Does he pass the height test?
He would with a stilt on9 -
If it's Apter vs Bree, rather than one being cover, it's a lot of fierce competition for that RWB role which will likely drive them both on.Covered_End_Lad said:As others have said I can't imagine a player like Bree in his mid-20's who started that many premier league games last season coming in as RWB cover for Charlton. He will expect to start and begs the question where does Apter move to? We cannot drop Apter, has been far and away the best of the new recruits so far, perhaps he moves into the TC role?3 -
I tend to add an extra 10-15% bit of doubt to non Cawley journos during deadline day!ForeverAddickted said:
O'Rourke is usually fairly reliable though isnt he... Unless he's doing Agents a favour.fenaddick said:

He's not Cawley levels, but he's not as a shit as Nixon1 -
I think TC will be dropped for next few games. These players have to earn the right to be play every game.Covered_End_Lad said:As others have said I can't imagine a player like Bree in his mid-20's who started that many premier league games last season coming in as RWB cover for Charlton. I thought there was one or two that he got wrong for us as well this summer?CB1 said:

Bree isn’t fit so there won’t be any change in the short term.Covered_End_Lad said:As others have said I can't imagine a player like Bree in his mid-20's who started that many premier league games last season coming in as RWB cover for Charlton. Kaminski
Ramsay Jones Bell
Bree Docherty Coventry. Edwards
Apter Carey
Leaburn
Quite defensive but good to have that option, with the usual Apter wing back for the games we want to attack more

Kaminski
Mathias Ross (signed for Plymouth)
Apter
Knibbs
Datro Fofana
That’s not to say he was the first to break the news on all of these.1 -
Fukuda doesn't look likely to me having watched some of his game against Okayama on Saturday. Mobile enough but lightweight. Reminds me of Dixon as in potential but small and not ready for what we need. Still the fact Rafael got two smart finishes in that game, (a 5-0 win for Kyoto) and we may have had a scout or two there, gives me hope we are interested in him instead when their season ends.thenewbie said:
Which is the way it goes sometimes - I think that the Fukuda interest was real but ultimately we need cover now, not in a few months time. If Fukuda/his club are determined to wait, we'll have to write it off.hermann said:Bree sounds like a good addition but would surely mean the end of the Fukuda interest?0 -

Ramsay as an actual centre back 🤣🤣Braziliance said:

Marcus please can you also your crystal ball to predict a quality hard- working, ball playing CM too. Maybe Marc Leonard ☺️MarcusH26 said:I'm not ITK having mentioned Bree last night , that was completely based off Southampton signing an RB from Gala on loan 😂😂1 -
Got to get our xG up, this is the way. Our xGA is great so let's sacrifice a bit of that and hover around 13th for that instead, should put the xG up a few places which should = mid-table finish.

I love Ramsay but playing him in a 2 would be suicidal4

Jones doesn't like changing his system but that would be an interesting team to watch attacking.Braziliance said:

The difference between Cawley and someone like O'Rourke is that it matters to Cawley that he reports based on facts. O'Rourke will be perfectly happy with a bit of bullshit on social media (it has 165,000 views on Twitter right now🥵)fenaddick said:

Well it beats "my Saints supporting mate says...." or "my best mate is mates with a Stoke ST holder and he says...."Garrymanilow said:

If we did go 4-3-3 then I think Jones and one of Burke/Gillesphey would have to be the centre backs with Ramsay/Bree right back. And then I’d probably say Leaburn or Godden as the best options for lone strikerBraziliance said:Got to get our xG up, this is the way. I don’t think Bree has featured for Southampton at all this season. He wasn't named on the bench for the League Cup games either by the looks of it.0

Isn’t Bree more a Ramsay position than a Apter position?0

As much as I think we look good defensively, we are void of ideas at times. I know TC and Apter create chances on paper but it doesn't look that way in the flesh, they're easily defended chances mostly.
I don't know where that leaves Apter if Bree comes in, same as if Fukuda did.
I honestly don't think Jones knows his best XI and we won't know until around Christmas.
Personally think we don't suit the 532 at this level. In League 1 it worked as we got punished less often and the defenders were worse, we don't have wing backs who can put in killer crosses/chances and defend the whole game. Early doors though, but that's my gut feeling so far.0 -

No, he's predominantly a full back but has also played in midfield too - he's the defensive alternative to Apter if we need to change shape or shore things up.AFKABartram said:Isn’t Bree more a Ramsay position than a Apter position?
He has apparently played at CB to be fair but I'm sure he's being targeted for WB cover more than anything.2 -
Think failing to put in killer crosses and failing to defend the whole game applies to every single formation you play. Also don’t play a traditional 532 in possession TC and Apter are practically wingers the way they get high and wide. I don’t get the urge to scrap everything that made us good last year being defensively solid and chucking that out the window. Millwall nearly got playoffs scoring less goals than a relegated Plymouth last seasonBraziliance said:

I find O’Rourke can be a little hit or miss. Didn’t he say Sonny Carey was headed to Derby the day before we signed him?ForeverAddickted said:

still hope he’s got Fofana right as he looks exciting.1 -

Early doors though, but that's my gut feeling so far.I still think the 3-5-2 is the way to go, 3 at the back suits the squad because it’s what we’ve recruited for. I’d like to see Knibbs for Docherty in the games we think we can be more adventurous, and then maybe a switch to 3-4-2-1 for the more defensive games with Bree coming in and Apter moving forward.I know it’s boring, but we just aren’t going to be a team that creates lots of chances. We will do what we are good at, being solid and nicking wins from low margin games. It’s not pretty but it will keep us up. We’ve only played 4 games but I think if we extrapolated those performance levels over the whole season then we will stay up2
