Tonight you saw AMB without the benefit of a solid back 3 in front of him, he really shouldn't play for us again. Knibbs, JRC, Anderson, Gillesphey, Mitchell all terrible,. hopefully just a bad day at the office. Kelman and Olaofe had some moments but Leaburn and TC start on Saturday for sure. Only Fullah advanced his cause today.

On the plus side, had tickets for the match but van has started playing up and had a work meeting later than expected so watched at home instead. Not now driving back from cambridge so have saved at least 1hr 45 of being pissed off at a poorly structured first half performance, expected better of Knibbs and rankin-costello in particular, poor defensively from Mitchell and not much from Tanto....

slightly better second half but still overall pretty poor.

    Ref was shit as well.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to be disappointed that they've wasted an evening and shelled out decent money for what could have been an u23 line up.

If you're just turning the channel over and making yourself a cup of tea at the FT whistle, you're far less likely to be arsed.

Most disappointing thing for me was how poor the senior players looked. No one staked a claim to be included from the off on Saturday.
I dunno, if you're being thrown into a game with some youngsters and given no motivation to actually win the game I imagine it's more about fitness for some of them.

The majority of the goals conceded were down to the kids at the back anyway.

Sorry to labour the point but who should have played then ?

I'm just looking forward to QPR now. Seeing as we will have 11 rested players we should hammer them....yes ?
You can’t honestly be that dense can you? Seriously?

Either NJ had zero respect for Cambridge or zero respect for the competition. Poor showing. And I think we've loaned out the wrong Mitchell.

The prize was a potential money spinning 3rd round draw.
    Money spinning? lol!

Slim chance of getting a top team, who'd play their own kids, might get a fuller stadium as a result, but still little revenue from that, whilst winning tonight would have given us a whopping: £7k

As one of the few countries in Europe with multiple Domestic Tournaments across the Professional Leagues, its a competition that is barely worth its existence now, the prize of playing in Europe (which was obsolete anyway, because Newcastle got in the Champions League), is basically it.

    It was the League Cup
    not the Pizza Trophy.

The prize was a potential money spinning 3rd round draw.

Now our lesser used squad players / 1st team ‘finishers’ have fewer opportunities to look forward to.

Usual attitude towards a competition we should want to do well in.

    Poor all around.

NJ needs a win at QPR and against Millwall to redeem himself. 🙂
We can't win 4 on the trot but we can certainly lose 4.

Those of you who were not bothered about the Swiss Tony cup because it was crap, and now not bothered about the League Cup because we won’t win it, will presumably want us eliminated from the FA cup at the first possible opportunity as we won’t win that? Are you convinced that without that “unnecessary” interference we will get promoted to the Premier League? Or is the entire ambition you hold for the Addicks is to finish 17th in the Championship? And if we do get promoted to the EPL, will you be disappointed as we might get humped 6-0 by Arsenal?
Too sensible a post. Be off with you 🤭

No issue with the starting 11 but I think we should have had some experience on the bench. Maybe Leaburn and Doc/Coventry.
  • I'm royally pissed off with Jones tonight.

No real problems with the starting line up but that subs bench was a disgrace. Picking 2 kids who had played for the U21s earlier in the day is a complete piss take.

And what has come out of this charade? Kelman has gone another game without a goal and Olaofe and Knibbs gained nothing from playing tonight.

And as for the kids? Let's be honest, apart from Fullah none of them should be anywhere near our Championship first team. And Mitchell looks hopelessly overrated.

A rubbish evening all round and Jones needs to have a good look at himself in the mirror tonight.

About what you'd expect with that amount of youth players in the side. NJ clearly wanted out, although he will likely say otherwise.

Most disappointed with the senior players who were, almost to a man, passive and lifeless.

I couldn't give a crap about drawing a prem team, so I'm not too bothered about this competition, but I'd be angry if I travelled to watch that.
Chunes, if I were to have made that journey, I don't think I would expect to see too many first team players in the line up, please tell me who would you have put in that team ?
I didn't mean I expected more first-team players. I meant that with that many kids in the side, the result/performance is about what you'd expect.

Genuinely comes across on here that some people are happy we lost. A proper weird fanbase at times.

  • I know  a lot of youngsters in the team but with Knibbs, Olaofe, Kelman etc & fees paid for Gillesphey & Rankin-Costello etc, must
have been £6-7 million+ out there tonight, still would have expected a better performance at least!

Would you be happy with a Third Round tie, getting dicked 6-0 by Arsenal, and relegation from the Championship, because of the extra games that we've had to play? - Which competition out of all those that we have to play in, is the priority this season?

Championship survival is all that matters, all those with their opinion about tonight's defeat will be the first to voice their opinion about being back in a League that we all bloody well hate, and clearly isn't easy to get out of.

Does that red affect the league at all?
    No.

Cards stay in the competition they are received in.

Good job we aren't going through to the next round.
“red cards transcend England's domestic competitions. If a player were to receive a ban for a red card shown in a Carabao Cup clash, they would miss their team's next game, whatever domestic competition that may be”

Does a third round match guarantee relegation? Must have missed that addition to the rules.

Come on, don't be pedantic, you know what I mean!! - The longer the season goes on, the more and more running they'll have to do, to keep up with the fitness of the Championship will take effort out of the players.

Already we're pointing out how knackered the likes of Campbell looks come FT in League games

If we can play the minimum of 49-games this season, and finish 21st, its a success.

No one upset about tonight will truly give a rats arse about this defeat.

One or two other sides seem to have done the same as us tonight, notably Birmingham and Stoke who both lost at home to lower league opposition.

Win on Saturday and I will have forgotten all about today. Just winds me up that plenty of other teams manage to compete in multiple competitions each season while we fold at pretty much the first opportunity every time.

Dont even care if we win on Saturday or not... Its the season as a whole, that needs to be looked at, not just the one game - We'll go into Saturday with about eleven players who have had the week off from match action, QPR will go into Saturday not having played at all this midweek.

If QPR win, does it mean that we shouldnt even have bothered against Stevenage?

I probably agree with that but I would suggest that the experience was invaluable to the kids, so it's probably a long term benefit, maybe.

I think the point that you make about it being a long season is what I’ve been (badly) trying to get at all night.

come feb when there’s knocks in the squad and we’re trying to secure a nice comfortable mid table spot, I reckon we’ll all appreciate a few less games that need to be played
