The geezer who said Kelman is slow yesterday only has to look at the 5 min clip on our YouTube from the end of the Orient game. He beats Ramsay in a one on one to the ball after it’s played over the top. If that’s your idea of slow….10

Thanks for sharing @Goddenole. Will look forward to your posts in the future!

Tanto - 1.5 m
Kaminski - 900k
JRC - 750k
Burke - 300k
Apter - 2.5 m
Around* 9 million spent on transfer fees so far, if rumoured prices are to be believed.
It's ridiculous and I don't think anyone saw it coming tbh. It goes beyond what Pompey and Oxford spent now I think, and it's almost as much as Derby, except Derby sold Cashin for a big fee. We are certainly giving ourselves a fighting chance.
So either we are doing the same as Derby and selling an asset to cover for all this, or, the owners have decided they hated league 1 as much as us, don't want to chance us seeing it again and are taking a bit of a financial gamble.5 -

Go on Charlton, go and pinch Christian Eriksen off of Wrexham too.
Sorry, just woken up.8 -

He's also saying on the other forum we are in the race with Portsmouth for knibbs and have offered more money for him but slightly lower wages but not far off.9

That's some tekkers and self-belief to score from that distance.2 - Sponsored links:

Contract run out or did our mods (finally) put their hand in their pocket.Remains to be seen how he’ll play with our own ITKs.21 -
I’m not especially shocked by the spending. It is, undoubtedly, a big step change from what we’ve become used to, but it’s still relatively modest by Championship standards and a reflection of the gap between our squad and a competitive Championship level squad. It’s probably a bit more in terms of fees than I thought but voices from inside the club, including NJ, did say we’d be giving it a go so I certainly wasn’t expecting a Roland style ambitionless skimp and save type window either. It’s not like we’ve been going out and paying the kinds of fees and wages required to get other Championship teams’ best players. If you want a solid championship player then a million plus is not exorbitant.
The signings we’ve made are picking up some if the better ones from the division below or ones out of favour in the Championship and with a bit of a point to prove. That’s a bit of perspective to keep in mind and, even with what we’ve been doing in the transfer market, important to remember that just staying up will be a great achievement. However, what I really like and am encouraged by is these have been exactly the sort of signings that Curbs used to make and were the foundation of a very successful decade or so for us.
I’m tempering my excitement a little, but it’s been a hugely encouraging summer so far.16 -
Jury's out for me on Kelman. It took him a good few seasons to find any kind of goalscoring form in League One including looking pretty powder puff up front while on loan at Gillingham. Who's to say the same won't happen in the Championship?2

Such an exciting signing and Charlton now thinking about succession planning is something I never thought I’d see again!3 -

Safe to say, I am a bit excited about the Charlie Kelman talk

Always better to have a striker on the up who scored plenty last season than someone with a reputation who was prolific but for one reason or another hasn't done it for 12-18 months or so.2 -

Is it Harvey Knibbs we're rumoured to be in for?0
-
Top scorer in L1 but I don't really know anything else about Kelman. Still excited. Well done the owners for supporting Jones.

It's been an interesting window, signing players with experience or potential.
But like Curbs and Chris Powell before him, NJ is all about signing players with the right character to fit in with his team ethos.
Remember, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts"3 -
RC confirms Joe Bennett is on trial and with the squad today.

The alternatives would all be gambles too.
A young PL striker on loan has even less experience and their clubs expect game time.
Proven Championship players are too expensive.
Older strikers could be on the way down, still demand big wages and a key part of our game is high energy, a lot of pressing and winning second balls.
Strikers from abroad might take time to settle or not settle at all.
Kelman is about as good as we could get in terms of being proven in the league below. Kone was attracting even bigger offers than the rumoured £3m or so we’re paying for Kelman.
I’m excited about this one even though there’s no guarantee he makes the step up. I think it’s worth the risk. One more season like last year and he’d be getting bigger offers above our budget.4 -
No Ramsey in the Cambridge squad…0

I think he'll likely at least take a year to get ready at this level if he reaches his full potential, but still seems the perfect signing to make now whilst we have Godden at a level and can bed him in. We aren't going to be able to sign a sure thing at this level.0 -
