  • Pompey 7.45 on December 29th, not ideal but we were planning a couple of days there anyway.
What time should it kick off considering its a normal working day?

Ah - I was forgetting that. DOH!

  • Brilliant news.
Renewed my sky sports in the week for £12 a month.
Assuming you're being serious(as usual), that is a terrific deal.

Anyone who followed the championship last season knew that this was coming if we went up.
It was not uncommon for 50% of games to be other than 15.00 kick offs.....for virtually all clubs.

Make sure you get the beers in
He'll open the curtains and you can watch it through the window, that's what he does for me.

  • It seems as though both Bein Sports in France and NOW TV are only showing the match which is on Sky Sports Football, not the Sky Sports + matches.

I don't expect anyone to help me with the former but can someone confirm the latter?

However, it seems as though us overseas fans can now watch these matches on Charlton TV starting with this Saturday's. Am I losing the plot a bit - this wasn't possible last season was it?

Another question: they've got the kick off time on https://www.charltonafc.com/charltontv/purchase-your-pass wrong, haven't they?

Watch individual matches on CharltonTV by purchasing pay-per-view match passes

    Charlton v Watford

    - Watch live on Saturday, August 9th (3pm BST)

    - Pre-show starts at 2.30pm

  • - Now TV should show Sky Sports + games, plenty of lifers used that last season

    - You would have been able to watch overseas last year although there are certain restrictions around these based on your local rights holder, @PragueAddick became quite the expert for the play offs

    - Yes it's 12:30 kick off local time

There was a problem for the play-off game especially in France, where people were barred from buying a one-off pass even though it was clear Bein were not going to show the game. Tom Rubashow contacted the EFL and got that fixed. However i fear the EFL are too lazy to police this situation for the new season. If there are problems, let me know here, and I’ll get on to Tom. He clearly wants to get these problems fixed.

If I recall, @jimmymelrose you dont want to use a VPN, but it is an excellent insurance against such problems. If France plays up, just use the VPN to switch you to Luxembourg or Germany, (the nearer the country , the better chance of good quality connection). Neither of those countries bought the pathetic current EFL international deal.

I call it pathetic in the context of the blocking of paid streams like Charlton TV , but it would be interesting to know what the club gets from the deal in the Championship. In league one, it was £450k, which is pretty pathetic.
  • Looked up the TV dosh. It’s a big leap up:

From the renewed Sky Sports deal, which is worth £935 million over five years across the English Football League (covering the Championship, League One, and League Two), Championship clubs receive approximately £3 to £4 million each annually as their base share of the Sky Sports television deal. Additionally, clubs earn per-match fees ranging roughly from £500,000 to £1.5 million depending on how often their matches are televised, and international TV rights contribute another £1 to £2 million per club. They also receive around £5 million in Premier League solidarity payments annually. Combining these streams, the typical Championship club can expect between roughly £9.5 million to £12.5 million in total income from TV rights and related distributions in the 2024-25 season.
Regarding ITV, beginning January 2025, ITV has agreed to a sublicensing arrangement with Sky Sports, allowing ITV to broadcast select Championship matches and Carabao Cup fixtures free-to-air. This deal, reportedly worth around £15 million in total, includes ITV simulcasting about 10 Championship matches each full season plus a handful of matches during the 2024-25 season’s second half. As this is a sublicense from Sky, the money ITV pays ultimately flows through the league’s distribution scheme to the clubs. While ITV’s direct share per club is smaller compared to Sky’s dominant deal, it increases the accessibility of EFL matches to a wider audience without subscription and adds to the overall TV revenue supporting Championship clubs.

    1. This is no longer a problem because it seems to be on Charlton TV

    2. It's not to do with a VPN, I would watch Bein Sports in a pub as I don't subscribe myself.

    3. With regards to Now TV, if I want to buy a pass I use an excellent VPN that costs me 10 pounds for a month which then allows me to use a now TV stick. This isn't the issue, it's that Now TV don't have our match in their listings.

It's showing as plain as day unless I'm going mad, if you click on EFL, which is English Football League.

Charlton TV streams all games, however the bloody EFL geo-block it in countries with "rights partners" and Bein in France is one of those partners. However the partners don't always exercise their right, i.e they dont show a game. But we find that the EFL is too lazy to check whether they are showing the game or not, and geo-block it anyway.

But if I understand what others are saying, it is not a main Sky game, and I  think that the international deal only offers the main Sky game. The play-off games which caused all the problems were all main (i.e Sky Sports channel) games. I am not entirely sure that I have this (the definition of a main Sky game) right though. If I am right,  I should be able to watch here in Czechia without a VPN, however there is, in prinicipal, a rights partner here, and so I need to be on my toes and read to switch on the VPN and head to Germany, where there is no EFL deal in place.

It’s says ’streaming’ but not ’stream live’
  • Where does one watch a full replay of a Charlton championship match?
Somewhat ironically for this Saturday on Now TV, by the looks of it: 'Streaming until 11 Aug 2025’
(as opposed to the Sky Sports Football match (Southampton  v Wrexham) which reads ’Stream live Saturday 9 Aug from 12:00pm’
