Might use the first game or two to see how we shape up.
If we get battered every game, I can see us making some panic signings on deadline day.
Can it be deemed a panic buy if there are already plan in place for that possibility a month or more in advance?
If we wouldn't make the purchase if we were decent, I would call it a panic buy still yes.
Like the break glass in case of emergency signings.
What if it's a signing in a position that we need strengthening anyway, but the team we're buying or loaning from don't release the player until later in the window? That's not a "panic buy" at all but by your definition it would be. Can't just use one brush to tar any new signings now

If we sign a player we've been looking at regardless then it's obviously not a panic signing.
If we get another player in a position we've already strengthened and it comes out of the blue on deadline day after a couple of 0-3 losses, then it's a panic buy.
Think we’ve settled the argument whether Apter can play the wingback hybrid role or not
He can but he was being coached a lot by Ramsay throughout the game. Transfermarkt tells me that Baah has played on the left before so I was surprised that they didn't try and switch him. It'd have been interesting to see how we'd have coped with that.

He scored his 2 goals for Rochdale v us from the left.

Just as Ramsay spent some time last season being coached by L Jones about how to be a CB and Macca was being coached by NJ from the sidelines at the same time. He’s learning a new role and a new system at a new club away from the north for the first time. If he can take on board what Ramsay is saying then there won’t be a problem

Two power shots from the left that Ben Amos didn't get a glove on. With all the data available why didn't Pezzolano switch Baah to the left to force Apter into a more defensive position and Ramsey to come wider to leave more space for the other Watford forwards ?
Kwadwo was well frustrated and came on for afters at the end of the match but not with Josh Edwards who he respected as a fine opponent and shock his hand.

This is why I was quite happy with Watford as an opening day opponent, loads of new signings for them and a manager with no championship experience. A manager with experience of English football would have looked at Baah Vs Apter and fancied that match up a lot more than Baah Vs Edwards and used it to pin back Apter as an attacking threat.

Sure he isn’t just filling in until we sign a RWB? Then Apter can be cover on the bench for TC.
“Cover for TC” this is a joke right?
Yeah, some of us said before yesterday’s game Apter is our RWB, and still will be even if we sign one later this window.
Others were saying we couldn’t assume that based on preseason as he might have just been filling in until we sign a RWB, meaning Apter might play elsewhere.

So a Spanish, Italian or French manager wouldn’t have been able to work that out solely because they’ve never managed in The Championship ?

It’s very early days but I thought there was a few times when communication went wrong and neither player was covering the wing. There did seem more overlapping and switching roles then previously between Small and Ramsay , Hopefully this is going to be a great partnership.

Based on yesterday Apter is the better player. Not afraid to take on players, confidence and has a shot on him, out of the two I would want apter to start atm
In my opinion, based on yesterday's performance, TC is not quite championship ready. Apter, however looks very well suited to the division. Hope I'm proved wrong on TC.

TC will come good, I saw enough of him yesterday to suggest he will grow and get better as the season progresses, as will the entire team.

After one game? Good grief! I actually thought TC had a good game. Yes, he needs to improve on decision making and end product, but he worries the shite out of defenders when he is running at them. Early days, but we have a real threat on either flank and with experience and as the new players get on the same wavelength there is reason to be optimistic
Also, I'm still buzzing from yesterday. Yes, we are still riding the wave of euphoria from last season, but we carried that momentum forward yesterday with real aplomb in our first performance and aquitted ourselves really well. It seems the new players have bought into NJs vision and as the teams continues to gel things can only get better. Of course we will be brought down to earth with a bump at some point but if yesterday is anything to go by we look like we have the tools and the desire to compete in this league
TC made a lot of good runs, drew fouls and put three or four dangerous balls into the box that weren't converted EG the flick by Kelman 2nd half that the keeper saved.
Not every cross or pass game off but neither did Apter's, who had a very good game IMHO, but TC is from the academy and not a new player so gets more harshly judged by some.

Like all wide players , he’s threatening but inconsistent . Yesterday some of his play was electric and some of his passing was awful. The broader question is whether playing him as a winger is the best fit for the team. We certainly looked a lot more coherent offensively when the three subs came on.
I hadn't realised Apter is basically left footed, making him even more of a like for like replacement for Small.
Yeah, and going by yesterday's display - albeit just one game - I reckon Apter could be an improvement on Small, purely because he seem more likely to stick his head up to have a look and square it, rather than going for a shot almost every time. I was a massive Small fan, by the way.

So it wasn't just TC, it was Kelman and Carey too that held us back?
But Carey was one of our best players some maybe it was bringing on fresh players that made the difference.
As Knibbs said himself post match the starters put a lot of work in and set it up for the finishers to win the game.
TC shouldn't be guaranteed a starting place, he needs to earn it but that applies to all the players and under Jones they will have to.
TC was slightly below average yesterday. Good running, good effort but some poor balls. He was championship naive but not rubbish. He will learn and come good
TC’s also playing with a whole new attacking unit, he knew how Godden, Berry & Small would move and where to put a ball in. Yesterday he did a great pull back that Berry/Doc would have got on the end of last year but there was no one there because the runs were slightly different. It will take time to bed in

Yes exactly . I like TC- he was integral last year but we have really options last year now, as opposed to last season when we really only had him and Godden, plus Small , as attacking outlets , for most of the season.
