About 12 of my lot have been doing just that for the last 3 seasons.LargeAddick said:Perhaps for one game everybody should vote with their feet and blank the catering outlets.
I refuse to drink in the ground because the beer is overpriced shit and the service is absolutely appalling.
For reasons known only to themselves I still have 4 or 5 of my mates who attend xbars and queue at half time for crap lager served in a plastic cup.
Each to their own I suppose
Can't help some people I guess3 -
Don't think he was looking at improvement, he'd just popped in to have a beer on his lunchbreak at 1 and was still waiting to be served.35

I love your posts, you are the best of us and I'm glad you called out my overtly sexist comment for what it was as opposed to seeing a story of the way of the world to a lot of people.ME14addick said:
That's a bit sexist, staff shouldn't be recruited by looks, but by their ability to do the job. Women shouldn't be seen as objects to attract men, that's a dangerous path to go down and has no place in a modern society.Carter said:
Thats exactly what I think, on a much, much smaller scale the lady who runs my local chooses her new staff less on experience, more on personality and in her words how fit they are. She is in the business of selling beer and knows men, especially men who go to the pub on their own will buy another couple of pints from the barmaid who has a nice smile and big norahs as opposed to Dave who used to run the afternoon shift at ocean beach a couple of summers ago. The rationale is bar work is something that can be easily trained into people.carly burn said:Bar service at the O2 is much the same. Slow, disinterested staff.Don't believe they are run by Gather and Gather?
I've seen people on here comment we need to get a better standard of bar staff candidate, but dare I say the O2 are shopping in the same market as Charlton.
The trick I'd say with running an operation like the O2 or matchdays at any football club is to put time and a bit if money into getting people with experience in to oversee and train on the job the ones recruited to fill a number. Either that or making it so ridiculously idiot proof by only serving drinks in pre-paclaged containers like cans or bottles and scanning barcodes
She actually recruits taking personality into account as well as smiles and body shape. Being able to play the role to a degree of a provincial town barmaid in a drinkers pub is also essential but how much can she gauge someone's tolerance to the male gaze, atrocious chat and the thickness of their skin in a 15 minute interview before any mention is made of needing to cover Friday and saturday night shifts. She has successfully trained loads of staff, bar work is very "if you can't grasp that then the world of work is going to be really difficult for you full stop" and is a great rite of passage for people entering the workplace
I'm not having a go, you seem nice but hilariously easily, predictably and unnecessarily triggered2 -
Got in the fanzone last night. Small queues so I was excited. Shame they didn’t have any Ale on. Only cider and lager. Went to Bartrams. I reckon twice as many staff as Saturday for a 10th of the crowd. Managed to get a meantime IPA in record time. I’m not really sure what to say. It’s not difficult is it?4

Meantime must be really pissed off if they are actually sponsoring us as we seem unable to shift any of their product5

How good was he at pulling a pint?Covered End said:I have a smidgen of good news.
Gavin Carter was in The Covered End concourse last night and was clearly talking to fans and “getting involved”.
If the Chairman is “getting his hands dirty” then we know there is hope of improvement.
Well done to Gavin for showing he cares.5 -

The catering management seem to go through managers quicker than a Roland manager, the bar staff have no desire or no clue on how to work in a bar.
Thats why when my missus buys a hot chocolate from the coffee bike and my daughter sees Larry we get a proper heartfelt conversation, they know what we like and who we are, and are actual Charlton fans!
BRING THEM BACK !7 -
Perkalicious owner of the coffee bike Alex here. Im still awaiting an answer from Gather and Gather to trade for the Leicester game (havent replied to my previous two emails as of yet 😪).Redandwhiteinmyviens said:The catering management seem to go through managers quicker than a Roland manager, the bar staff have no desire or no clue on how to work in a bar.

This is a beautiful comment. Thank you.
All I want to do is continue trading at Charlton. I have no idea where I stand still. Its heartbreaking for me.
I also know Larrys cocktail bar owner Scott wants to continue trading at Charlton too for sure.
We both deserve answers asap!

So this is a third party issue with Gather and Gather and not directly with Charlton, right? They were lauded as a step forward when Sandgaard brought them in, but I haven't seen an improvement at all, if anything we've got worseAlexCarter23_ said:

Yes that's correct as Gather and Gather are in charge of catering at Charlton.sam3110 said:

So it was gather and gather that took you both out? What changed from last season to this?AlexCarter23_ said:

Isn't it a joy to be moaning about beer pumps and cloth eared bar staff as opposed to our football club going down the sh**ter!7

My thoughts entirely - Personally I think the fans bar is wonderful, I asked for a pint and a half on saturday, they were running short of glasses and I think the guy got confused by the odd shaped flagon he picked up so I got two pints for the price of 1 1/2. Do that every game for 5 years I'd have enough to pay for my season ticket.carly burn said:Isn't it a joy to be moaning about beer pumps and cloth eared bar staff as opposed to our football club going down the sh**ter!7 -

Wonder if he saw the barmaid at half time who went and collected 2 pints from behind her, then forget who she was serving so put them down to one side and spend the next 5 mins walking side to side behind the tills until she finally got flagged down by the punter who's beer it was.Covered End said:I have a smidgen of good news.

You have to strip the serving of food and drink insides down to the very simple. Plastic bottles of drinks and food in packets. This is what the current set up of staff should be doing, not serving pints and making up food
It's outside in the fans zone you bring in quality independent traders whose livelihood depends on repeat business14 -
I don’t buy the ability to get staff. 10+ other clubs in London do it, many at a much larger scale (London stadium, Tottenham, Arsenal). They do it by automating and simplifying and having core management ensuring quality. We are getting short changed.JohnnyH2 said:

Arsenal now have Guinness as their official stout, that will separate the men from boys when it comes to pouring.BalladMan said:

Every pub, every club, Lord's, The Oval, Ally Pally, The O2, Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, The Forum, Crayford Dogs (before it closed), Wembley Arena, Wembley Stadium etc etc
I've never in my life been anywhere in the entire world, that doesn't know what lager is, don't know what a napkin is, mix lagers and cider in the same pint by mistake, forget who they are serving, pour pints of wine, pints of neat cordial, charge you incorrectly, can't serve you because they are under age, stand staring into space, basically are totally and utterly clueless.23 -
Erm… just out of interest, What stand was it that you got poured a pint of wine?43

If you ordered a pint on the Saturday, it might be ready for Tuesday night's game.5
