Being Cat 1 brings a lot of advantages.
You can recruit earlier, EDIT you can recruit from a much wider geographical area, you are seen as the top standard when recruiting so more desirable to parents and players as well as coaches.
It harder and more expensive to poach players although it still happens.
If it didn't matter why did Birmingham go for and get it?
Yes, a big name premier club will still have that advantage but us being Cat 1 closes the gap.
Last season a board member said in private that Cat 1 was a priority.
Where that is now I don't know.9 -

One of the biggest differences is in recruitment catchment area - it is restricted geographically to a 1.5 hour drive time for Cat 2 whereas Cat 1 can recruit kids nationally.5

Until the system is sorted Chelsea will still be poaching players for next to nothing and ruining their careers in the hope of the occasional Cole Palmer. But Cat1 at least means you have a chance of getting a little more dollar when they come knocking. And Premier League means it's generally only the top clubs that have a genuine chance of nicking your best.3 -

So that's him, Gokah and Nduka all poached within a year before the age of 16.4 -
Surely the best way to reform it would be to limit how much each club can pay scholars. Abit like the MLS system you could you could for example a cat 1 academy have live five players you can pay the player whatever you want and the rest on a strict salary cap that's the sameish for all academies. Cat 2 have two, cat 3 have one.3

Amass is seen as the next big hope by a lot of Man U fans and there were a fair chunk disappointed Amorim didn’t take him on tour. Sounds like Dixon was still the standout0

Godwill Kukonki sounds like a player Nathan would talk about a lot.0

The biter bit. From The Guardian “Ngumoha is not eligible to sign a professional contract until he turns 17 on the 29th of this month but showed why Chelsea were livid when Liverpool tempted him away from their academy last summer.”.2

Crazy figures compared to the compensation we are given when our youngsters leave/are poached.Armando Broja's move to Burnley means Chelsea have made more than £250m in sales on players from their academy in just three years.
Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, influenced by the pressure of the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR), have accelerated a strategy that began under their predecessor as owner, Roman Abramovich.

£20m for a striker that's scored 2 Premier League goals in the last 3 seasons6

£25m for Ugochukwu who is average at best. It's just a way to circumnavigate rules and yet the premier league just let it happen - all in favour of the big boys
The ones we've lost will all be known as "Arsenal academy product" and "newcastle academy product" but it just doesn't tell the story.4 -

Who was it who said he’s better than Gomez at the same age?0 -

Presumably the minimal EPPP fees and appearance clauses, unless anyone has heard any different?1

This is really disappointing but I don't think there's anything we can do about it even if we got Cat 1 status and with a clear path to the first team , we're bound to lose a few of our brightest prospects because we just can't compete on wages etc.3

Was rumoured a while ago but looks like our u16 midfielder and England youth international Mishel Nduka has signed for Arsenal.
From clips I’ve seen he’s exceptionally skilful on the ball, had he stayed I imagine we’d have been pushing him up to the u18s this season at least.

So we will get £25,000 per year he was at the club from the age of 12 to 16.0

What is the point in having a successful academy if the system allows the best youngsters to be poached by the "big" clubs ?6
