I am a keen Golfer but I often think the routine of 18 hole 4 round golf can be a bit boring for the fan and the participants alike.

Why not team tournaments/matchplay/ scrambles etc on the main tour.Golf in this country does have a participation issue and I think it could do better

Oh and bring back a round with Alliss..obviously not him but someone else .Wayne Riley for instance
Would love to see your stats to back up golf having a participation problem in this country? I actually think you'll find that golf participation in this country is at pretty much an all time high.
You are right and I am wrong I stand corrected it seems that post covid there has been an upturn..whilst this is the wrong thread its a shame that so many local courses aren't around to cater for it eg Beckenham ,broke hill, natts valley, Austin Lodge etc
Still plenty of golf courses around & most are half empty during the week.

I often drive past Holtye golf course and you can see 3 holes from the road. Never seen anyone on it and that's between the hours of 12 & 4pm.

I don’t catch much women’s golf….but Lottie Woad…..seems like everyone else may as well give up.
    Incredible few weeks for her.

Liv golf this weekend. Last year was really good and shows the open that maybe there’s a need for change with shotgun starts with play done in 4 hours. Next years open only an hour away next year for me but £300 more expensive than Liv golf this weekend. I appreciate it’s the history etc but the experience to see some of the best at the price is really good! Anyone potentially 50/50 about going then I recommend you do!
I don’t doubt that LIV is a good spectator experience, in a very different way, but no thank you to The Open becoming a shotgun start. Also not sure where you are getting £300 more expensive from. LIV Golf at JCB is £42 a ticket, The Open at Portrush was £120.

So how come I’ve paid £86 for 3 days but for Birkdale next year it’s £130 for one day? Why don’t you want it to be a shotgun start when you’ve not experienced it? Golf needs to modernise itself. Playing from 07:30-2100 even after the cut isn’t going to get younger fans involved in the sport. Maybe not shotgun starts in the open but shot clocks need to be involved going forward. Anyway my post was to say that if you’ve never gone and were on the fence about going and like golf then I’d recommend you go, even the course itself is a joy to walk round.

That isn't the case though after the cut play starts later and finishes earlier.

Matti Schmid started his round like this today.

    So not only did he score a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 in his first 6 holes…

In doing so he also recorded an eagle, a birdie, a par, a bogey, a double and a triple.

Oh Tommy! It really has become such a mental block for him. Time for a "sxxx or bust" drive and birdie at the last.

Sad if Tommy blows this, but if so let's hope Rose wins it.

Poor Tommy. He's become a bit like a horse that needs blinkers and wins by 10 lengths without actually knowing he's been in a race. I'm sure once he does win a PGA tournament  he'll do it a good few times more.

Rose being in the play off, let alone potentially winning this, at the age of 45 and coming so close in the Masters is a testament to the consistency of his swing over the course of the last 25 years. It's much the same with Scott.

Really fancied Rosey to sink his putt,it was identical to the one he missed in the regulation 18,just hit it too well

Great putt from Spaun to be fair,Rosey needs this....

That was incredible. Spaun had the read from his two previous attempts but even so it was an incredible putt under that pressure and then Rose was absolutely fearless in his response.

Moved the pin right where Spaun had landed the last 3 times.

    Well in Rosey.

Rose birdied six of his last eight holes he played under that pressure. Thoroughly deserved.

Fleetwood has taken over the mantle from "cant putt" Westwood. Good professional players but just dont have what's needed when the time comes.
As I posted earlier. Fleetwood's propensity to not be able to hole out when under pressure strikes again. I also agree his change of club on the fairway on the 18th did him no favours. I believe he 3-putted at least 3 times today.
Once again Fleetwood crumbles under pressure. Maybe like Tin Cup he needs to do something radical. Maybe change his ball so it doesn't have all his markings on it. Or cut his hair. Or take up darts.

Yes….for nine holes. Been playing golf on and off since I was 14, had my first lesson last week at the age of 59. Playing much better lol.

Me  ???  Yes, many times. Last time I played (about 10 years ago) my aim was to break 90
My official handicap at that time was 19 so I tried to play every course to that.....or below. Hard when my handicap was  based on a 9 hole (Barnehurst) with very short par 4's. Not the same playing Walton Heath or Wentworth  !

Robert MacIntyre's finish last night in the BMW was a joy to behold watching it live - final six holes all birdies. Finished 8 under on a course that is anything but easy and where only 14 players are under par.

And the length of some of them.....esp on 13 & 14.

I switched channels when they went off for rain, with McIlroy on level & Scheffler on  -1. Turned back a few hours later to see that they had finished their round....Rory still level but Scheffler now at -4. Rory needs to buck up his ideas !!

    Was watching live.
Wish he would have celebrated the birdies a bit more

those two monster putts were amazing

He actually birdied the first hole of his second round so 7 birdies on the bounce. He's currently 10 under and 5 clear of the field.

MacInytre finished 14 under and is 5 shots clear of second placed Scheffler - he not only had the best first round score (his best on the PGA tour) but had the joint best second round score. He's also had 16 birdies in his 36 holes in a field where more than half are level par or worse.
