  • Dangerous Animals 8/10

Watched it yesterday, loved it. Its about a properly mental guy who likes feeding people to sharks played by Jai Courtney and he steals the show. It has everything you want a film like this to have. Some toe curling gore one scene in particular where one of the victims tries to release themselves from handcuffs is pretty memorable.

Visually it looks really good too. There is a lot of silliness and I'm all there for it
  • Watched Piece By Piece last week. Surprisingly good. Thought at first it was a bit odd to watch a documentary about Pharrell Williams...told through Lego.

  • Happy Gilmore 2 - Netflix
    7/10

I know some people don't really get it, or just don't like it , i did. I enjoyed it, don't expect too much and just enjoy it i would say, it will get its haters but it's really not as bad as people make out, always the problem with having a sequel, i am glad they made it. Probably not as funny but the story line was good and got love Adam Sandlier and most of the cast

Found it quite poor myself. But as you suggest each to their own.

    Harmless fun however.

The cameos from the professional golfers all a bit stiff as you’d expect but no doubt they had fun being involved.
  • Watched a few entertaining but ultimately quite rubbish spy/assasin/action films recently

Heads of State - US president and UK prime minister (idris elba) ham it up as action heroes. Quite amusing

Deep Cover - three improv actors go undercover

strangely both films feature Paddy Carradine.

Killer's Game - Dave Bautista gets in on the action as an assassin who takes out a hit on himself. Very over the top mindless fun.

All available on Amazon Prime for free.

Also watched Tin Soldier, less fun and flashback heavy.
  • For any fans of Tim Robinson/I Think You Should Leave, Friendship is a good watch as long as you like your comedies really weird (I do!)

Despite how funny Friendship was I haven't laughed as hard in the cinema in a long time as I did during 28 Years Later. Trying to avoid spoilers but there's a bit that's supposed to be an emotional climax but it's delivered in such a ridiculous way that I absolutely pissed myself laughing. I think there should be a law where Alex Garland isn't allowed a pen or a Microsoft Word subscription
  • Happy Gilmore 2

    9/10

I loved the first film, I love Adam Sandler films to be fair, the more stupid the better. Also like his serious stuff too, a talented man for the screen.

You could write what I know about golf on the back of a stamp but I knew who some of the cameos were and definitely knew John Daly who stole every scene he was in along with Shooter.

It was everything a sequel should be, like top gun 2. Enough nostalgia and call backs but never too many, loads of laughs, a constant stream of giggles and a few real belly laughs.

Was going to watch Happy Gilmore 2 but thought I'd watch Happy Gilmore first. Was shocked at how bad it was.

Caddyshack remains my favourite - Rodney Dangerfield has perfect comic timing.
  • Sandler cringes me out on an astronomical scale. Will be avoiding at all costs.

  • I like Sandler. I think I'm the only person on planet earth who liked Click
  • One of the great mysteries of the human race is how Adam Sandler is one of best paid actors in the world
  • Sandler must be one of THE most Marmite actors in the world.
  • One of the great mysteries of the human race is how Adam Sandler is one of best paid actors in the world
Because he's also a director, producer and comedian. He's not just an actor.
  • Horses for courses, I love Mike Myers too and the Austin Powers films were works of art in my eyes. I don't think I managed to make it through a scene with Goldmember or Dr Evil in when I wasn't low level giggling at least

I don't get the fuss with a few directors, I love some of the stuff Quentin Tarantino has done, other stuff I think is utterly shite and pure masturbation for film students

He's also a pretty good actor at his best. Really enjoyed him in Punchdrunk Love and Uncut Gems especially.

As a former film student I'll have you know I regularly masturbate over Austin Powers.
  • Watched the new Tim Key film a couple of nights ago. Really enjoyed it. The Ballad of Wallis Island.
  • Bring her back
One for those who like their horror films on the gory side, the story is a bit ridiculous and all the stereotypes are there but Sally Hawkins as the foster mum carries the lead well, her cheeky sweet smile just seems to make her more terrifying!

He can undoubtedly act but he does make some dreadful films.

  • I didn’t read anything into Uncut Gems when it was released, then Sandler was screaming for the opening 15 minutes so turned it off. Actually hurt my ears.

I hate it too . I can’t think of anything that Sandler has done that I’d ever watch again .

I can’t recommend this film enough, my favourite film of the year so far.
  • Finally watched 28 years later and was very disappointed. As a big fan of the first film, I also enjoyed the second but this one I struggled with. I may be being a little pedantic but it annoyed me the second one ended with the virus spreading to Europe, setting it up for the third film just to say in a line of text at the start that Europe repelled the virus. That was just one of many inconsistencies with the first two films that I won’t go into too much detail in.
I also felt the bizarre Jimmy Saville references were a bit classless.
Overall a very disappointing 3/10 for me

He's been so typecast in truly awful films but Sandler could've won an Oscar for Uncut Gems, I genuinely rate his performance in it that highly.

Feel the same, bar 50 First Dates - will tolerate Sandler for this film’s humour, story and Drew Barrymore.

Yeah his worst by far, i would say i like some of his cheesy stuff like 50 first dates, Billy Maddison, a lot of them i like , but not all
  • Sandler has a bachelor's degree in acting from a respected Uni. He just realised how lucrative his niche is and he went for it! For much of his Netflix fare he insists they shoot in a tropical location and he invites his pals along, while getting paid tens of millions. Can't knock that! Especially when so many people like what he does.

I haven't seen one of his comedies since Click, and I quite liked it. I just didn't like that he wouldn't accept being the butt of any jokes. He always had to come out on top. The likes of Chevy Chase and Steve Martin were always comfortable with being the fool, I just got the impression Sandler wouldn't have that.

    I'd heard that as well

I can't remember where I heard it but it has been confirmed by his filmography and a few different places he accepts he has a niche, a lucrative one and would agree with a studio to make a Billy Maddison, Grown ups, Little Nicky on the proviso he could make something serious on the back of it

    Good for him
