Don't get the 'Where are Charlton getting all their money from?' Chunter
It's well documented the wealth of our owners. People ,podcasts and general commentators make sweeping statements about what a clubs budget is. But how can they really ever know?
Many clubs these days have people of wealth at the top of their trees. Whether they are willing to part with it is an answer only they can know.

It's why I think making assumptions about how much of it they are willing to spend is a bit silly.
People still think we are just a poorly run basket case of an over sized Third Division club.
That perception will have to change once they realise we're, erm ..... massive   :)

Posting without wading through the Dowie stuff so may have been mentioned, but Bolton are being linked with 'making enquiries' about Ahadme:

Leaburn [ if he stays fit] and Kelman could be a brilliant partnership, but we have great back up now  too.

Lets get behind NJ and the team

Not only are we not relying on loans, the contract lengths are mostly 3 & 4 years....which means we aren't having to churn 7 or 8 players every season like we have been doing for the past half a dozen seasons.
That’s the key - stability. Even if we bring in a couple of high quality loans from the premiership, we will not rely on them.

I think we will start with three up top, oloafe and Kelman wide of Leaburn, with Edwards and Apter as wingbacks and Coventry with docherty/Rankin-Costello in CM. Looks pretty potent and plenty of options off the bench with Godden, TC and Carey.

Very excited to see how the team plays and gels.

Reckon he'll do well at Bolton
Ahadme would get 30 goals in that Bolton side. Beats me why they haven’t wrapped the deal up already before another team jumps in ahead of them.

Also, if I had to take a really wild guess, it wouldn’t surprise me if someone were to say Nathan had said to Johnnie Jackson the other night he would let him go to Wimbledon. When you zoom in on Johnnie the expression on his face certainly looks like he was giving what must have been an out of left-field comment by Nathan some thought and they probably don’t come more left-field than that given what we had paid for him and what his wages must be.

Based on last season, Kelman seems to be one of those forwards who is in the right place at the right time. Watched all the goals, a few with his head too.
Just needs to work on those knee slides, otherwise the treatment room will be working overtime.

    Kelman/Leasburn/Godden, happy days.

Why are we chatting about negative crap? We have gone through so many awful seasons that I’m just oozing positivity right now. Great times ahead, my prediction is still bottom half, but staying up is key this time around.

Might have Knibbs to add into the equation by that point or possibly Donley although that’s later into the window I would think.

Forgetting about Taylor could he still have a future when fit .. was not a bad player ? think I would rather have him in the squad then Anderson ?
Bold of you to post this without running it past even one functioning thought.

The last post on that thread says Charlton.

    Probably end up being Portsmouth.
Are Preaton under the radar for a change?!

We have bought some good ingredients and we have a very good cook.

But the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

The team has to gel and we may get off to a sticky start.

I just hope fans give Jones and the team time and patience if we don't start well.

We will be up against better sides than last season and will be tested every week.

Bought my season ticket and I'll be there.

Looking forward to getting to know a lot of new players and seeing how last seasons group make the step up.

I think it will be an exciting but tough season.
You've gone all Masterchef on us Henry and we know how that's been going lately.

By Jones’ own admission, his teams can be a bit slow to start sometimes as they get up to speed on how he wants to play. Helpful it’s not Jones’ first season here and some of the new boys have played for him before but nonetheless there’s going to be an adjustment period for a lot of the new boys, plus getting it all to gel, as you say.

Very important for expectations to be realistic and for fans stay patient and behind the team and manager - togetherness is another huge part of the Nathan Jones recipe for success.

Only well documented by us, i wouldn't say it's widely known at all, hence why there's a lot of talk about where we're suddenly getting our money from. It's not like we blew league one away with big spending, or even really showed our hand at what sort of money we had.

I suspect if you asked the average football fan who our owner(s) are, most wouldn't have a clue as they're not headline grabbing like Birmingham and Wrexham have been.

Most Charlton fans (myself included) are surprised at how much we've spent, so it's not really a shock that other clubs fans are too.

3.5m, up to 5 with add ons is literally bonkers.
Makes him our most expensive signing in history if add-ons are hit I think?
With adds on Darren Bent’s transfer fee was £5.175M
Jeffers was £12.5m paid up front
    It was £2.5m
Of which we only ended up paying £0.5M

Like many have said we have 46 massive games coming up and survival is key.

Nobody wants a repeat of a great Wembley win in 2019 followed by players refusing to play and then being relegated on the last day by one point thanks to Brentford.

Having followed this amazing bonkers club this transfer window is by far and away the best I've ever seen.

If we survive this first season back then Nathan will be deserving of a statue in his honour.

We have to trust him more than ever like the Board have especially if we hit some stormy waters because I don't think any fan on the planet saw a promotion winning team after that Crawley game so we have to do our bit.

Anymore players coming in now are just further cherries on the cake but we will get injuries so a big squad is definitely required.

What a time to be a supporter.... We don't get many periods like this in a lifetime so lets enjoy it.

Never know we might even buy the ground back from Deushatalet.... Although thats probably going a bit too far.

It's very surreal to see people speak about us like this:

    https://x.com/mjwmacca/status/1949188225614176462?t=2Qrfz0JyhrK02PU1sp7kIA&s=19

"Say this with alot of teams. But where are charlton getting the money from. -
    £2mill for Rob Apter
    £1.4mill for Tanto Olaofe
    £1.1mill for Thomas kaminski
    £700k for Joe Costello
    £3.5mill for Charlie Kelman
    £1.8mill for Harvey knibbs

    £10.5mill in total"

I don’t do Twitter any more.  Could you just go back and let him know that we bet our budget on Charlton beating Pompey, as usual, and the bookies decided to pay out early 👍🏻😉

I would like us to sign Joe Bennett if it isn't too expensive. I was impressed with him yesterday and he certainly has the experience we need.

In squad terms a second LWB is a useful but not essential addition. He would be known to Nathan having played at Brighton , so I would hope he would be a good influence in the dressing room.

I definitely think he would improve the squad.

To me, we still feel a bit light at wing backs on both sides. Small was both first choice on the right and backup on the left, plus our back up on the right (Watson) also left this summer.

I’m confident Edwards is going to handle to step up but aside from him we have Apter who is very attacking and may not play wing back, Bell who was described by Jones himself as a left centre back, Ramsay who didn’t shine in that role last season in the way he did on the right of a back three, JRC who I’m pretty sure is going to be part of our first choice centre midfield, and then youngsters like Asimwe and Fullah who have bags of promise but probably aren’t quite ready yet. Unless I’m forgetting someone, I think we could definitely do with at least one other senior player who can play as a more conventional wing back with defensive responsibility. We have a few makeshift options but a lengthy injury to, say, Edwards could expose us a bit.
