He will be back up for Tovide but even getting 20 mins a game at L2 level with be better for him than U21 football
Strange that Tovide is still at Colchester.

A move to Luton fell through, the clubs couldn’t agree on the structure of the deal.

If he was that good, I'm surprised other L1 sides didn't make a move.

MICAH Mbick left Colchester United’s senior players suitably impressed after his first training session with the club.

U’s head coach Danny Cowley has revealed that the teenage striker, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic last week, made a big impact on his first day at their Florence Park training ground.

Mbick, 18, made his Colchester debut as a second-half substitute in their 1-1 home draw with Crewe Alexandra, last Saturday.

Cowley said: “He’s going to be a good player, you ask the senior boys.

“He trained with us Thursday, Friday and a couple of seniors said to me ‘wow, that’s the best training debut you’ll ever see’ on Thursday.

“I think he scored six goals and made four assists.

“We count everything – we count the boys’ wins in training, their goals in training, their assists in training, we count their clean sheets in training, because we want the boys to compete and we train the boys to win.

“Winning is important, not just on matchday but every day.

“He’ll be just fine for us.

“I know he’s only 18 but let me tell you, he’ll be just fine for us.”

Colchester snapped up Mbick on a season-long loan on deadline day, to bolster their attacking options.

U’s boss Cowley says Charlton were reluctant to allow the teenage striker to leave in the summer transfer window but things changed after a chat with Addicks boss Nathan Jones.

Jones allowed the forward, who has made 11 senior appearances for Charlton having progressed through their academy ranks, to leave the Championship side on loan.

Colchester are now preparing for their clash at Accrington Stanley, on Saturday.

The game kicks off at 12.30pm, as it is being televised live on Sky Sports.

Colchester will be aiming to get back to winning ways after a four-game winless run, in League Two.

“Football is about outcomes and I don’t want to be a team that’s pleasing on the eye – I want to be a team that wins,” added Cowley.

Nathan Jones said something similar last season when Mbick came back from injury and joined the first team group for training. I can't remember the exact quote but it was along the lines of he was outstanding or done something that really impressed them, he then was part of the team going forward, so much so he trusted him to bring him on in the play-off final.

It's great he's making these big impressions early, seems like he's on the path to have a good career in the game. Hope he has a fantastic season at Colchester and comes back to us next season ready to kick on and be a regular in the Championship. Potential is there.

Yeah, it was before Cambridge A and NJ said they'd spotted something special in training and he was in for the rest of the season thereafter. I have to say I don't really see it. But his numbers at reserve level were great and hes clearly a physical threat. Be really interested to see how he gets on.

He still looks a tad ungainly in his running (and I think like Miles he might still be growing which probably explains that), but you can't complain about the finishing.

U's on-loan Charlton striker Micah Mbick on first EFL goal

MICAH Mbick enjoyed a day to remember for Colchester United at the weekend.

And the 18-year-old has revealed his first-ever EFL goal on his maiden league start was the product of some extra time on the training ground.

Mbick bagged Colchester’s second-half equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers, capping a special day for the on-loan Charlton Athletic striker.

He said: “A lot of work has been put in to get to this point and I just want to thank God.

“I’m really grateful to the manager for giving me this opportunity and it was my first start, too so it was a great way to top it off.

“It’s a culmination of putting the extras in and being calm in front of goal – that’s something that I’ve been trying to work on in pre-season and this season.

“Working with Nicky [Cowley] every day and doing extra after training, I think it really pays off.

“When you get into those situations in games, it’s really just habits and instinct or being clinical in front of goal and that’s what I showed there.

“Nicky told me a lot about when you are in those positions and you are in front of goal, the habits you develop in training and being ruthless in front of goal carries into a match.

“It’s about adapting to different situations in front of goal and it’s something I want to show more and show what I can do.”

Mbick is currently enjoying his first loan spell away from Championship side Charlton, having joined Colchester on transfer deadline day.

The Addicks academy graduate, who has made 11 senior appearances for the South London club, signed a new long-term contract with them, this summer.

“It’s a different experience to be honest, living on my own and things like that,” said Mbick.

“But everyone has really welcomed me so much and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

“I’m trying to keep working every day and keep going.

“I always have to keep my feet on the ground.

“The manager has huge trust in me and it’s great to go on the pitch especially as a young player, knowing you have a manager that has that trust in you.

“It gives me the freedom to express myself.

“Danny [Cowley] and Nicky have been really supportive of me and I think I have to keep working to repay them every day.

“I’ve been trying to build new relationships with new players.

“Payney [Jack Payne] is a senior pro and I’ve been learning a lot from him.

"I’ve just been trying to get on the same wavelength as him and the goal was a great example of that happening.”

Mbick was given the nod over the likes of Samson Tovide and Jaden Williams to start for Colchester against Bristol Rovers.

“Competition for places is always healthy,” said Mbick.

“I’m learning things from Samson and I think he’s learning things from me as well.

“It’s not really about competition or rivalry; it’s more about relationships and learning from each other, so it’s a healthy environment.”

Colchester were left frustrated after their draw with Bristol Rovers having been the better side and spurning a number of good opportunities.

Mbick added: “With the system we play, we’ll always create chances.

"We’re a great threat in behind and in the transition and if we were more ruthless, we’d have got the three points.

"But there were great positives to take into next week.

“Putting the ball in the back of the net is the hardest part of football.

“It’s difficult when you create so many chances and go 1-0 down but we’re really trying to get our mindset right about no disappointment and being together.

“Things go wrong but you have to bounce back and I think that reflected in the result.

“It’s coming together; it’s only a matter of time until we get three points and get momentum.”

  • Feel like when he gets some confidence both physically and in his own ability he’ll be a good player - last season he’d get into great positions, get passed the ball and then look a bit lost on what to do next. Hopefully more regular first team football will help with this.
