rogers. Karvelas is the one that has previously been mentioned as possibly joining Kent but the one that I'm a bit surprised with is Lenham.
The son of former Sussex player, Neil, made his debut in the Blast as a 16 year-old, is still only just 21 and his last competitive game was a match winning contribution of 5-48 in the 50 over comp. Sussex do have other alternatives but it just goes to show that precocious talent isn't enough especially if spin is your only suit. Hope someone picks him up nevertheless.

Lenham is very very unlucky. If we hadn't signed Danny Briggs on a T20 deal I suspect he would have stayed. We've also got Troy Henry from the ACE academy programme who seems to be highly thought of too.
Been overtaken as the second spinner by James Coles behind Jack Carson but gave a very good account of himself in the ODC and I hope he finds himself a county because there's a real talent there.
Karvelas to Kent just makes too much sense not to happen. If you're after young middle order talent that can give you a bit of fill in spin Zach Lion-Cachet is probably worth a look , haven't seen a huge amount of him this summer because he's been on international duty for Netherlands.

Back in the 1970s the Gillette Cup Final was usually held on the weekend of the 3rd/4th/5th September. Weather at that time of year was always a concern and winning the toss and putting the opposition in was, more often that not, the order of the day. The odds of the weather being, typically, better by the final of the 50 over comp being held over two weeks later are going to be pretty huge so the toss, with the cloud cover, possible rain to come plus the advantage of batting second knowing what DLS is, could be a ridiculously massive advantage in what should be a 50/50 call.

@leuth stuck between a rock and a hard place. Screaming at the TV dogs abuse at the Hants captain, Gubbins, for not giving the spinner a sixth over and then shouting with glee that he enabled Worcs to win in not doing so!
Yes it's a downgraded competition, the cricket version of the EFL Trophy now, but when you're a player or spectator there it really matters. I really enjoyed Kent's victory 3 years ago.
Men’s Head Coach Adam Hollioake has named a squad of 13 for Kent’s final match of the season at home to Derbyshire, captained by Harry Finch.
After becoming a late addition to the squad to face Leicestershire last time out, George Garrett retains his place and is joined by a returning Ben Compton, who missed the trip to Leicester with a wrist injury.
Olly Curtiss and Corey Flintoff both made their career first-class debuts against Leicestershire and remain in the squad for this week.

Following an on-field collision whilst running between the wickets against Lancashire, Tawanda Muyeye developed delayed symptoms of concussion and was replaced by Joe Denly in Kent’s first ever concussion substitution. He has not passed a reassessment, meaning his seven-day window in which he is unavailable for selection has restarted.
Matt Quinn left the field with a lower leg injury in the same match against Lancashire, and is ruled out of this fixture.
Joe Denly developed a slight knee injury at Leicester and is not selected for the Derbyshire match.
Daniel Bell-Drummond misses out with his knee injury sustained before the Metro Bank One Day Cup – despite being passed fit to play in Kent Spitfires’ Vitality Blast Quarter Final, he is not fit for the final match of the Summer.
Chris Benjamin has been ruled out with his shoulder injury, with a long-term solution now being sought by the Club’s Medical Team.
Zak Crawley has not been released by England to play in this match.
Nathan Gilchrist has joined Warwickshire on loan for the remainder of the Summer, before joining the Edgbaston-based side permanently from 1 November.
Jas Singh has had surgery on his ankle injury and is sidelined for the rest of the season, but is now on the road to recovery after beginning light bowl-throughs and batting in the nets.
Jack Leaning and Marcus O’Riordan have not been selected.
Fred Klaassen and Sam Billings are white-ball contracted players and are unavailable for County Championship selection.

I’m hoping to be at Canterbury for the first day tomorrow. 78 years old, with a dicky ticker and a kidney removed in Feb, I might be in better shape than half the squad. I’ll take my bat just in case. 😉
I've no idea why Zak hasn't been allowed to play in the last cc games. Unlike Duckett he isn't part of the England white ball setup, so isn't as overworked.

He’s been called up to the NZ T20s, could probably still play cc games but he is now in the white ball setup
There are three parties involved in the decision making regarding the centrally contracted players - England, the county and the player himself.
Crawley has the same success at county and international cricket in this country - one big innings among a number of ordinary ones with his FC average of 32.18 only marginally better than his Test average of 31.55. Put simply, the chances of him being at his best in England coming to the end of September aren't great and for that reason he and England might well come to the conclusion that he will be better served playing a bit of golf now and then some "see ball, hit ball" for the T20 in NZ. Kent's input might also be a minimal one but will be influenced by one factor - will he be playing for us next season and if he won't then what's the point in him turning out for us when he would be taking the place of someone who will be.
I think we will see a lot of changes from the squad that started this season. Hollioake has given a chance to many to prove themselves with some, sadly, falling well short. One such player could well be Cohen who just doesn't look like the bowler I hoped he would be. He's gone for 24 in his opening 3 overs to date.
Donald has reached his 50 already off just 57 balls.

And of course Cohen gets the wicket of Donald for 55!

I think the phrase, "buying a wicket", is rather apt when it comes to Cohen with current figures for the season of 39-2-207-2. He is capable of bowling a beauty but bowlers are defined at the highest level by the number of bad balls they bowl and giving away seven boundaries in his first four overs today simply isn't good enough.
Not a good day here at Canterbury. I echo what Addick Addict says about Cohen. Left arm quick but with no guile. Doesn’t move it in the air, or seam it. And too many balls getting sent to the rope. Just not good enough. Derbyshire are batting Kent out of the game, and Kent’s fielding and catching has been average. Sitting here shivering while Derbyshire’s batters enjoy the buffet. Wayne Madsen has just become their second centurion of the day.
